  1. I am wondering if anyone uses the Volhard aptitude test to select potential working puppies and interested to know from anyone experienced with the Volhard test if the procedure is an effective process???. We are contemplating to use the Volhard test on a working line GSD litter as a guage having the pick of the 3 males from the litter to help select the puppy with the best working/sporting potential.

Any opinions on puppy testing or the Volhard system would be greatly appreciated

we picked a puppy using K9 force method which to me seemed logical as we were told the Volhard test has varied ways to interpret the results

  2. Hi all

well poor old Bruno has been in the wars, he has been teething and his mouth was bleeding mainly at night as I would find blood on the tiles in the morning this got really bad on Monday morning there was a lot of blood so I took him to the vet from there it just got worse and the vet gave him a blood transfusion. Well as you can imagine I was beside myself I went to see him last night and his eyes were not bright at all but he did eat his dinner. I went again this morning and he was much better and was trying to get that bandage off his paw. Hopefully I can pick him up today.

Has anyone heard of any blood disorders in schnauzers? the vet thinks this may be a genetic disorder but we have to wait for blood tests to come back

  3. yes my pup had blood in poo but it was on top of poo, vet said it was colitus (not sure of spelling) where the bowl is irritated he said he should have a bland diet and gave me some tabs also not sure what they were but seemed to correct itself soon after I have noticed my pup is senstive to food changes

  4. I'm picking up my mini schnauzer in 11 days time (yay!!) and he will be 8 weeks old to the day. This is purely coincidence though, he rather politely was born on a Saturday. I cant wait! I have attached his picture (6 weeeks) cos I think he is just too darn cute  Good luck with your puppy hunting, lost of the mini breeders I have spoken to (in NSW) will let you take them at 8 weeks if all is well but not a second before, they have such important lessons to learn in the meantime.

I got my puppy a giant schnauzer at 7 weeks because of holidays already booked, breeder was reluctant to let him go before 8 weeks but vet advised that puppy was o.k to go early

pup is now 12 weeks and I have had no problems at all he even lets himself out at night to toilet via a doggy door

  5. I was reading on a post here about creating a puppy pen with some compost mesh ( I think .. ) for about $20 from Bunnings . What a good idea I thought ! So off I went to Bunnings today but alas , I could not find anything in the compost bin section that would make a puppy pen . ( Even the very helpful man could not suggest anything )

If anyone here has experience with this product could you please give me a few more detail and I will go and have another look .

    Thanks so much !

saw them today at Bunnings at Dural in the compost bin section
