  1. ;)

Thank you all for your replies!

I've got an appointment at the vet for Wednesday, i have a trainer traveling 5 hours on Tuesday to come assess him, and am working on a muzzle!

Until I've had his assessed I'm not going to let him off leash, nor on leash, or have him near the kids. His an outside dog so the kids are safe inside. It's not just my daughter he doesn't let near me, he stands in between myself any anyone, it is just more noticeable with her because she is always with me, it's not in an aggressive way (no growling or barking) he just simply creates a barrier between everyone and myself (I'm most definitely not making excuses for him, this behavior is unacceptable). Again this has only recently started,

he used to follow my son around like a shadow, but with my son starting school this year his not outside as much so i think his just taken to me more.

I dread the words the trainer and vet may say, but if it is him or my children there is obviously no choice.

this could be the key or part of it to the change in his behaviour, over the nest few days try to wright down any changes in your routine that will also help the trainer to help you. Take care M

  2. I feel like my dogs need to be around other dogs more. They do have three dogs they regularly hang out woth, but recently two of those moved away.

When we go for a walk most of the time we don't see a single other dog (apart maybe from offlead dogs that aren't friendly).

I don't feel that they need to be playing with other dogs, just hanging out a bit more with other dogs.

So I thought maybe I could advertise to see if anyone in my suburb would be interested in meeting up for a weekly walk.

But I can see that this could create its own problems, with people who maybe don't very friendly dogs, or don't control their dogs properly which could cause real trouble.

On the other hand maybe it would all work out well. Dogs would get the opportunity to be around other dogs; maybe it would encourage some owners to walk their dogs.

Actually I can imagine advertising and getting no responses at all.

Anyway i just wanted to see what other people think of this idea, whether you think its likely to be a disaster, or whether there are ways I can make it work?

Hi, I found dogtree.com.au a good way to meet people in your area to walk and talk with :)

  3. hello, I have a 21mth old desexed boy that has shown fear aggression since he arrived in our home at 14 weeks, I have exlpored many avenues to overcome his fear, clicker training with a Delta puppyschool, books, a Jan Fennell trainer, behaviouralist's another trainer and hours of pratice, we have made a great deal of progress but I have not been able to overcome his lunging and barking at other dogs, joggers pretty much anything that runs when we are walking, to the point I walk him when I know the streets and parks will be empty. Recently through talking with a trainer I had a light bulb moment that has lead me to beleive that he just does not feel safe with me and as I have seen him work with a trainer and he is a different dog and it's so upseting that I cannot achive the same level of trust that they can. He is a very smart boy and will allways test me and I feel I'm not experienced enough to pick up on these moments which then reinforces his defenceive behaviour. Through talking with someone who also had a fear aggressive dog and contacting the trainer they used and talking with them about our problems they suggested dog training and boarding so I've been checking out their site and so far it looks like they might have what I'm missing and I thought you might want to have a look as well, their videos are impressive and I'll aslo pay them a visit and maybe try and talk with some of their past clients, if your interested it's Alpha Boarding Kennels and you click on Boarding School for Dogs and that is where you will find the videos. If there is anyone who reads this and has used them or knows of them I'd love your feedback, they also have an interstate program, they are located in Victoria. I hope this helps us both, all the best, Lou

  4. Yep, they're pretty fast, and those boys aren't especially fast for whippets. Until recently their mum Penny could run them down, and little Feather could beat them in a straight line too. I've had whippets for over 25 years now, and I still never tire of watching them run.

    Thanks for looking.

I loved watching them run, great video and Feathers retreat, sensible girl. :o Marianne

  5. The litter was 2 girls & 3 boys. All going well. Will post some photos soon. Glad to read Charlie's doing so well.

Just saw the puppies on the puppy page, give them a cuddle from me and I know you'll find the best homes for them

  6. 3 girls & 2 boys all shades of cream, 1 boy with a chocolate face. Will post pics next week

cute, hope the boy turns out to be show quality :D will break the girls up abit LOL

how are the babies going? charlie has made friends with my sisters aussie, they had the best run on the beach though charlie was the only dog to go in swimming he just loves it

  7. I think it's time I introduced Charlie to this thread. Charlie is one year old and a Lagotto,he has had a rough start to domestic life but is now finding that humans aren't to bad and we are working on the last of his bad behaviour.

After all that we have been through together I can't stress enough just how important it is to find and meet the breeder and their dogs and to see how they are housed and cared for as these dogs need to be handled and socialized from day one in my opinion or as with any dog you can have a lots of problems.

Charlie is very clever and loves to learn but needs to be trained with a confident,no nonsense approach and lots of praise and he's yours, he needs lots of things to do as he's thinkng all the time and lets face it there's nothing better than digging the worlds biggest hole if you haven't had enough games, walks and swims :) .Charlie loves nothing better than to swim,at the beach he will swim out 200meters and swim for up to half an hour without coming in,they are such strong little dogs with buckets of engery so we are getting very fit :grouphug: ,he also loves to travel in the car and often comes along just for the ride.

happy to chat about this very beautiful breed M :)
