It just people being lazy & not bothering to use or type the correct name for a breed.
-
What about an Airedale Terrier or Irish Terrier, if you wanted something a bit smaller ?
-
Irish Terriers are quite but not really small.
-
I have a friend who firmly believes that all purebred dogs are 'highly strung' & that's why one should always buy a crossbred.

Bonnie Working Dog, not Bonnie Complete. About $40/20 Kg.

Is it easy to find the 4 x 2 's in Melb???
I get mine from Oban Trading. They sell them in 10kg boxes or 1kg bags.

There is not really much point in pointing out all the errors, mistakes etc in this article in this DOL thread. I doubt that the editor of The Weekend Australian Magazine would even know of its existence. A better idea would be to send emails to The Weekend Australian Magazine "[email protected]"

Very interesting. I have always been under the impression that a dog should only be fed once a day & that a dog will curl-up & go to sleep after a feed. It seems strange to feed a dog in the morning "so that it will have energy for the day" Guard dogs are fed after their 'shift' to keep them alert when they need to be.
My 2 dogs are fed in the evening & turn into couch potatoes for the rest of the night.

$28 for 22kgs that's $1.27 per kg. Take off the cost of manufacture, packaging, transportation, profit etc and it tells me the ingredients have to be very poor quality cheap stuff that goes into making it. Can it possibly be good for any dog well I suppose some people must think if they're buying it!
Rubbish. Not all dog food producers want to make large profits by ripping off the consumer. A lot of people have been brain washed by "big business" that expensive MUST be better. If you don't pay big dollars for a small bag of dogfood you are a bad dog owner & not doing right for your dog. A lot of dogs are doing very well on Uncle Albers & Great Barko. Its not what people think its in the results.

Slightly off topic but I've been told that its OK to take a Sentinel White for 22-45 kg dogs & split them roughly in half to treat a 13kg + a 22kg dog.
Any thoughts ?
Yeppers, I split the White Sentinel in halves for my two smaller dogs. Works well.
Thanks cavNrott, my wife reminded me that it was our vet who suggested this to us ! Nice vet

Hey piper ...
Don't knock Aussie Stafford too much. He/She may stop posting & we need a bit of light entertainment

This is one of the funniest threads ever !!!!!
I haven't stopped chuckling since the first outburst from Aussie Stafford.

F Y I ... Aussie Stafford
Not many wolves or wild dogs eat yoghurt, carrot sticks, apple slices, cheese, fruit puree ice blocks & fruit mango etc
Whatever works for you & your dog is OK BUT don't get all excited when someone suggests something & reply in CAPITALS. Its not polite !

i wont touch bonnie, i worked in a kennel that used it, and all the dogs did fine on it - but for my dogs? Nope, seems i had to feed them twice as much, and got 10 times the poops out the other end!!
I feed nurtience, and wont ever change, but if i HAD to, i would go back to supercoat, one of the few foods Atlas does well on (kaos could eat chum for the rest of her life and be in perfect condition !!)
Need to be specific as Bonnie comes in two varieties- Bonnie Complete is chicken based & not good. Bonnie Working Dog Is roo/beef based & is the one to use.
-
And here's another one i feed only frames or thigh's with a small amount of dry and the dogs love it and i only have a small amount of poo's to pick up each day, the dogs look great and keep their weight better this way...
Most Girls ( or boy's ) at pet shops parrot fashion things they have heard from other customers and they come out with soooo much tripe sometime's just to make a sale
If anything, it will not be a bone build up it will be sand from the owners throwing their food out in the dirt the body will pass the dirt easily but sometime's the sand seperate's and sink's into that little pouch bit below the outlet of the stomach and it builds up and sometimes cause's the animal to go off their food ( they feel full ) they develop a temp and if nothing is done they will die....
Linda..
that is rather interesting, I should stop letting my two boogers eat outside. they love to lie in what was the lawn [now a big sandy dustbowl] and munch down on their chicken carcasses
Me too. I give my Irish Terrier her chicken carcass on the relative clean concrete drive & she drags it onto the 'lawn' & eats it together with the sand & dried grass etc etc. Maybe she likes to add a bit of greens & condiments to her food !!

I dip any tablet in vegemite. My dogs love it & the tablet goes down without any problems.

@ Crisovar, excellent post. Agree with all points.

"In my opinion a vet isn't always interested in the best foods for a dog, they are paid commissions to sell the dog foods they "recommend" and at the end of the day they really do not want dogs to be healthy. They are in the business of treating dogs that are unhealthy and therefore benefit from dogs on a bad diet."
Pretty offensive really, not helpful and just plain rude, no doubt your vet awaits an ear bashing every time you come in. Please do not defame an entire industry with your judgemental opinions that are certainly radical. None of this will actually help the original poster.
Agree - What a load of rubbish - The post should be deleted by the moderators as it is insulting to all vets, besides being plain stupid.

Bonnie Working Dog at about $40/20kg is a good choice. Don't recommend Bonnie Complete.

Has anybody used the deshedder or the furminator on an Airedale or Irish Terrier ? I use the Coat King #20 & it does a good job but always looking for something better.
-
I feed bones, chicken frames, wings, turkey necks and lamb shanks, not at the same time also I feed mince meat with veges. So it is a combination really.
I feed tha same as you do but I also feed EP
I forgot to mention that!! I feed EP - a handful in the morning each - apart from all the raw food which some may say contradicts the philosophy of feeding raw because dry food is cooked but i find that their condition is better when I add this in. They both have really shiny coats and beautiful sparkly teeth and most of all - they look happy and fit! I also find with RAw feeding, they don't need to eat much and they pooh much much less - food is more easily digested, meaning there's less for me to clean up every few days!! woohoo!
What is EP ?
-
in our breed yes & it has increased the pancreatitis issue ten fold.
They are highly predisposed too it & thats why as breeders we suggest a diet that is suitable for that risk.
What breed are you talking about ?
-
Yup, dog poo trick works.
