  1. I know, I had a serious phobia until about 6 years ago- every time I saw a dog I had to cross the street, hhide behind furniture, even run the other way - and yes, I was fully aware that running away would potentially send a dog running after me, but that did not enter the equation whenn I was face to face with a dog - it's irrational, but that is what a phobia is...

I hope this isnt too offtopic but, how did you fix your phobia?

My daughter sounds exactly the same (except with our dog) and I want to help her before she gets worse. Any advice?

I'm not quite sure, but I do know that Gomez is the only dog that I completely feel at ease with - I don't tend to pat other people's dogs - I can't really explain it, sorry, like I said, it's an irrational fear

Poochmad, once again, it doesn't matter how uber cute Daisy is, or how sweet she looks, if you're afraid of dogs, Daisy, and any other dog, looks like a monster to you, it doesn't matter if they are big or small, black or red or white, shaggy or groomed... etc etc...

  2. I'd be inclined to bark at her as soon as she was approaching, see if you can out 'crazy lady' her and she if she will leave you alone

Awesome, take a person that has a phobia of dogs and BARK at them... that's terrific... you are such a compassionate being! Just because she is afraid of dogs that does not make her a 'crazy lady'

Aussie3, why is it "out of hand" for your neighbours to be afraid of dogs? Because you are not?

Huski, as for trying to speak with her and trying to convince her that your dog is friendly/well behaved/non-aggressive etc... that is just a waste of breath and time, even if she spoke English - if you have a dog phobia you don't care how nice the dog is, who the owner is, if they are trained, if the sit, if they drop, even if they are on a leash - I know, I had a serious phobia until about 6 years ago- every time I saw a dog I had to cross the street, hhide behind furniture, even run the other way - and yes, I was fully aware that running away would potentially send a dog running after me, but that did not enter the equation whenn I was face to face with a dog - it's irrational, but that is what a phobia is...

  3. So the results came back and it's nothing sinister, could have been a papilloma that got a bit better with soaking or could have been a piece of something that got abcessed - either way, it's all out now and no malignant cells - the bandage has come off and the stitches will come out on Friday

Here he is with his inflatable e-collar, not as annoying as a plastic cone

  4. So the biopsy was done yesterday under sedative, a couple of stitches and a funky green bandage later I have a groggy doggy who really wants to run after his ball but is not allowed... just quick a splash and dash here and there...

Tomorrow we go for a re-bandage and hopefully results

  5. Over here the initial aspiration, pathology, and subsequent biopsy yesterday was $650 usd - what they did is basically a punch biopsy which removed the lumpy thing a couple of stitches and a bandage - a lot of the cost was the sedative and pathology...

All the best for Jodie, I hope it's nothing too serious for both of you, it really sucks, doesn't it?

Gomez sends licks...he can't really wave with his bandage on!

  6. The good news is I figured out a way to do the soaking, a plastic sour cream container, lots of treats and a towel - easy peasy... and the sore is less red and puffy. The ice cream containers here are cardboard....

The bad news, the cells came back questionable - there is evidence of a papilloma, which is not a huge problem, apaprently, but there were some other more dodgey cells and they want a better look, so it's off for a biopsy tomorrow morning - they have to sedate him, being that he is so wriggly... but not a GA...

Jodie, good thing I pushed for the aspiration like you said....

  7. Vet thinks it could be a "foreign body" which has either abcessed or the body is trying to reject, so I have to soak his paw in Dermachlor Rinse 10 minutes, twice a day -

Jodie, she still deed a needle aspiration of the lump just in case it's something more sinister... results after x-mas, of course...

NOW - how do I soak the paw of a wrigly terrier?!?!?!

  8. Thanks for clarifying that Gomez. It really does come down to what suits your own dog.

The beauty with Artemis is that there are several options. Maximal is the only grain free variety, the rest do include a balanced grain profile. There is even now (just this week) Artemis Osopure which is single meat protein so adds another great food to the country.

Sags, will you guys get Wellness over there anytime? Great stuff for cats and dogs -

There is so much variety over here it would make your head spin!

  9. What are the ingredients in Woof Bix? I can't find it online anywhere (maybe I have the "search dumb" today though!)

Clearly the Advance isn't good with your dogs, and there are much better foods out there - look for foods that don't contain corn or large amounts of cereals -

Eagle Pack is great, you can get it form this web site, among manyother in Oz http://www.petdeli.com.au/cms/

Gomez gets Eagle Pack Holistic and that gets supplemented with items form the list PPS posted above

  10. Wow, thanks so much all of you, I really appreciate it. I've kept a food bowl in the area where he sleeps tonight with a couple of biscuits and a small amount of the food the vet told me to put him on for the next few days. Hope it helps! I'll also put him on a lower fat diet. It sounds like I should drop the Eagle Pack idea in favour of Hills or Eukanuba maybe? Eukanuba is actually what he was on when he came to me, but he didn't seem to like it so I weaned him off it and on to Royal Canin. Anyway, I'll give all this a go, thanks so much!

It's comforting to me that it sounds like the problem should be diet related, because I can fix that. I didn't know if people had experiences of this type of thing leading to a viral infection or anything like that which would be more disconcerting. Although the vet did say that she didn't think it was that.

Don't drop the Eagle Pack idea before you try it, it's one of the best dry foods you guys have got out there - the Eukanuba is jammed with fillers and all the Hills, Science Diets etc are worse - In my opinion, the Royal Canin is not much better - loads of chemicals and cereals and corn that do not need to bein there- have a look through the food forums in here for a lot of information about dry dog foods or look here: http://www.dogfoodproject.com/

Gomez used to have bouts of bile in the mornings until I started giving him a pieces of kibble before bedtime - it resolved itself almost immediately -
