  1. If nothing else, dog owners can stop their pet being desexed too young, and get a letter to waive the desexing requirement until the dog matures and/or another suitable age. Lol wouldn't it be funny if there was a council rule that said no dog will be registered or released unless it has its tail docked - oops how cruel of me!!! As far as I know desexing a dog too young won't kill it. And if it is under 12 weeks old it would be released unregistered anyway. Most shelters do inmature desexing so the council wouldn't accept a letter from a vet stating that the dog needs to mature first. There has to be a life threatening reason. Edited for spelling
  2. No you can not keep an entire dog that is not registered with VicDogs and register it will the council. They will not accept the registration without a desxing certificate supplied. There is pretty much no such thing as a full price council registration anymore as all animals are required to be microchipped and desexed which means all reg is now reduced.
  3. It wouldn't matter if the vet did write a letter unless his letter was of a valid medical nature. Just writting a letter because the owner doesn't want the animal desexed is not enough. There must be a reason the animal can not under go the surgery such as age, heart murmur etc. Something that means the animal is high risk for desexing. In the case of bitches they arent just opened up. You sign a vet consent form allowing the surgery to go ahead. If you know your bitch is already done you obvioulsy won't sign it. Instead you will supply a certificate of desexing or a letter from the vet who did it.
  4. I've bolded the above part for reference-dogs are NEVER desed without the owner signing a consent form to have it done. All legal paperwork is done before anything procceds and if you dog is registered with the canine council and you can prove it there is no problem at all. Said dog goes home with all bits where they should be and nothing more than a rego tag.
  5. Surely it is only a regulation, I don't think state governments can enact that type of law. As far as I am aware, it is not legal I suppose, as with the councils seizing dogs suspected of being put bulls which aren't, the council will probably need a wake up call in court, to the tune of a few hundred grand for costs etc. when someone calls them on it and they lose. Is it only the unregistered dogs the council neuters? If the dog is entire and registered, what happens if it is roaming and goes to the pound? Yeah only dogs requiring first time registration are required to be desexed. If you own an entire dog that has always been registered the laws don't apply to you. Then you just pay a release fee and get your dog back. It basically means all puppies that are not from registered breeders in frankston council require microchipping and desexing before the council will register them. Obviously some people choose to simply not register to avoid doing this however if the dog is impounded and over 12 weeks old it must be registered before release. This is where people are made to desex their pet before they can have it back. There are plenty out there however who just surrender the animal because "it's cheaper to get a new one" or because they refuse to own a desexed animal. I don't particularly agree with the law as my partner and I own sporting dogs and working bred border collies(which even if registered with the working dog association are not exempt) however I thought most people on DOL would agree with it in essence at least. What this law basically means is that the only way to own and entire animal is to either not register it or buy one from a registered breeder. All dogs from pet stores, BYB's etc require desexing now.
  6. It's been in for ages. Around July 08 for frankston and Jan 09 for kingston from memory. These are 2 major councils over this way. Where they go others follow suit. Cardinia and bayside councils both have mandatory desexing of cats also.
  7. Unless the dog or cat is registered with the appropriate governing body and the owner as well. For example if you own a dog registered with the VCA/Vic Dogs and you are a member also the animal doesn't need desexing, even if it is on limited register. The only other exemptions are to do with age and health I think. If you dog was currently registered with the council before impoundment then it's not an issue. It was passed through state goverment so as far as I'm aware it is legal. Kingston council do it also. Most people don't like the law but they always seem to be the ones who were going to breed Fluffy/Tyson/Rocky to make heaps of money out of it all. Haven't seen it lowering the number of impounded dogs yet but it sure has uped the amount of abuse the pound staff cope on a daily basis.
  8. This is Clover's boy Elvis, this pic just breaks your heart he's so damn pathetic.
  9. Clover kindly gave me a lump of coal for xmas and I took it upson myself to create a wee little friend for us, introducing Cole!!!! Isn't he adorable ? Cole's first day at school, off on the bus like a big boy Waving him away proudly In his big boy school chair A trip to the playground which then resulted in a trip to the emergency room Bloody children!!
  10. Thats amazing, i have never met another Menace and for your girl to be the same cross as well . I would love to see pics of her :p. Me too!!! Bundy would love to think he could get all the girls, he seems to woo most of the human ones for sure. I'd love to see pics of you girl. I have never met another Menace.
  11. Titan is so gorgeous He and my boy Bundy could almost be brothers. What a shame we are in different states, they could have met up.
  12. Thanks guys, they will all get fat heads with all these compliments!! I'm looking for an elf outfit for Bundy so keep tuned for some pics of his torment!!
  13. Thanks:) I think he is something special myself.
  14. Menace again. Getting so old and gray now. It's sad to watch his legs go. He can barley stand up yet still manages to walk around really well. After rolling around like a fool. Coooooooote. Bundy and Leroy having some inside time alone. And yes Bundy really is wearing a pink shirt. It's border collie size which is why he looks like he is wearing a muscle top!! Anyone know where I can get some cool BIG dog t-shirts?? Bloody sooky LA LA What ya doing in the kitchen Aunty Rhi AKA Clover.
  15. About as close as my boys get to stayiing!!! Kissing boys, love each other so much but Bundys bestest friend in the whole wide world is out JRT Leroy :D Bundy and Bear staying. Note Cliffy is long gone. Attention span of a gnat that one I love this dog. He is the beggining of everything for me. He was my first dog and after him I specifically went out and bought Bear(they are the same cross). If not for Bear doing flyball I would have never met my OH and best friend, Clover, and be as happy as I am. I have alot to thank Menace for. Bear in B&W. I like that I can do this with the camera. Isn't he gorgeous? Impressive does not even begin to describe how Menace was in his prime. 50kg of lean muscle and agility, he stood taller than me on his hind legs and turned heads everywhere he went. He still does really. And again.
  16. Just a few photos that I got at the park the other day. OH had taken the other four dogs for a walk so I took my 4 big guys out and gave them a run. I was mostly trying to get some photos of Menace, my old man. I took a few in black and white to try to hide his gray a little big and I think some have come out quite distingusied. I'm by no means a photograper, my friend tells me it's sacriledge to take photos on auto settings all the time when I have a camera as good as mine but I have no idea what all the symbols mean!!!! Flying Bundy man, 23 months Pretty boy and flyball star Bear, almost 8 years. Serious Bundy. He is always watching out for us. Till he see's a possum, then all bets are off :D My BRD of no particular breed Clifford, almost 4 years Can you get any closer Bundy???? My beautiful old man Menace. He is around 12.5 years old, rottweiler x gsd. He is a rescue and I have had him for 9 years this year. His back end is slowly going but he is a magnificent old man who likes nothing better than his food and a cuddle.
  17. BRD means big red dog cos as you can see Cliffy is no particulr breed at all. He is very very happy and it is pretty rare that his legs slow him up at all. I hope the same for you pup. Keeps us updated how you go after the specialist. Good luck and fingers crossed for you
  18. My BRD Clifford has OCD in both hocks. He had surgery at 6 months old when he went totally lame on his right hind leg and partly lame on his left. He had both hocks operated on and then had to be crated for 6 weeks. Not fun with a 6 month old puppy as i bet you know :D After that we did physio with his legs to improve the mobility in his hocks and I took him to Dogs in Motion swimming pool to strengthen his hind legs and we started giving him short on leash walks. He also had a course of carthrophen every week for 4 weeks and then every 3 months for around a year. Because of the severity of his OCD the vet said that he would be lucky to still have much mobility at around 4 years old because of the degree of arthritic change that may occur by then. He will be 4 in january and is an absolute tank He runs and runs and is a crazy bugger. He keeps up with all the other dogs no issue except he occasionally hops on his leg now and then. Normally he mostly hops if he is walking on lead so I don't tend to walk him on leash very often. The hard foot paths arent the best thing for dogs with OCD in their hocks because they have no real fluid between their joints so it is basically bone banging on bone. I prefer to let him run off leash so that he can regulate how much he wants to move around rather than forcing him to walk for too long on leash. We used to walk the dogs around a 4km circuit at an offleash park and afterwards he would be fine however if he was walked 4km on concrete he wouldnt be able to walk the next day. I don't do anything to manage his OCD except to give him a pain pill if he needs one. He's probably had about 5 all year if that. He is due for some more cartrophen so I will get that done soon. The vet advises glucosamine powder and fish oil tablets but I do admit I have been slack on that lately. He is fed a raw diet and the most important thing that helps him along IMO is that I keep him lean. As is very very lean, greyhound lean. Much less stress on his joints that way. I used Chris Boneo at keysborough vet clinic for his surgery and I think he is an exceptional vet. I have attached a couple of pics of Cliffy so that you can see what I mean about keeping him lean and also just how straight his back legs are :D He is slightly leaner in these pics then he is now but you'll get the idea. Hope that helps :D
  19. Nina, so sorry still for the passing of Molly. She was a beautiful old girl who adored you and enjoyed her life to the fullest, even if the fullest did involve paddle pop sticks and trips to the emergency vets. I feel blessed to have known her and enjoy her company. Hugs to you for being so brave as to do the right thing when the time came. Rest easy and free Molly, restored to youth and health at the bridge
  20. There is no way it's your fault, she is an old dog and they have their ups and downs all the time. At least you got her to the vet quickly.
  21. Nina I'm so sorry to hear of Molly She is a lovely old girl so enjoy every moment with her that you possibly can regardless of the outcome. I am praying and have everything crossed that she may have just picked up a slight infection, after all with our job it is highly possible. Many many hugs to you and Molly :D Come and keep sharing with the dol community, many members have been through the same thing and there is a wealth of help, support and information on these pages.
  22. He has the potential to move pretty bloody fast if he puts his mind to it. He is much faster than bear on the straight so I hope he gets motivated and does well. Even if he plods I'll be happy he is doing it. He misses you Shoey Are you doing Yarram?
  23. Thanks guys, the photos came out really well. I'm so happy that Bundy is picking it all up quickly. Bear,my flyball dog, is a rotty x GSD who is 8 in march and although he is running exceptionally well for he age and breed(under 5 seconds) it will be lovely to have another dog to run as well. I'm enjoying training him up to run, it's nice to run a big boofa who is a little different from all the working dogs out there doing flyball.
  24. Thanks I have to give credit to Clover for nearly all of the pictures. Boxloader and photo taker for the most part.
  25. And a few more pics Bundy man waiting for his recall. Flying bundy! I did good huh? Handsome man Superman
