  1. We allow our older pups to go between 8 - 9 weeks depending on when they were born and closest weekend after they turn 8 weeks.

Don't vaccinate our Silky's until 8 weeks of age so they don't leave us until 9 weeks.

I think it does depend on breed and of course circumstances with the new owners. Something that should be worked out with your breeder!

  2. Dear people

how rude of me to offer advice, you have owned a pointer and therefore know more than my extended years of breeding and research into the behaviour of dogs.

Of course two males will get along great at first go, with no issues at all, and as the younger dog will not be showing any forms of dominance whatsoever towards the older dog as male dogs have done for eons, he will of course not attack the older dog and cause any damage.

Im so lucky to have you for a puppy owner, you must have that magic touch as you what you say will automatically be the case, and even if its in the dogs nature, once you state so, it will be so.

You can pick up the puppy at any time you like, day or night, I will make sure he is groomed and bathed, I will provide all nessicary documentation to go with him at a moments notice.

If i am busy, either feeding dogs, exercising them or even helping a mum birth a litter, then I will drop what I am doing to attend to your needs, they are far more important than the mere dogs.

My address is (insert number of local pound), please do call in when you want, I am presuming that you are the most important person in the world, and therefore will call in when it suits YOU and not anyone else.

    Forever in your debt

    Sir Sarcasm

    LOL well written!!!

I love the phone calls saying we are only after a pet - we're on a pension and don't want to pay that much, can't you sell the smallest one in the litter for less than that???

  3. Interesting to see someone using it on cats - Have you had any bad reactions??

We use Comfortis for all our dogs, buy the largest size and break down in halves and quarters as required.

The Silky's get 1/4 tab each, Belgians get 1/2 and the GSD's get a full one. Works perfectly and had no problems with it.

Only 1 dog ever had a reaction the very first time we use the product (but she reacts to certain foods as well - no reaction since the first dose)

can be used from 14 weeks of age.

  4. They have been around for a long time. Sorry I haven't trained any dogs with them so can't answer as to their training methods or results personally.

Maybe you can ask them for some references from past students....

  5. I've seen that one before!

I have one on the wall next to my front door -

"PLEASE, DON'T LET THE DOG OUT

No matter what it tells you!

    Thank you"

It is make of metal with a great piccy on it of a dog. I picked up one for a friend that says the same except for a cat (she tries to keep her cat inside) They look great and only $10 from our local Wayne's World

  6. Am currently looking at importing from NZ.

Could anyone that has done it recently please let me know what company you used and if you were happy with their service.

Also would like an estimate of costs, until I can get in touch with some companies next week....

    Thanks in advance

  7. Agree with Mikelli!!!

Don't waste your money on them. We bought heaps of them because of the number of snakes we had seen and they did nothing at all. We watched the snakes playing around them :offtopic:

Better off with the small rodent / snake wire and heaps of netting on the fences.

I am looking at having to snake proof this year - do I need to use both the rodent wire + netting - or is the bird netting enough?

I would use both if you can. I attached the wire on the fence first then the netting over the top of that. We folded the netting in half - attacehd back side to the fence and the other side pegged slightly out from the fence. Doesn't look all that attractive but it has worked.

Also depending on how much of an area you have to protect shadecloth is great. Bury the bottom in the ground against the fence and attach up as high as you can go (6ft fences). We did this to one fence and stopped a snake getting in.

'Unfortunately I have a huge area to try and cover but will be using all 3 to try to protect my dogs. Lost 3 dogs since January this year to snakes, even lost one in the middle of winter and as recently as 2 weeks ago. These damn things don't seem to sleep. :)

  8. Far to many of these are sold not to work.

One of the greatest problems is that need to be in almost full sun to re charge the batteries.

The batteries need to be checked to make sure they are working correctly.

They emit a pulse into the ground that the snakes dislike and yes they do keep them away.

They may sell alot, that doesn't mean that they work. We met the man, listened to his speel and purchase ALOT of these things. We placed them much closer together than they suggest for them to work and we still had snakes everywhere. As I said we watched the snakes playing around them. The pulse didn't chase them away at all. They were working as you can also hear them beep and we checked them regularly.

If they have worked for some people, then great for them but I certainly wouldn't rely on them to do as they claim from my own experience with them. I contacted the man and told him they didn't work and we were still getting snakes and he really didn't want to know. His attitude was that they worked for others...........

Not good enough when I'm trying to protect my beloved animals and children

  9. I don't really care about chalk and hairspray being used on dogs. I'd be more peeved when an obviously unsound dog gets put up for a major award.

LOL - you should be at some of the recent shows in SEQ and witness a particular dog winning BIG!

I'd be VERY concerned if my dog's rear end popped in and out and bunny hopped all over the place like this dog. Some judges really need to be held accountable for their obviously stupid decisions...........oh well just another one we won't enter under now.

  10. oh Jed, my heart goes out to you  every dog makes a place in our hearts, but I think Magnus holds a very special place. He was one of a kind and such a grand little man who will always be remembered by many of us I am sure. A fabulous boy with so many wonderful tales to tell.

I enjoyed reading your tribute to him, with tears rolling down my face and a smile and giggle at his intelligence, cheeky antics and bravery.

 Run free beautiful Mr Magnus, make sure you keep everyone in line, and have fun chancing those birds :)

Ditto!! I'm crying too much to type anything worthwhile.

My thoughts are with you Jed. So glad you have this forum to share your thoughts and feelings about your beloved kids

  11. ;) :):rofl::rofl::laugh::rofl::)

    :rofl::o .

I haven't post in this forum before and like many here I check several times a day for updates. I've shed more than a few tears over your situation and have silently sent you many wishes of support.

SO GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK HERE!

Best of luck for your continued recovery and as you can see on here there are LOTS of people here more than willing to support and help out where/when ever it is needed.

I think I have something in my eye so better go hug a few furkids!

  12. Have noticed with our current litter that we are getting alot of enquiries via text......

I do list the mobile no for enquiries and know that alot of people use the technology but I wouldn't enquire about a new member of our family via a text and don't like the answer questions about the puppies via text.

In the past I have just deleted any text enquires but since advertising this litter have received heaps of text. I usually send a message to call if you are interested but don't usually hear from them. Obviously not that interested!!

What do others do if/when they recieve text enquiries???

  13. I'm by no way a gardener and don't have any garden beds in my yard. After losing a couple of puppies about 12 mths ago from chewing on plants in my friends garden I won't have any gardens where my dogs can get to.....

It was just horrible seeing healthy, vibrant puppies go downhill so quickly.........

Now I warn all my puppy buyers to check their gardens and watch what the puppy is doing if you do have plants where the puppy will be kept.

Just google poisonous plants - you will be surprised just how many are poisonous

  14. Most of the pics I see of these kind of dogs are black blurs

Thats because Belgian Shepherds never stop moving! Its in their blood

Actually, thats not quite true, they start to slow down around age 5!

Geez, noone ever told my Belgians that they were supposed to slow done at 5!!

Around 12yrs they might start slowing down :bottom:
