  1. thank you, i have a feeling the treats for training would be my problem then hahaha whoops cabanossi, cheese and chicken..bugger might start to use more tug toys! as they do not get any extra treats ever or fed high fat content foods and only 2 cups quality premium dry with either some raw meat or bones for some meals plus added fish and vitamins or veggies.

can say now it is warming up a good swim will be great, i use to do bike riding with them but the roads would cut up their paws.

thanks common sense comes to the rescue

  2. dog 1 is scared of : thunder, crackers, but loves vaccum cleaners, blenders, and motor bikes, which i don't get

Dog 2 scared of: any type of electric wheelchair, prams, and kids OMG but loves motor bikes and lawnmowers... my dogs have there noises confused haha

ETA dog two also: mortified of black Newfoundlands.

  3. Hi every one i rescued a very young pup, i do not have an exact age as he grows so quick i can only assume he is 3.5 weeks to 5 weeks old.

he is a big mouther, and biter (latches on with his toothy pegs)

i want to correct him when he bites to hard and holds but he does not respond to squeels, i have a feeling he has not been in a pack environment for long.

my dogs don't really want anything to do with him and just walk away, my older girl has told him off once for getting in her face, just wondering what actions i can/should mimmic to bring this dog up to learn the correct social skills. so when he is in a pack environment he can read body language and other dogs signals to approach correctly and understand when to back off. any ideas ?

  4. can tell you, i got my second dog wayy to early and he has fear dog aggression caused by not staying within his litter to learn how to properly socialise and learn with them, he came home to another dog and they get on fine but other bigger, dominant dogs he cannot handle in his face. not something i would care for again hope you find a solution.

  5. well here is Poppy and just look at her now !

For those who don't know, this female bull terrier (now named Poppy) was found abandoned in the middle of a hunter bush emaciated, burnt and and a poor soul left to die .

It have been seven weeks and and we now have a new dog who is looking for a forever home !!!

if you think you can give poppy a forever home jump onto www.dogrescuenewcastle.com.au and search for Poppy!

Poppy is a beautiful, purebred Bull Terrier available for adoption from Dog Rescue Newcastle She's is approximately 2 years old and about 15kg. She LOVES people and is very friendly. Poppy needs a family with some experience with dogs. She is young and quick to learn but needs firm leadership to get the best from her. She wouldn't be suited to a family with very young children (only because she can be a bit clumsy) or other pets. A yard check and ID check will be required. Please read Poppy's full profile at http://www.petrescue...au/view/115348 and see more photos at http://tinyurl.com/dogsnew If you would like to give Poppy a loving home, please contact Catherine on 0458-422-157 or email: [email protected]

  6. hahah you are in the same pickle as me i have use both the kibbles, pro plan and holistic,, i found the Pro plan S.S and Stomach one put a lot more weight on my dogs than the hol anch, sal kibble but i found both really good minus the price. they are currently on holistic and are doing really well on it and coats are doing great too.

  7. the whole this is this dog was with me before being re-homed and he was a true working dog through and through bred for it too, i have had him off lead at a park near a busy road and large car park many times no problems i have had him at the beach and i was the only thing he was interested in, recall was nearly perfect every call, minus him rounding up birds a few times. and he showed no interest in cars, only the chuck it stick and fetching. he is not a soft dog and would be a top working dog with herding, but they would only use positive methods in which i don't think would work not talking about hitting or anything aha but a quick check i think would help him to take them seriously.

  8. you deffinately have a part kelpie, sounds like my girl, as you stop patting her she demands more by wooing and making crazy noises + softly and putting her paw out on you until you keep patting they are very persistant and demanding i find when they want to do something.

also i notice when she eats something slimy or yummy after she has eaten she will rub her face on the carpet or her bed making same noises and growling in plesure ahah.

and face pulling is part of it.

  9. oh deffinatly, i have one DA dog and one social dog, the mean dog stay's well away from any off lead areas partly because of the what if's, we are going to leave this park alone my girl and myself don't need to be put in any harm. i wouldn't have the conscience to sue someone that much money for an accident, hell i would be bankrupt lol 30 k is a lot of money to a single person.

that last post helped a lot thank you, it is always good to know what you can and can't do and to know what to avoid :D ta

  10. This might sort of help.....or not

We were talking in class one day about general good manners around other dogs & people, and one client told the class about an incident that happened to them.

Their *insert typcally gentle family dog here* bolted out the front door & down the driveway one morning. It made no contact at all with a lady walking her dog on the path, but startled her. In her panic, she tripped over her own dogs leash & fell over & broke her arm, and successfully sued the family for $30,000.

OUCHH! woah keep stories coming would hate to be in that position!

  11. this must sound like the dumbest thing to many people on here but here it goes haha

when it comes to anything legal i have no clue i am young and keeping up with legal proceedings in't my cup of tea to follow, this isn't happening to me nor am i sueing anybody  but i would like to have some back ground info because i visit parks a lot where other people have been attacked recently, if it were to happen about irrisponible dog owners and attacks as such.

Can you Sue for these, and if so under what circumstances for all?

*if a dog attacks a human unprovoked, human gets hurt blood is drawn?

*Dog bails up human unprovoked, no one is hurt?

*Dog attacks human provoked, human gets hurt?

*Dog attacks another dog, unprovoked, dog gets hurt, what happens?

*Dog attacks another dog unprovoked, dog doesn't get hurt? MAIN one wanted

  12. hi guys so far she is safe in newcastle! :cheer::cheer:

    "Dog Rescue Newcastle"

The burned bully has gone to an experienced carer who will give her lots of TLC. (TN)

thank you all who have spread the word you kindness is truley appreciated!

i will keep this updated when more news comes in and as she gets better! :whee:

thanks again to those wonderful people who offered help and donations.

  13. This sweet girl has burns all over her body tail and face included.

Burns from what who knows?? but i hope the previous owner gets karma.

She has lost a lot of her white coat she has just come into rescue care this afternoon, and she is in terrible need of a foster carer who knows bully breeds, as she is a resource guarder to other dogs but lets humans feed her and we are unsure of how she is with other dogs except through a small pen and we don't have the facilities to keep her here safely and our other dogs safe as she can jump over the 1 M tall pen, we have the TLC part but cannot care for her the way i would like. we have as we normally take puppies and small dogs, due to lack of food and care she is terrible thin ribs and spin are sticking out so needs a good fattening up and scabs everywhere.

If you have a kind heart and some patience for this baby who just loves humans, and pats and cuddles despite her trama, can you give DOG RESCUE NEWCASTLE A CALL!

or PM imediately located in NSW newcastle can transport her small way if needed.

  14. thanks westiemum i didn't even read it after i posted ahha silly me.

copy paste and print that info to keep on hand.

i might go the wholey hog when i get some more cash in hand buy oatmeal medium sized kibble for half or one whole meal.

buy pumkin, sweet pot, carrot, beans, broc, celery, pasta, brown rice, spin, garlic

par boil or steam as my processor is piss weak.

add egg's, kelp powder, whole flax seeds, cottage cheese or natural youg,

and blend two types? with with the chicken carcass grounded and roo mince if cheap enough and brisket bones for one/two dogs

can i add / take away anything, also how much do you make to last you, few weeks month or two?

  15. thanks guys, i have done home made barf's before with roo mince as they do really well on it but they didn't like my recipe  i think i put to much veg n fruit in, but i cannot rememeber how much it cost me :S but it was basically roo mince with veggies of all sorts and fruit chopped and blended together then frozen in containers.

how much meat to veg + other would i use.

one dog doesn't eat bones of any sort, where as the other boy would get a brisket bone for breakie. where casn you buy grounded chicken carcasses?

  16. for a box of 12 roo patties here it is about 20-23 dollars

which lasts me about 4 days 4x patties per day for 2 dogs around the 25 kg mark one each morning one each at night.

now that for me is too expensive!~ to be doing for the rest of there lives,

all i can think of doing is giving kibble in the morning, and BARF at night but even them it is still expensive.

what is the equivilant price of home made??

how long does it last you for what sized dogs??

    and easy recipes please?

    ideas welcome

  17. proof a good recall, if you can catch the dog in the act to tell it a firm no, it could work and bring him away via it's collar immediately then let him go a few meters away or change the dogs attention to something more fun and distracting like a game of fetch or tug, clicker training would be great to learn for outside.

Don't pick him up he will think that barking could be associated with cuddles when it shouldn't and could possibly aggrivate the situation when he is barking to bark more. if you have to grab your pup a lead attached then guide him inside to settle and let the pup back out.

you can even teach him to speak and quiet but it would take some practice and could make it worse in some circumstance haha.

  18. Here's the recipe I use - its for a Thermomix but will give you a good idea:

    Ingredients:

1/2 kg vegetables (carrots, celery, spinach, cauli, broccoli etc), roughly chopped

1/2kg lean meat or mince (beef, chicken, lamb, pork, kangaroo etc). ('Roo and pork are good for dogs with allergies).

1/8 lambs fry (or similar amount of other offal), roughly chopped

1/4 small tub plain, low fat yogurt

    1-2 free range eggs (I use 2)

    2 cloves garlic

    1.5 dspns flax seed oil

1/2 tspn of vitamin B powder

Up to 2 tspns kelp powder (I use 2)

Any other healthy food scraps eg small amounts of cooked veggies, rice, pasta cottage cheese etc.

    Method:

If mincing your own meat, mince it first for 8-15 seconds on speed 7 and set aside.

Chop veggies, garlic and offal in TMX for 6-8 seconds on speed 4 or until it looks like fine coleslaw. Veggie mix should be well chopped, fine enough to make into patties, but not mush.

Add mince and all other ingredients and mix on reverse + soft speed for 8 - 10 seconds until well combined.

Shape into patties and freeze or freeze in serving size portions in plastic bags. Thaw as required.

do you find doing that saves more money then buying the actual BARF diet from the pet stores ?
