  1. I cant imagine having your bitch whelping at a show - how stressful that must be for her, a public place - other dogs around - noise...their senses are so heightened during whelping - for some it must be terrible.

Stay Home - simple - the same bits of satin and glassware will be available the next weekend.

  2. I personally couldnt see the need for more than 4 litters from any 1 bitch. If she is such an excellent whelping bitch (as described above) then surely you would have at least 1 better young one from her to continue on with and if you cant get from her anything from 4 litters, then maybe she just isnt a producer.

One of our best producing bitch has had 2 litters and from that has given us 3 lovely bitches to continue on with (better than herself) and 2 boys to use later on - what more does she need to do ?? Our English Imported bitch had 1 litter before contracting pyo (sadly) but still from her 3 beauties, so all wasnt lost and no need for 4, 5 or 6 litters.

  3. WA facilities by a mile and NSW for the variety and centralness to Vic and QLD. WA and Tas and to a lesser extent SA, if someone in your breed has a dog or dogs that dominate there is no escaping - 1 show on any given weekend. Whereas in NSW and Vic you can go show elsewhere if you choose, some enter both options and see who is entered - we saw in NSW someone turn up look who was there and get in there car and go to the other show !! lol

Best grounds in Tassie - IMO Ulverstone once the toilets get a revamp and love the after Royal Show at New Norfolk.

  4. Well I have been showing Staffordshire Bull Terriers now for 24 years and my French Bulldog baby (4mths) does BIG tantrums on the lead lol my own fault he is so very spoiled  Dont feel embarassed the penny will drop - baby puppy classes IMO are for them to have fun, they are a long time in the Open Class. There is photographic evidence on Facebook of my boys tantrums....ooops !

Although I will confess to some 5min training classes this week after work - hubby is showing him this weekend while I am away judging

Good luck with you baby and most of all ENJOY.

  5. Oh well it will be interesting ... I personally dont think we will see it offered alot here in Tas as there is traditionally very little support of the neuter classes....but I have a couple of neuters at the ready and have threatened my old GRCH boy if he doesnt pull his head in lol

  6. Is it printed in the schedules that the classes count for Neuter points, at shows where only classes 18 and 18a are offered ? This means the neuters of all ages would be lumped in together - only one class for dogs and only one class for bitches. My understanding was that for clubs making the neuter points available under the new system - the format was as Spikepuppy has cut and paste with the full range of classes and judged class winners against each other for Neuter Challenge exactly as the entire classes are judged - otherwise it is just a neuter class as has been traditionally offered with no points >>??

Just my understanding of the new system.

  7. A coat spray does do something Sandra it makes abit of shine - it doesnt change a colour or alter the dogs natural make in any way, it just brings out abit of already existing gloss. A dull unconditioned coat wont shine no matter what you put on it. I suppose an example of applying something to deceive is colouring a dudley nose or black chalk or dye on a B&T, applied with the intention of deceiving the judge and altering the dog.

I guess deceive is to apply product to correct a fault or imperfection - whether you add coat spray or not makes no difference to the dogs faults or virtues imo its just abit of showbiz, much like whether the handler wears a suit or tracky dacks.....just the presentation. I like to bath the dogs for every show, add abit of coat spray and I wear a suit - I dont trim whiskers but I do trim tails...my personal opinion and not hurting anyone else.

  8. hmmm, well since you're not allowed to use any artifical substance on a dog's coat I'm sure you never saw this :( You can buy these things at the show caravans at the grounds, but to start with good food, a bath, a polish with a piece of soft cloth and a rub over with your hands will probably do. What colour is your dog? The whites and reds never look as shiny as the blacks and brindles.

Hi Sandra we are actually allowed to use a coat spray in Tasmania - we are only not allowed to use anything that alters or changes the appearance.

  9. I hope if the Stafford clubs ever get their act together, to form an NBC, that they only move to hold Nationals every third or other year - as it is now we get 200 or so entries to normal club specialties so would be good to not have one every 5mins and make it that bit more of an event.

  10. RIP Ashke

    Sympathies to yourself and family.

My husband Geoff judged this wonderful Rottweiler and came home and it was all he could talk about !

    Warm Regards

  11. As someone who does continuously travel from Tasmania for breed shows, it does cost alot of money to get away. Just to get to even footing with our mainland counterparts without then the drive to wherever the show is after that. It isnt just a matter of hopping in the car its a ferry or a plane trip - I really dont think the 1000klm rule has this in mind. I understand what the rule is trying to achieve - to stop the easy CC National weekend....but Tasmanian exhibitors are really hamstrung by this rule as the 1000klm trip is not the same for us as for other states.

As I mentioned we travel regularly to the mainland and will continue to - we save to do at least 2 trips a year and I have no doubt that we would show at a National if there was one for our breed....BUT I still feel the rule being applied to Tasmania is not the same comparison as for a normal neighbouring state.

  12. In Tas we have Reserve Challenge certificates available on request at all shows. From a secretaries point of view it doesnt cost the earth, nor take much time to write up and it might just make the show experience abit nicer for a new exhibitor to receive one, especially if the "show buddy" is a child as Liz T says. If you get 4 people at 1 show that come and request them you would be lucky but for those 4 people to come back and show again, its worth the effort.

Well done on your win !! :o

  13. The only time a blue can have a black nose is when it is associated with the greying gene, rather than the dilute. Kerry Blue Terriers are one example who have dark / black pigment but again, they arent dilutes.

I can honestly say the best blue I have seen in Aus (agreeing with others) is Koendidda Blue Diamond and I had to look twice to see if she really was blue...the difference is she was bred for conformation NOT colour !

  14. I think the breeders did the right thing for sure in keeping puppy home if he is not well, but where there are kids involved it wouldnt have killed them to touch base and let you know what was happening (even with a couple of 2 second emails). I am always mindful of communicating with new puppy people especially where I know there are little people involved who are so excited about the prospect of a new puppy.
