  1. This is what Cohuna tried to do back in 2008. They postponed the second show by a few hours (memory fading here) until the temp dropped. However much as I support the clubs decision on the day and still do, there were a lot of people complaining about the delay. Result is that the Sunday show there were a lot of withdrawals. Some admittedly because it was hot but a few were heard to say that if the club were to postpone the show for a few hours they were going home. So that in many of the groups half the entries were scratched. We went a bought a generator and fans and waited it out. But then we didn't have much choice. If we went back to our motel we could have kept cool but the dogs wouldn't have in the trailer. We couldn't go home as it is an eight hour drive in the heat so again the dogs couldn't keep cool. So we stayed there with the fan on us and the dogs.
  2. Could be Mount Gambier/Tantanoola too
  3. Yes the year before last was a scorcher. We went up town on the saturday to buy a generator and leads and fans to try and keep cool. I didn't think last year was that bad really. Probably because we are used to the heat in our area.
  4. Would love to know whos Tenterfield got Baby in group
  5. Getting back to the original topic Am I understanding this right? A person who is a judge (but not actually judging at the time of offence) has been banned for intimidating and threatening another judge who was judging at the time. Thats how it reads to me but just want to make sure I am understanding it properly.
  6. Could be that they themselves do not have any answers yet. Although they could at least let you know that they are waiting for results if that is the case.
  7. If it were my dog no matter how good the dog may be at recall at that age there is no way I would let him off the lead. Ultimately you know your dog and if you feel comfortable with keeping him on lead then by all menas do so. The definition of lead free is its optional not mandatory. Just because a speed limit is 100 ks an hour doesn't mean you must do it. Just that its the most you can do. You know your dog and its limits. If you are happy to leave it on lead then what other people say is irrelevant. What really annoys me is when boof headed people let their dogs run off lead in public places where they should by law be on lead.
  8. In the three states we show in if I have a new pup I enter them and put pending in where the number goes but I do make sure I have the number on the actual day. We were told years ago that you could enter them this way but if you didn't have the number on the day you couldn't show them. Don't know if this is actually within the rules but thats how we have been doing it and every secretary at the shows we have done it have been ok. At least none of them said anything anyway.
  9. Isn't that to pay for those big wide flat dry roads down there?
  10. Yep, wasn't happy!! He is forever turning around looking for food now That sort of interference is still covered by the double handling rule. As it is interfering with the dog. Just tell them to back off or you'll lodge a complaint against them. See if they don't back off even though you probably won't put in the complaint. Poker bluff.
  11. You know what they say about people that talk to themselves
  12. Slight twist too topic but when did it become compulsory to chip in QLD. The reason I ask is I have three dogs here which all came from QLD, and as I live in NSW I had them all chipped here. Will admit that the youngest of the three is now 2 years old. Just wondering the date it became mandatory in case I get a fourth dog down.
  13. If you consider it a big deal or not the point of the matter, and I assume the reason you posted, is that a dog (yours) is distracted while in the ring being judged thus putting your dog at a disadvantage. Unfortunately there are too many that do this deliberately, which in my view means they are looking to get an advantage and its usually because they are a win at all costs type. We usually get it happening for in show classes etc where we have to line up behind the toy dog but have a gundog behind us. We have had a few instances where the person running the gundog around seem to think they have the whole ring and expect you to jump out of their way even though you might be sorting your dog out. We even had one gundog person let their dog come up and sniff the bum of one of mine. Now the dog I had is usually quite good natured and well behaved but he spun around and showed very much that he did not care for what the dog behind him was doing. And then the person had the nerve to say "Oh he is quite vicious isn't he?" to which I just said "No he isn't. How would you like a stranger sticking his nose in your bum for a sniff?" Think they got the hint. Steward was standing in front of the toy dog before us just laughed.
  14. I always though there was a rule about being two metres apart but after looking through what I have here I can't find it. Perhaps the following might be of help though. After all it is interfering with your dog. Nothing that says double handling applies only to attracting attention of a dog. it could also mean interfering with another dog being judged, which in your case is what I understood to have happened. Taken from DogsNSW Conformation show rules page 52 (bolding is by me) 16.7 “Double Handling” includes attracting or exciting the attention of, communicating with or touching, handling or in any way interfering with an exhibit that is in a ring in which judging is taking place, but does not include any activity undertaken by approval given by the Board of Directors pursuant to Regulations 12.21 and 12.22. 06/07, 3/08 Me, i'd just tell them to back off or I'll lodge a complaint as per above. Its a pretty low thing to do in the ring. We are lucky in that we don't often get many breeds after us so we are usually end of the line (which has its own set of problems) but it has happened a few times.
  15. OT - Interesting to see the price variations on rego for trailers. I know in NSW even a 6 x 4 box trailer needs rego, unlike in Victoria - no reg needed as long as it does not exceed the maximum length for no rego. Doesn't everything cost a heap more in NSW???? Well another example is my caravan, that I no longer have, would cost $153.00 per year plus a yearly inspection of about $25. plus the hassle of getting it out and taking it to be inspected then putting it back in the yard. Itself a full day job. Plus gas inspection every 10 years (although I can understand the reasoning behind that). Also In NSW it could only be done for 12 months. In SA I could do 3,6,9 or 12 months rego and the last rego (last year) was $52.00. To do a first rego in NSW there is the Blue slip, and weigh bridge ticket. In SA I just went to the motor registry down there and filled out the paperwork. The van was still in the caravan park we were staying in. I only took it down to SA in case it had to be checked. Didn't even check the gas compliance. I wonder about SA when my uncle can go and get a truck registered without it being checked its safe. My bus on the other hand (rego in NSW) gets a real going over every year, and really I am glad it does. Must admit though its the paying out the money part I hate. I suppose when travelling you just never really know if the car coming towards you is safe or not.
  16. If this me in this position I would make a complaint to the committee every time he done it!! And if it kept on happening then I would make a complaint to the state board. That is just sheer rudeness, and they thought that he could be training for his judges licence is just not a good one. JSK if it did happen to you............. Did you ever stop think that the steward may be an all breeds judge???? Many all breeds judges still steward in Qld. Some say things just for a bit of fun, don't take it to seriously. Firstly I know that many all breeds judges steward in QLd I am far from a new exhibitor! But I took it as yarracully was upset by what the steward was saying by the way she phrased it: My mistake. But yes if a stewarding was doing something on a regular basis that upset me I would make a complaint, and I have done so before and yes the steward was an all breeds judge. The steward/ judge did come and apologise and told me he didnt realise that I was upset by it, and yes I have been under this judge since (I did have hesitations) and he never held a grudge. In all fairness JSK I can understand how you might have gotten that impression from the word I used. I call him that too his face anyway. It doesn't upset me greatly, as such, just winds me up. Myself and others have spent years of trying to get away from our breed being refered to as Mini Foxies, as they aren't and I think this fact alone is why he winds me up about it. He just knows he will always get a bite from it. By the way JSK, Yarracully is not a "she". No offence taken by the way Oops crap. Sorry. No problems. Though you do raise an interesting point in that while some people may take it as a joke and laugh it off, others may find it offensive. It is a very thin line which is easily crossed, albeit, accidently.
  17. Yes if it hasn't already been asked how many Tenterfield terriers please? Edited to add:scratch that just seen it.
  18. Just curious do you still have an address in SA? Or perhaps someone elses address? I used to have a caravan registered to a relatives address in SA as the rego on the van was cheaper there than NSW. The relative just sent the renewals up and I went to the Post Office and paid it. Altough I'm not suggesting you do this as that wouldn't be right.
  19. Well if they come with papers can I get a pink Male and a green female (preferably littermates). I promise I wont breed them I just want to try them at agility.
  20. Doesn't matter if it is still registered in SA or not. It would be classed as a new rego in NSW so therefore it will need a blueslip as well as being put over a weightbridge as NSW rego is determined by weight of trailer. When you get it weighted take everything off it you canlike spare wheel etc. If it comes in under 400 KGs it wont need a yearly inspection and is cheaper to register. Our old trailer was 350 kg and it only cost about $50 per year and no yearly inspection. but the current trailer is over so it costs about $150.00 and has to be inspected every year which is an extra $25 or so.
  21. Motel in Echuca last year. Year before across the river at Barham. Cohuna caravan park is straight across the road from teh show grounds but getting there seems to be near impossible. They only have a few cabins.
  22. Been known to travel thirteen hours one way. Actually done it a couple of times now. Once leaving at 5am and travelled through, and once leaving after work at 3.30pm and travelled through. Don't have a lot of choice. Travel or don't show, simple as that.
  23. We could do something like you suggest for the Rising Star. Re the breed competition, how would you a handle breed that has maybe only a couple of dogs being shown at each show? How would you differentiate all the doga at the top? What about those that can't do 30-40 best results. After all this would mean 30 or 40 shows. Many in rural areas simply do not get that many shows. We travel to three different states just to get 24 shows a year. There would be many others that are in this position. I really wish I lived in the cities where I could show every weekend instead of averaging one weekend a month.
  24. Can I join your club. We have had two bitches finish a year on 99 points. Our Abbie finished 2008 on 99 and had to wait to get the last one. Then from Easter (our first show for the year) she had to compete against our Indie (got last point in October) and now our Indie finished 2009 on 99 and again our first show is easter.
