  1. Thanks guys. Yes it certainly tops my only litter last year. Lost whole litter at day 52 to an unknown infection. It is very disheartening.....until all those little puppas are snuffling at you.
  2. We had puppies born in the early hours of this morning. It was an awful ordeal for my girl Indi, who ended up with huge stuck puppies. We ended up at the emergency after hours vet an hour away. I had to take the kids, 2, 4 and 8, as OH was at work and couldn't leave (as he was the supervisor). The first pups head was stuck, and was eventually removed as we were on the verge of a c-section. I was shocked to find that it was still alive. Pups 2 and 3 were born naturally, and were also enormous. 3 was alittle slow to get breathingNumber 4 had to be removed by the vet and took 15 mins to get breathing. (excellent vet) Number 5 was breach, and stuck. Took 2 vets to get it out, but could not be revived. Last 2 by c-section, one saved, the other not as the placenta had ruptured. Uterus had also ruptured so this is Indi's first and last litter. She is by far my nicest dog, so that is a little disappointing, but at least she is ok. So we have 5 black puppies. 3 girls, 2 boys. 1 girl and 1 boy lost. All weighing over 500g. Mum took a while with the pups, but is now doing an excellent job with them, and they are all feeding well. Been up since 6am Sat, so I'm buggered.
  3. RIP Pheobe. Sorry for your loss Kirty.
  4. I'm sorry to hear things got off to a rough start :p Glad the rest went smoothly for you! x2
  5. My pup had it, but it was not a severe case. Vet suggested the wait and see till after her first heat, and it helped. She did not get any UTI's though. Also - what espinay said.
  6. Skyehaven litter is actually Poweron litter (not mine) 7 boys 6 girls. Sadley one girl died overnight. That is a huge litter! RIP little girl who didn't make it.
  7. This could be my girl in the pics, she looks identical to Indi! Even the colouring is pretty close! We are day 61, and I'm getting very impatient. Temp is gradually getting a bit lower each day, but no big drop. Hurry up! Poor Indi can hardly drag herself around anymore.
  8. I agree you need to be tough with your dog, and teach him that you are the boss, not the waitress! As a side note, as the owner of 4 Labradors, I find these type of threads hard to relate to. There is no such thing as not eating here. Food is gone in 3 seconds (even a decent bone usually doesn't survive past a minute or 2!), and there has never been such a thought as left over food! I even had one guts who swallowed a turkey neck without chewing (very ouch and scary )because he was so concerned that an imaginary rival might try to take it from him. Said dog also got banned from dry because he literally inhaled his food and choked any time he was fed it. In the end it comes down to whatever works for the individual dog. Edit for clarity.
  9. I used Lavelle for the first time for two of mine due to Wyburn being ill. I was very happy with everything, especially the speed which I received the paperwork back. My vet did not know Wyburn was out of action either, and did not believe that DOL was the source of the info.
  10. Gorgeous and adorable hehe. Is Cadbury a fairly common name for a chocolate lab? My OH said if i got one he thinks i should name him coco . I really want one now its gonna be hard choosing my puppy when i eventually get one it will either be a GSD or Choc lab haha Yes! A lot of choc labs have very stereotypical names. The 5 week old pup above is Coco! I have also come across Lindt, Hershey, Milo etc. My choc baby (the one in the first pic) is Lyla But, if you like the name, why not?
  11. 2 gorgeous chocs! ETA: 9 months and 5 wks for above puppies
  12. I have been waiting all month, and my bitches daughter has come on instead! Hoping that will trigger hers.
  13. Megz - you've convinced me with your Beagle pics! All the puppies are so cute. But... Puppy + head tilt = guaranteed cuteness!
  14. Labbie puppies of course! Also Lappies, JS, Aussie Sheps and Berners. Love berner puppies... I have noticed that berner puppies are giving the choccy labs a run for their money on the 2 dollar cards! (which I might have bought a few of just for the cuteness factor ) ;) ;)
  15. My first 10 choices were rejected. I was then required to submit a further 20. I am happy with what I have luckily, but it was a nightmare trying to come up with all those names. ETA: That was in 2007.
  16. Woohoo! We have CONFIRMED pregnancy!!! 6 - 9 according to the vet. Lucky it will be in the school hols. Congrats to all those also confirmed.
  17. Same here. Not that dry is a large part of their diet. ETA: I have labs.
  18. Basically they are puppy farming if they are only registering every second litter. You are only allowed one litter per year per bitch, or if there is 2 litters in 1 year, the bitch must not be bred from in the following year. Ie: the bitch must be rested at least every 2nd season. By registering only every second litter, they fly under the radar. Every pup in each litter must be registered. I fail to see why you would exclude any pups when registering the litter, as it is not an excessive cost in the scheme of things. I don't understand why you would bother to remain a registered breeder if you BYB as well.
  19. Labradors due hopefully around the 9th. Wasn't going to post as I didn't want to get ahead of myself!
  20. I agree with a fair percentage of cattle dog. Based on the first pic with the white tip on the tail, I'll add some beagle to that too. (I have no idea if any other breeds carry this trait! )
  21. I send presents to some of my puppies, but I am in regular contact with them, and they are crazy dog people like us! I sent them xmas emails too. I would just send a card, e-card, or email, so you are acknowledging them. That way you open the door for anyone who wants to regain contact with you without coming across as pushy or creepy (to use someone elses term) It is probably not an accurate representation of joe public to ask your question on here as I would guess that 99% of us would agree with you. (a bit OT, but on the radio yesterday they were discussing pets with facebook pages. i have quite a few doggy friends, and I'm sure it's not percieved as weird to DOLers, but the majority of the public ringing in just thought it was weird and the owners were loony!) Just do whatever you are comfortable with.
  22. We have 4 and live on an acre and manage easily. They are labs and all get on well and are easy going. They usually play non stop so wear each other out so I don't have to be pedantic about exercising them, but I am at home most of the time anyway. I could easily manage more girls, it is the entire males that become PITA at times. We are moving to 8 acres soon, so I will probably keep 1 or 2 pups (girls) this year depending on what pops out!. My eldest dog is 4, so all are young and healthy at the moment. I think having an ill or special needs dog would limit the number you could adequately cope with.
