  1. He has been vomiting again last night Taking him back to the vet for the day. Who would have thought puppies could cause so much worry? Seems a bit weird that he was acting better - eating and drinking again, but I am back to square one this morning.....
  2. Diesel is a mini schnauzer. I am not worried about him gulping his food - he is a picky eater normally anyway. Not fussy, just eats a small amount then comes back a bit later and eats a little more. I used to be worried he wasn't eating enough, but he has been putting on weight and is normally healthy and energetic. Just got him home (so relieved!). And he is back to the 'eating my pant legs' game, so he must be feeling better. He still looks a bit sorry for himself. He is on antibiotics (had an injection today, tablets starting tomorrow). I am supposed to only give him small soft meals and his throat may be irritated from the vomiting. I have been such a worried mum today..... Is this is what it is like with real kids????
  3. He is 13 weeks old. I usually only give him chicken necks (always raw of course!). Last nights bone was a lamb shank cut in half - that is what the vet recommended me to give him! He has had lamb bones before - doesn't eat much meat off them - just loves to have a bit of a chew and carry it around the house until it smells so bad I throw it out! I have just rung the vet to find out how he is going - they said it is just a bit of gastro. He must have picked up a tummy bug from somewhere. He is looking a bit more lively now and has started eating. :D I can take him home later this afternoon!
  4. My pup was fine last night - his usual energetic, chewy self. I had to put him to bed in the laundry around 7pm because I had a meeting. Left him with a meaty bone to chew and some dry biscuits. Got up this morning to find that he had vomited over night. He has no energy and refuses to eat or drink. Even when I tried to give him a dried liver treat (which he normally loves) he started to whine. When I pick him up around his middle, he starts to growl, but all he wants to do is sit on my lap. I have taken him to the vet this morning - they are keeping him in for observation today. They think it is probably just something he ate...... I hope so! I am really worried about him (he is my little fur baby!!) Have others out there had similar experiences? I would just like some reassurance that this is a normal puppy occurance!
  5. Can you get a doggy door put in so then she can come in and out as she pleases without having to disturb you?
  6. Thanks everyone for your responses. I went to the vet today for his 2nd jab. Spoke to the vet about the situation. He said although he couldn't recommend it until after the 3rd vacc, he said that going to the beach or short street walks should be ok. Just to make sure to avoid other dogs unless they are vaccinated and to not let him sniff at one place too long. Think I will give it a few days for the vaccination to take effect, then try some short walks around the streets.
  7. Just wondering if I could get some advice on when it is safe to start taking my pup for walks? ;) I have read in a few places that it is ok after the 2nd vaccination, but the vet nurse at puppy pre-school said it is safer to wait until the 3rd vaccination at 16 weeks. My puppy is very energetic! I have a small yard and I am at work all day , so really want to be able to take him out for a bit of exercise. Just want to find out when people have been starting to take their pups for a walk..... Thanks
  8. Perhaps you could train your sister while you are training the dogs?? The vet gave me frontline for my 7 week old pup - he didn't have fleas, but had some tapeworm. These are carried by fleas so thought it was best to treat for both. She said that the frontline one that you put on their skin would also kill fleas and eggs in their surroundings (bed etc...). Good luck!
  9. It is so confusing! Some internet sites say to start training them to walk on the leash and socialize them from an early age, and others say not to take them out of your house until after the 2nd vacc. I rang a vet to ask as I live in a unit, so don't have a big yard which makes it hard to use up my pups energy. The vet said the beach (near the water) was ok to walk a puppy as long as I made sure he doesn't sniff any dogs that aren't vaccinated. But she didn't say anything about what distance a puppy should be able to walk. Even when my puppy is 12 weeks, what distance should I be walking him for?
  10. Does this apply to small dogs as well? I have a 9 week old mini schnauzer with lots of energy, so I have been taking him for long walks on the beach. He seems to cope ok, but I don't want to damage him!
