  1. I have to wonder about dogs that 'attack' their owners (or maybe more precicely what the owners have done to the dogs). I can't imagine my own dogs doing it to me. Even if I was doing something to hurt or provoke them I wouldn't expect more than a warning growl or snap (and I it would take ALOT to even get that), certainly not a mauling.

My dogs are the same, i trust them with my life

There's got to be more to it, but once again the media and po-po will twist and contort the story to suit themselves

  2. My OH, as some may know, is NOT a dog person. I have complained about it before- he is not even ambivalent, he just doesnt like dogs :D .

WHAT?? :) i think you better get him checked out, he could have a serious problem.

LOL Its great that he's really warmed to goldies, they are hard not too, now just introduce him to a few other breeds and he'll falll in love with them all.

My father hated horses, i then got an australian pony, after that it was australian ponies or nothing, unfortunalty my legs were a bit long and ponies don't do too well in b grade showjumping. I soon bought a TB, dad now loves all horses and he's dangerous to take anywhere near them, if he had it his way we would have them in our back yard (his argument is that our yard is 3 acres), he has a serious soft spot for mistreated animals, i'll never forget the day at a show when we had an extra in our float as dad and a friend bought a horse for $50 as it was being bashed by his owner. And thats from someone who hates horses.

Hang in there, your hubby will come around

  3. Signed, Jed got me too, i thought it was going to be a scared dog injured while running from fireworks.

Bring back capital punishment or send them to a remote island, they do it to refugees who are looking for a new home, so why not those who deserve it.

Posted on FB and another website

  4. I've done similar with Peg when it comes to food, she has to wait for a signal before she can eat, I also do it with treats.

Try a noise, maybe a squeaky toy, or slap your thigh, it might be enough to break his focus and bring it back to you.

Peg has simlar issues with getting distracted, mainly recall, 9 out of 10 times she will come back no dramas but that 1 time she ignores me, I found a squeaky toy in my pocket snaps her attention back to me, i squeak, call/whistle, then reward with a piece of chicken, it has worked really well with her.

  6. but common sense must prevail.

Unfortunatly common sense isn't that common anymore.

We as dog owners have a resposibility to control and train our dogs, what i can't understand is why some parents can't seem to do the same with their kids, it might sound like i'm a total kid hater (i'm kidless and happy about it), but really some people need to use their brains, its obvious that they are in a dog park, keep your kids, food, nanna's out of harms way, it's not that hard.

  7. As its been said working dogs want to work. Horses are the same, try getting 800kg of race horse to go to work if it doesn't want to...you won't, i've tried, failed sent him to a dressage home and he's now a fat, happy very spoilt champ, the bugger gets around in rugs that are worth more than my car.

I personally think the RSPCA is getting further and further out of line, it seems that they are now more interested in making lives difficult and becoming nazis than doing what they advocate, they constiantly complain and campain for money, yet they seem to be spending it on unjust causes such as these.

Is there anyone on here that is in Canberra that can make it to the senimar?

  8. Remember that one of the things on the RSPCA priority wish list was that it wants to have control over dog training and dog trainers. I can't remember if that was the Australian RSPCA wish list or the Victorian one. Point being, it was there.

Not a welcoming thought, goodbye dog parks, trials, shows. Whats next, are they going to try and stop bees for producing honey?

  9. cat enclosures are the way to go, my boyfriend made a portable/colapsable enclosure for his cat as he travels for work, Steelo loves it, she knows the Monday morning it's in the ute (the ute has a conopy) and she then has her run to go in during the week, he took her to the beach in it last week, and then Friday its come home and make me sneeze all weekend

  10. I'm with you on oh oh.

The training of my dogs, Peg especially has improved her life incredibly, if it wasn't for training she'd be sleeping outside in a kennel instead of infront of the fire for one example.

I'm beginning to think that the RSPCA is getting more and more out of hand.

  11. Just reminds me, poor Gus seems to attract the wrong sort of attention when I take him out because of how he looks. So in the spirit of the Shonky Christmas Puppies thread, I decided to give him a full and magnificent breed title:

Ch. Grouse Dog Mate, Bet He's Fully Sick for Rabbits.

I could call Peg the same, had one dero ask if i would swap her for his kid as she would breed great hunting dogs, i quickly replied, sorry i don't like kids, they smell funny

  12. The lack of brain cells in some people really amaze me. But Jed that is a cracka

I was at my local bar talking with the owner about my dog, and a random came into the conversation and asked about her breed, then said i've got an amstaff we should get together so our dogs can breed wtf? i asked why? she's a crossbreed, i don't want pups and she's desexed anyway. He then went on to say that i would make heaps of money and how would i know for sure if she was desexed, i might add that by this point i was struggling to contain myself from laughing in his face, i said that i took her to the vet, picked her up from the vet, took the stiches out and the scar on her belly, microchip in the back and tattoo in her ear are enough proof for me. The guy still managed to come up with, well how do you know your vet did the right operation?

By this point the bar owner jumped in before i shoved my rum can down his throat

  13. i saw this on the news and nearly flattened my tv, it's beyond me how anyone could do this, I feel bad enough leaving the dogs at home while i go to work, if i'm just going to the shops they come to cause i hate the thought of them being home alone (yes i know they will be fine), but we have dogs for life, how the hell anyone can think otherwise is beyond me.

Would they dump their kids when they had enough of them?

  14. i like to smash her against the wall...and hold that man under the water on a leash...wow...that sounds really harsh isn't it?

 To bad l felt the same :cry: B********S

    DITTO !!!!

Don't feel bad, did these people feel bad doing what they did? I doubt it, i would like to meet both these people in a dark ally.

This is becoming more and more common, some people really don't deserve to live, don't mean to be harsh, but in cases like these, eye for an eye. We don't need scum like this walking our streets :rofl:

  15. Its been standard practice in tassie for some time now, Peg and Blue both have tatts.

The tattoo is done while the animal is still under, its isn't like the traditional tattoos done with a machine and needle, so it is done very quickly.

That said, with microchips now i'm not 100% sure if its necessary, I like the idea of being able to look in the ear, but its my understanding that if a dog is picked up the pound/RSPCA will scan for a chip before doing anything else.

  16. Somebody please shoot me before I explode and try to hit one of them on the head.

You're not the only one ready to hit people on the head, i don't know how many times have had people, mostly random people off the street, ask me if i wanted to breed Peg.. my first question is normally why? followed by SHE'S A BLOODY CROSSBREED!!

Some people just don't get it, they often ask why i got her desexed, i've always thought that was pretty obvious. When they ask about pups i used to launch into a massive rant about how it is unfair on her, a waste of time and money, and that if they want a pup go to the shelter, there's heaps of dogs up there like Peg, now i don't bother, i just say you're too stupid to have a dog and Peg doesn't want pups
