  1. I am looking to import myself very soon. Has anyone thought of or looked into insurance to cover the dog whilst it is there and in transit? If so any advice woul dbe welcomed. I'm sure the original poster might welcome some ideas as well. Cheers :)

  2. You need a monitor calibration software/hardware package. There is also a pretty crappy one that comes with Windows but it might get you in the ballpark.

Monitors need to be recalibrated regularly. Here are two sites to help you check yours:

    Calibration

    Gray bar

If you're sure your monitor is dialed in and your prints come back yuck, it's the printer. Have the lab redo them and tell them not to adjust anything at all and that your files are how you want them printed.

Thank you for that info. I did know about calibration but have never done it and to be honest didn't know where to start. I shall give it a go - thanks

  3. Calibrate your monitor.

If your monitor is not calibrated you have no idea how the prints will turn out. If your monitor IS calibrated properly and the prints come back really off, it's a printing problem. Reputable labs will redo the bad prints.

They likely won't do any adjustments for you but check their site to see if they offer it as an extra service. You'll have to pay and then trust their judgment.

Thanks KJA. Is there any hard and fast rule for getting the calibration right? I mean everything looks fine on the screen it is when it prints out that there seems to be issues. The monitor is the same brand as the computer.

  4. I just had some canvases delivered from http://www.canvasfactory.com.au/ I got a voucher deal from www.dealme.com.au for 30x45cm prints for $19 each.

They are great quality, very happy with them, although they are based in Tasmania, the parcel came from China, so I'm guessing they have them dropshipped.

    Good deal anyway :)

I also got this deal but am worried...

How do you know they will be light enough for the print? I look at the pics on my computer and they look fine but I recently sent a photo over to Germany to be printed on one of their show dog calendars and it came out very dark :( Will the place "edit" the pic or do they just print it as is? So to bad if it isn't right!

  5. I won, I won, I won :happydance:

After reading through this thread and seeing the great freebies K9 Pro had up for grabs I decided to enter todays competition and won :dancingelephant::happydance2::happydance:

I am so happy and am looking forward to receiving the squishy dog bowl. It will be fantastic for use at the shows

  6. First time poster, long time lurker.

I have a litter of std poodles due on the 5th of June

    bel - Shih Tzus - 24th.

    Rebanne - Greyhounds - 24th.

    bel - Shih Tzus - 26th.

    Cavalblaze - Cavaliers - 26th.

    edgesmum - German Spitz - 26th.

You need to get over to the poodle thread quick smart and introduce yourself

    Good luck with your babies

  7. Can someone please tell me which test should be performed on the parents of toy poodles before being bred trying to help a friend ensure she is going to a registered breeder thanks :)

PRA testing is not compulsary but the majority of good breeders do test. having said that the trend is now to say the pup is normal/clear by parantage. Most people will accept this without even asking for proof  If I were to purchase a poodle puppy I would be asking for a copy of the parents certificates. If they are clear by parentage then I would want a copy of their parents (pups grandparents) - get my drift :D It is way too easy to say this now and get away with not testing :D

Christina is correct. Patella is another issue withint he toy breed. Not everyone tests for it either, although the puppy should have been to the vet prior to sale and had their patellas tested.

You would be unlucky to come across the other diseases but they do exist.

As for reputable registered breeders - well you don't have to be reputable to breed. You just need a bitch and a dog.. Registered does not automatically mean reputable either. The best thing to do is ring as many breeders as possible and sort through them. Ask many questions - even very silly ones and see what responses you get. Go with a breeder you feel comforatable with.

    Hope that helps.

  8. Sorry to hear this mini girl. I'm with Aziah on this one. It certainlysounds liek a drop in progesterone levels causing her to go into whelp early.

I have a toy poodle bitch who has been mated twice and both times she lost her litters. First time at 10 days and second time at 8 days. The second time I was onto it early but my vet didn't fully believe that she would go early again. I took her into the clinic with one in the birth canal and I lost her that evening. I knew she would be dead but held hope that the porgesterone injection given would hold her for a few more days. That didn't happen. She had the last 2 puppies 2 days later. They survived for a day but their lungs were not fully developed and even in an incubator they were struggling to breath.

If I were to do it again I would get blood test from 2 weeks out to moitor levels and administer tablets when required. The down side of it is your bitch will need a c - section as the progesterone doesn't have time to drop if you are giving it regularly.

I am not sure what the chances of it happeneing again to yoru bitch but for me 2 times is too many..

  9. Awesome photos everyone. :) Wish I could have been there.

I am also wondering how you guys get the sharpness and focus in your photos? I have just come back from Uluru and an so disappointed with most of my pics as they don't seem as crystal clear as these ones.

Any tips you wouldn't mind sharing?

    I am using a Canon 500D

I dont feel I get the same results as some, my editing skills aren't too flash but I use DPP and Zoom Browser which are free Canon programs and come on a CD with your camera. They are good programs, it's just my skill that is lacking. Have you tried them?

No I haven't as I use photoshop. But it is the initial taking of the pic that I find I am lacking that sharp focus. I guess Ishould ask are you using the multi focus system on the camera or the single spot? Maual or auto?

  10. Awesome photos everyone. Wish I could have been there.

  11. Sorry to hear of your experience. I hope that not too much damage has been done to Lexie both menatlly and physically.

What has worked for me in the past when walking my toy poodles.

I have found the best way to deter street savvy/stray dogs is to face them, bend down and pretend to pick up a rock or stick and then go through the throwing action (exagerated like you are really going to peg it at the dog). During the act of throwing the non existant object yell go away or something similar. I have yet to see a dog not respond to this.
