  1. I am north of the river but travel to see Carolyn at Train-a-pup time near Armadale. It is a long way but Carolyn came so highly recommended on here that I thought 5 trips is such a small inconvenience when taking the lifetime of the dog into consideration and the benefits that come from it will far outweigh the mileage on the car or the time to get there and back. It's straight down the freeway on a Sunday morning, even my L plate daughter manages it with ease! And Koda LOVES pre school, every time we go for a long drive in the car now, he thinks we are going to school and gets excited! ;)

Carolyn is a good friend of mine I just thought Clarkson is north of the stump :(

Sure come down here .. excellent TAP time :o

Sounds good, as a person who went to a puppy class at a local vet, in the Northern suburbs of Perth, and wouldn't do it again. I say the travel would be worth it.

  2. Just had a call from his owner and someone called him last night and they had Whip, so Whip is safely back home

I really do hope my flyers at the beach helped him to get home!

Great news, I am sure all your hard work has paid off, good to hear Whip is home :)

  3. I have a Westie, Mia, who is just over 2 years of age. We have had her from a puppy, she is my shadow when I am at home, but also happy to spend time by her self when I am at work.

I think they are a great breed, mind you teaching her recall has been a challenge and I still do not trust her recall 100% and I am careful were I let her off lead.

I find her very affectionate, but she doesn't want to sit on your lap, but will lay right next to you. Westies do not shed shed, to me is a great advantage.

Mia is very social with people and other dogs, she just loves everyone. She will however chase the neighbours cat, but will also behave herself if she stays at a friends house who has 6 cats, she stayed there for 10 nights, and the cats let her know who was boss !

I have found Mia, my first Westie a great family pet.

I hope you find the right dog for you .

  4. Thank you all so much for your thoughts.

Cruise came home this afternoon, The professionalism (is that even a word!) by the cremation company was amazing. They came and picked him up Monday morning and brought him home today. I was thinking I would have to wait over a week.

    Hi Sarah,

Thats the right word ! Thinking of you guys, still can't believe it myself, hope you are going ok.

  5. Hi

I am new to these forums and have already got some fantastic advice. We are hoping to get a new westie puppy in a couple of weeks. We already have an 11 yr old westie, Rosie. I would be grateful for any advice on how to introduce them to each other and also re ongoing puppy training with another dog around. I was planning to crate train and use a pen for times when I may have to go out but unsure how Rosie will react to the puppy in the crate/pen.

    Grateful for any tips/advice.

    Thanks

Hello, I don't have any advice as I only have one dog, a 2 year old Westie, called Mia, I may get another one soon, so would be interested in any advice also.

Have you visited the sub forum Westie page, come and say hello.

  6. Hi,

I have a Westie, and when she was younger, she used to eat her poo too. I think it may be a stage, a yukky one though!!.

With changing the dry food, I think you should introduce the new food slowly, ie mix with the original.

Pop into the Westie page and say hello, or even better post a photo we love photos.!!

    Ally :) :)

  7. I took my Westy pup to a vet clinic for puppy school. I had already socialised her a little bit (she was 14 weeks when she started) prior to puppy school, and all was going well. I found puppy school really didn't help Mia. It was free for all, and a couple of the dogs in our opinion were too boistrous/strong for the smaller puppies. Mia was sore after the first session, and looking back we really shouldn't have gone again. A large percentage of the lesson, she spent under chairs keeping away from dogs she was nervous of. I would never ever go to a free for all session again. Yes its important for them to get to know all sizes of dogs etc, but not to get trampled and bullied.
