  1. Someone comes onto a dog forum because they are feeling worried/a bit guilty about elective surgery and they get made fun of. Nice.

DOL pack mentality from the usual suspects. Nothing new really.

Oh dear my mistake. I forgot that you are not allowed to indulge in humour on this forum anymore, and if you dare to have a joke with someone else in the thread, the DOL police come after you and call you a pack :welcome: Naughty Gareth

  2. To the op, please don't feel guilty, I'm sure your pup won't hold any grudges, & will recover quite quickly.

What Bailey's Mum said. I mean really...he's not going to spend the rest of his life thinking you were a horrible man hater who sliced his foreskin off. He'll be fine. He'll be back to the bounce around puppy in no time.

Now Raz, let's not be too hasty. I mean there must be a reason that puppy prozac was invented. Perhaps it was to help dogs cope with the loss of their sexual identity

  3. To be honest, I would have more trouble getting a female dog done as I know how strong the need to mother was in me when I was wanting babies and I'd feel terribly guilty taking away any living creatures ability to fullfill those maternal urges.

Not all bitches are maternal, and honestly, that ones that are do not have maternal urges till the pups pop out, so how can they know what they are missing out on?

Perhaps read the whole paragraph? I acknowledged that it is not logical - it is purely emotional.

Dogs do not have human emotions.

  5. Thank you very much for the replies. It seems that it was just an ear infection/issue because now he is fine after I cleaned his ears last night with those ear cleaner drops. BUT what is interesting to me is treatment route which was suggested by Mrs. Vet, costing $2800, she even didn't check my dog ears so what I can say! She could simply see we are panic so ...

Anyway, world is full of different people, what we can do.

You can go back to that clinic and ask to see the boss. If the boss was the one you saw originally, ask to see a different vet and explain that the first vet quoted you $2800 without looking down your dog's ears and without giving you a possible diagnosis.

  6. My oath I'm saying it. :D Why should you or I be told where we can show our dogs and not receive challenges.

I call it discrimination. If you want to go to a National with your dog, good on you for going and I hope you win BIS, but those that do not wish to go, or can not afford to go, or think it is to far for them to drive, should not be penalized for wanting to go to a show elsewhere and receive a challenge.

I'd never miss a National, no matter how far I had to go or how difficult.

  7. Wire, did you give your dog some probiotics? Protexin, Inner health tabs, natural yoghurt, a bottle of yakhult? He will need some, especially with all those antibiotics. I know some will say don't give them until the course is finished, but I would give at the same time. Why is having antibiotics? Was he tested for a specific bug? Be careful of that as some vets treat broadly and the problem will still exist underneath and return after the ab's are finished. I would not be giving them.

And don't forget Slippery elm powder from health food stores is fantastic for irritated guts. A soothing natural remedy. Fixes any issues straightaway in my experience.

  8. Is it swelling, then blood, then more swelling and mating time, then what?

I just noticed Mango's "bits" are a little swollen, but no blood. Will she bleed soon? Or have I missed something?

I have an intact male living here at the moment, how long should I keep them apart?

Surprised you don't already have the knowledge to manage entire dogs of the opposite sex prior to the bitch coming into season :o

Contact your breeder and arrange to have one of them boarded if you don't want any accidents.

  9. Conztruct, the owner of the dog apparently said that the dog had diarrhea and vomiting for several weeks which goes to say that perhaps they have not been as diligent as they should have been.

Oh Noes!! Let's all track this dreadful owner down and flog them to death :o After all third and fourth hand info is surely enough to condemn someone to death isn't it? :)

  10. please don't flame me i just wouldn't want him to be prescribed antibiotics unless its necessary. if the vet is anything like my doctor then they will give out antibiotics before theyre even sure what the problem is and i wouldn't want that for my pup.

No flaming here. You will soon learn what needs the vet and what doesn't. If he is otherwise well - eating, drinking and playing, runny poos for a couple of days is no cause for concern. You will know if he needs a vet.

No doubt once the irritation has cleared out he will be fine, and any treatment in the meantime may actually hamper nature.
