  1. Not dog related, but I went on a summer bush-walk one time and ran out of water, thinking there would be a creek much earlier in the journey. I did eventually come across a creek, but by then I was so thirsty I just dropped to my knees and started gorging myself on the sweetest, most welcome water ever. When I finally emerged for air I looked up and about 2' upstream from where I was drinking there was a festering, bloated possum carcass semi-submerged and wedged behind a rock.

I was fine so the story isn't really that exciting. Amazing what you can get away with drinking.

    :)

Lovemesideways - so nice of your boy to share his delicacy!

  2. I have used Pookinuk many times and have found that they are usually very quick with sending their orders out and responding to inquiries.

Last time, however, when I ordered from them there was no mention that they were out of the large bag of one of the types of EPH I ordered. They sent out a smaller bag (charged me for the big bag though) and promised to send me another smaller bag once they received more stock. Well 6kg doesn't go far and a few weeks later we were completely out. I couldn't source another supplier as everyone was having issues so had to resort to another brand all together. (Dog wasn't impressed at al!). I emailed the company prior to running out and received no response(which is unusual they had always been prompt in replying or calling in the past). In the end I rang them and they agreed to send out another variety of EPH which they had in stock.

I have since reordered with them, more EPH, and I noticed at the time of putting my order through the website did state that they were out of stock with EPH and delivery could be expected to take up to 3 weeks.

I received an email on Friday to state that they had shipped my order out. I expect that it should arrive on Monday.

So hopefully your order will be here soon Huski.

It does make it difficult and worrisome when responses to email/calls go unanswered.

  3. Ewww, hugs to you! Sounds like a creepy experience. Unfortunately scumbags like this guy do exist and it makes a lot of women feel like they can't go out in broad daylight.

This is one of the reasons I never go for a walk with iPod headphones in - not being able to hear a car pull up, etc. I'm automatically suspicious of anyone who slows down near me on the road, even if they're just pulling into their own driveway I turn on the death glare. I was once approached by a guy wearing a trenchcoat who I suspect may have intended to flash his junk (uck) at me. Luckily my staffy x must have thought something was up because he snarled at the guy once and he went running.

Carrying a stick helps ward off weird people as well as stray dogs! And make sure you always have a phone on you, that way you can take down a number plate or call cops. Good stuff. :D

I want to reiterate Hanna's suggestion. Pre-dog, I walked to/from work, uni etc with headphones in as a matter of course...until the afternoon I didn't hear a car following behind me and the next thing I know some malefactor is pulling me into the car. Luckily I got away relatively unscathed but if I'd been more aware of my surroundings, the whole incident could have been avoided.

    How terrifying for you Sydoo!!

I no longer walk with my ipod either after a fright, as I too am worried I won't hear something I might need to.

  4. I have floating timber floors. They are covered in scratches from the dogs!

If I could choose I would have non slip tiles or slate. We had slate in another house and it never looked dirty it was wonderful!

I must say that I do love the fact that the floors are easy to vacuum/sweep up dog hair, so that is a plus.

  5. I am sorry that such a scary thing happened to you. He sounds like a major creep and I am not surprised that you now don't feel safe out walking on your own.

I had a frightening experience early one morning whilst out walking my boy. I got this gut feeling that I was being followed only to turn around and see two blokes running down the hill after me! (I had seen them up on the road a few moments beforehand but didn't realise that they would be an issue as they were walking in the opposite direction to me.)The only choice I had was to walk on into the park in the dark, or turn and walk towards them and the road. Thankfully they backed off once I turned around and started to walk towards them with Kody.

Unfortunately after that incident I do not feel safe walking through that park unless it is daylight now. Which is a shame as it was a really great walk for Kody and I. We have since found somewhere else to walk, however I do not enjoy the early morning walks like I used to, as it is still dark and I find I am on edge.

I hope that you and Shyla are able to shake this incident off and begin to enjoy your walks again.

  6. i used to do Kody in the bath but he hated it and so would try to climb out all the time. We would end up with hair and water everywhere!

I was stoked when I found the DIY hydrobath at the local car wash, so much easier!

I am lucky, he doesn't get smelly, so he only gets a wash when he has been up to no good and played neck deep in mud out at Mum and Dads. :o

  7. There are certain times/places when I don't allow it - two doors down from our house on our way home, in front of the outdoor dining area of the local hotel at lunch time, tiny nature strip in the middle of a busy road... in those cases he can wait a few minutes longer until we can reach a more appropriate area.

Not hard to stop, just say "no" when I see the change in his posture that signals he wants to go and keep walking, then when we reach a place where he can go I stop and let him

I carry bags so 99% of the time he goes when he needs to and I just pick it up. Wouldn't make him hold on for long unless absolutely necessary, it must be uncomfortable.

    Exactly.

I've been known to fast track it down the road dragging a sniffing dog with a puckering bum so that he doesn't drop at an awkward or inappropriate place but that's about it.

What's easily deposited is just as easily collected by a hooman hand in a plastic bag! :)

Yep I am the same. I never have a problem with Kody going in public as long as it is not out the front of an outdoor eatery etc and if he is looking like he needs to go then we run up a bit further to somewhere more appropriate and private.

Have you every tried to 'hold' it. It's very uncomfortable and I wouldn't want my dog to feel that way. I mean we are out on a walk to enjoy ourselves after all.

I always carry bags with me so it is no drama picking up after him (and I really despise those peeps who don't bother to pick up but that's another issue). I can't say I am particularly thrilled though when we have just headed out for a lengthy walk round the lake and he has to go. Means I get to carry a warm stinky bag for an hour and half, but hey it doesn't happen too often.

  8. Hi Lofty

I hope your boy is starting to feel better. It is absolutely awful when you have no idea what is making them feel unwell.

I know you have an appointment with your regular vet tomorrow, but in the meantime perhaps you could call the emergency vet and have a chat and see what they think? Is Cody taking water at all?

ETA perhaps you could try mixing the chicken broth in with his water? If he refuses plain water I would be taking him back to the emergency vet.

ETA again - Oh I just saw your post which states he isn't interested in the broth. Perhaps a phone call the vet would help. he has picked up by now and it's only a tummy upset.

I hope Cody picks up soon. xx

  9. SC it is wonderful to hear how well things are going with your new addition.

It is lovely that both Pepper and Tango are enjoying having Dylan even if he does like to tease them the little terror.

What a horrible fright you had this afternoon! I can only imagine how that would have felt.

So glad that no one was injured. Don't you just love how young pups just seem to bounce back so quickly? I mean he must have been exhausted but still had a reserve to do zoomies with Pepper!

I think you deserve a couple of stiff drinks given the afternoon you have had! ;)

Thanks for keeping us updated. It is lovely to read about the adventures.

  10. What a lovely surprise!

I am sure it is all very innocent and expect that you may make a new friend out of this fellow dog lover.

Unfortunately we do need to treat things with caution these days, such a sad fact. I would hold of feeding the goodies until you have a chance to meet your fellow dog admirer and get a gut feeling about them.

You will have update us if you get to meet the person!

  11. SpottyChick I just wanted to say what a wonderful job you are doing!

I have been following your thread in amazement and after reading your post re Rusty and Dylan's fun get together I am sitting here with a big grin on my face.

Certainly sounds like little Dylan has been welcomed in by Tango and Pepper and has really landed on his feet.

Great work so far, I bet you are pleased as punch.

Please keep letting us know how things are getting on.

Oh and you can never post enough photos of that cute little devil

  12. What a horrible act!

That poor young boy will be scared by the image of his best mate for life!

I can not believe the penalty this man got. $79! WTF! But then again why should I be surprised, no one seems to get an appropriate punishment when it comes to animal cruelty.

    RIP Mac.

  13. KM - which RC product did you feed your GSD?

Royal Canin GSD formula. The formula is meant to be good for sensitive skin, however Kody couldn't stop scratching whilst on it. Once I switched him to EP Holistic his itchiness settled completely, and his coat regained it's shine and softness.

  14. I had Kody on Royal Canin and he was extremely itchy. I ended up switching him to EP Holistic and haven't looked back.

Each dog is different and what one does well on another may not.

Best to try the food and see if it agrees with your dog. As it is a premium brand you can always exchange/return it if you are not happy.

I feed Kody about 3/4 of the feeding guidelines recommend for the dry food, plus he gets a bone (chuck or brisket) as well as a chicken wing in his Kong each day.

He has kept his weight stable on this amount of food.
