  1. You will never regret your breed choice :) I have had Newfs since 1986 and just can't be without one or more....lol

At the moment I only have 1 living with me, 4 year old Landseer Mason, who came all the way to Oz from France.

When we first started out, we did water training with our girl and carting with our boy.

Sue in Tassie is an excellent breeder :) Does all the relevant health checks and is a lovely person :)

Photo is of my boy at water training with the Newfoundland Club of Victoria :)

Edited to add - be ready for drool found everywhere, on your ceiling, windows, inside the car.....and hair....hair everywhere, have once found a Newfy hair in a newly opened frozen food pack!! lol You do get used to it though and barely notice the drool or hair after a while

  2. LOST 10 month old Golden Retriever. Disappeared from Nobelius Nursery on Emerald-Beaconsfield Road, Emerald (Victoria) at approximately 5pm this evening (28th Oct.). Her partner in crime returned to her owner at the park but 'Ava' did not. She is wearing a pink and blue collar and is a very light coloured Golden Retriever. Please contact Elizabeth on 0417 565 478 if you have seen her or have her.

Posting here to get the widest coverage, she will be terrified. Please share on your Facebook pages and anywhere else that you can think of.

  3. We received the same as you all, envelope with Gate Pass written on the back and catalogue slips for both shows, but only entered Champ Show. Gazette says one catalogue for both shows......

Anyway, I put the question about gate passes on Facebook and was told that the envelope with Gate Pass is the pass to get in. :)

  4. Brown Newfoundlands will always have a lighter eye, as dark as possible is better but some range from almost pale yellow to a dark amber.

Picture is my boy, who is recognised by a lot of exhibitors as having excellent eye colour for a brown.

In Newfoundlands I believe the darker eye is preferred to complete the sweet docile expression, a light eye can look 'stary' or 'harsh' sometimes in a dark coated dog.

  5. Sounds like you are doing, and have done, the best by your girl :) Sad to know of the problems she is having and I really hope and pray that she comes through just fine once her infection is cleared up.

Our club is having a Fun day/Xmas Party on the 25th November, if you are able to come along, you can chat to other Newfy owners there and share experiences etc....maybe someone there would have some ideas that could help her. You don't have to bring a dog to come along. I will PM you the details, just in case.

  6. I am so sorry to hear of the problems that you are having with your Newfoundland, It sounds very distressing for you all.

Can you PM me please the vet you used to keep on file.

I don't have much to offer you in regards to helping your girl except to ask if she is on any joint supplements? They really do seem to help and all puppies that leave here are to have joint supplements until 18 months of age and then again when they get to 6 or 7 years old. Ours are all on Bovine Collagen Powder, hard to get but have found it works the best. We also give MSM and Vitamin C along with a good Omega Oil. What food does she eat? How much does she weigh? If you haven't already, I would recommend getting her as thin as you can without starving her, sounds brutal but will help with her joints. Also no exercise where running or long walks are involved if possible, swimming is the best for joint recovery. You may already be doing all of this, but it can't hurt to let you know what we would do.

Newfs are very resilient, they cope with pain very well, I think a lot of the time, it hurts us much more than it hurts them.....

You can only do what you feel is best for your girl, and it will be the right decision.

Will keep sending positive vibes and thoughts for her to make a full recover, or get back to a happy pain free life.

While I understand your frustration and stress over this, please know that most breeders do breed with the very best of intentions and breed with stock that has passed all health tests to set a solid foundation. A very large % of Newfoundlands can and do still do what the breed was bred for. We are currently starting a Water rescue program with our club to let our dogs do what comes naturally.

Of course, with the very best breeding stock, sometimes problems still do arise, a breeder should be available for their buyers to support them and help them through any issues and I hope this is the case for you.

  7. We have imported from Germany (Via Netherlands) and from France. In the European countries, France is by far the most expensive, costing us way WAY over the prices given here for the flight, but this was for a 10 month old Newfoundland. Our German import was quarter of the price as she flew out from Amsterdam.

We used a shipper for both imports and they were wonderful, even sending photo's of each dog at their stopover via text message so we could see that they were OK.

We have not been charged extra for quarantine either time, just the bottom line of $1330 each dog.

Both my dogs could not come out before 9/10 months as they were cat 4 countries, but this suited us as we would not risk bringing in a 12 week old giant breed when so much can change/go wrong at that age. At 9/10 months we could be pretty assured of what we were getting.

I would not hesitate to import again (well maybe I would when I look at the bank balance...lol) but both dogs travelled well and are happy and healthy dogs.

  8. I am sure my Puppy Bars will fit your car! I have a Ford Escape, which is apparently exactly the same as the Tribute. Let me know if you want to check mine out, I am in Emerald, VIC.

I paid $605 for mine (price went up just after I got mine), have had mine only a few months.

Are you unhappy with them? Or changing vehicles?

Changing vehicles. Will definitely be getting Puppy Bars on the new car too, I love them!!

  10. The hold up was Group 1 judging.....almost double the amount of dogs in Group 1 than any other group. I didn't notice the Group 1 judge taking a lunch break, General Specials started immediately after Group 1 specials. Was a very long wait for those in other groups, was a nice day for it though...

  16. A few years ago, maybe 3 or 4, a pup of the same breed as mine was registered with my kennel name as it's name (after the prefix).....

I contacted Dogs VIC and asked that they revoke the name and make them chose another but their reply was that the name was fine as they had altered it slightly, they then told me that if they wanted, they could use my prefix as the registered name and just put a space somewhere in there and it would be accepted and I could do nothing about it. :mad

  19. We are desperately looking for a crate rack that goes onto the towbar/towball of the car.

We had one years ago that was great but lent it out and didn't get it back.

I am looking for one that can fold down when no crate is on it, so you can open the tailgate without having to remove the whole thing.

It needs to be able to hold a giant wire crate.

I know it's a long shot, but thought I'd see if anyone either has one for sale, or knows where I could get one made.....

    Thanks!
