  1. Going to Sydney for our national and the royal at easter next year. Looking for accom within driving distance to penrith, showgrounds, airport. Finding it hard with the dogs.

Anyone have any suggestions? You can pm me if you dont want to post on here.

You could look at some of these on spring fair website - http://www.springfair.com.au/accom.php or http://www.dogzonline.com.au/accommodation/accomlist.asp?page=2&state=2

  2. Congratulations on getting your permit and all organised for your new import into Australia very soon. thumbsup1.gif

I thought the new EU requirements were only for entering the UK and not exporting to Australia from what I have read.

Can you please give me the link to the new requirements please, much appreciate it.. thanks

  3. As at 16 Aug 2011, Dogs QLD transferred a dog, sold (in NSW) on the Limited

Register to the Main Register WITHOUT the breeders consent, knowledge or right

    of reply.

This is a dangerous precedent and a Pandora's box!

An appeal has been lodged to Dogs QLD.

If you use the Limited Register this is a friendly heads up. You might not be as 'safe' as you think you are.

It seems Dogs Qld always do their own thing whether its right or wrong and dont care. They transferred a dog out of my name as co owner and into other co owners name only a number of years ago - without my signature or knowledge and I could do nothing about it.

  5. Sorry but I am sick of farmers complaining about the death of stock to dogs, dingos and foxes.

What are they doing to protect them?

Why are farmers not embracing livestock guardian dogs such as the maremma sheepdog?

I have stopped and photographed paddocks with upto a hundred lambs and ewes slaughtered. I put a note in the farms letter box giving them the contact details of my maremma's breeder.

I was talking to a farmer last weekend who has had 4 maremmas over the last 20 years for his goats, he went from a 99% kid loss to 100% success rate.

I have lived on the land most of my life and been involved with properties that run in excess of 10,000 sheep. To say that you are sick of farmers complaining, you have no idea the amount of time and money spent on trying to maintain and ensure the safety of their livestock. Many smaller properties use alpacas successfully. But there are a number of reasons that maremma are not used on larger properties, one is that bait is laid around certain times of the year (mainly lambing time) and the dogs will eat it, another is the maremma being protective can often be a problem when trying to muster, there are many more. Pet dogs are the main problem with losses on sheep properties more than foxes and dingoes. Pet dogs kill and maul for fun, dingoes and foxes mainly kill for food. I could go on and on on this subject. I have a real hate for people that let their pet dogs run loose in their neighbourhood/area.

  6. Legacee, I have seen & heard your last sentence over the years too frown.gif

The worst I think that comes to mind, was several years ago when one lady All Breeds judge stormed out of the ring after BIS judging with the comment "that's the last time I GIVE HIM a best in group" eek1.gif

Funnliy enough I have never entered under her, nor will I either!

Nothing will ever change and it just continues to get worse. Nearly every show it happens....... icon_smile_mad.gif I have had just about enough of showing because of it and rarely enter under local judges.

  7. If it wins enough I'd say most folk will think its good enough

You will often see a dog that is winning regularly be it because it is a good example of the breed or not siring a number of litters. I often hear from breeders saying that they are going to use so and so cause it is so good and has won so much.

I have seen grand champions that have the wrong movement and yet they continue to be put up.

I am not saying that all judges are face judging but it is starting to get beyond a joke.

I am more than happy to see a dog win consistantly if it is good, but when it is a bad example of the breed it is giving false hopes to the owner/breeder/handler.

It is also interesting to see some of the dogs that are winning consistantly at all breeds can not win at a specialty.

In the past 20 years I have seen a lot of things change in the show world but you have to wonder why there is less and less people showing now than then.

    Leanne

    Totally agree Leanne.

I have shown for over 25years and love catching up with friends and love showing my dogs. I have had many successes including BIS winners but have become very disheartened with face judging. Some states of aust are worse than others. I often know who is getting the group and sometimes BIS before the show has even happened. The amount of money spent on entering/travelling to shows, conditioning dogs, importing new lines and exhibiting them only to be beaten by a face no matter how good or bad their dog is, has become an expensive joke. Judges are in my opinion some of the worse offenders when showing their own dogs, you put my dog up this week I'll put yours up next week and it goes on and on..........................

  8. If anyone is going to shows near Syd,canberra or sapphire Shows over the next week from melb and can take a 7 month old pointer bitch with them, it would be much appreciated. Pickup from you can be arranged anywhere between these places. Thank you in advance

    Wendy

  9. Just mulling this one over as I think the meaning has many different interpretations. Is it......

    An ANKC Registered Bitch

Yes and of course on MAIN register as well as the owner must be the person doing the litter.

A bitch that falls in line with your breeding "type" and program
No, the breeding has nothing to do with MY vision for the breed nor would I demand that it be incorporated into my current breeding program. The breeder of the bitch has a vision and a program, it's not my right to state to them that they can not use one of my boys because it doesn't fit with MY plans down the road, nor would I have the right to state to them that their bitch isn't my TYPE so therefore wouldn't benefit from the use of one of my boys.
A bitch that is "pleasing to your eye" and meets "your approval"

It's not a case of whether the bitch is pleasing to my eye. It's a case of whether her short comings will or might be removed by using one of my boys. I must look at the whole package, but when breeding and trying to improve, you have to zero in on specifics and calculate if the use of stud dog A or B will help. As for my approval, it's not that simple...it's all of these questions, not just what the bitch looks like...don't forget, there are health checks to do and of course temperament must come into things as well.

    A bitch that is Titled

No, however the breeder must have shown a level of committment to the breed, and often that IS showing....if the bitch has been shown and falls short of a title...not a problem..if the bitch has never been shown, the breeder doesn't want to show her or her offspring, than YES it matter and I will not agree to just producing puppies.

    Or something else entirely?

As mentioned above, there are more items I consider, I also ask the owner of the bitch what they expect from the use of MY boy..remember..as stud owner, I can turn a bitch down....it's also important to listen to the owner of the bitch and appreciate their side as to why they contacted me in the first place. Everyone has a different interpretation of their breed and path they are wanting to go. By listening to the bitches owner, often the stud dog owner gets insite into an aspect that they had not considered before.

That pretty much nails it in my opinion.

Agree here also. But Bitch MUST be health screened where the breed requires. ie: hips, elbows, eyes clear etc

  10. I am under the impression if a show is cancelled for any reason then your entry fees are not returned, I am not sure because I have never actually entered a show that has been cancelled due to rain (or any other reason). In most cases my cheque for my entries is usually cashed a week or so before the show :)

I have probably shown at least a dozen times at agi/country shows in the last twelve months in conditions worse than what Lang Lang *appears* to be in, if I had a choice between showing in conditions that are a little wet under foot and temperatures of 30 degress plus I would choose the wet. We haven't had any rain since lunchtime, the sun has been shining and the forecast for tomorrow is for 28 with light drizzle in the morning :)

    Just my opinion

    Totally Agree....
