DO NOT use headphones
wish I had read this before I listened to it. I always have my headphones so not to disturb my OH as the computers are next to each other.
It made all the hair on my arms stand up and I hit the mute button before it finished
Damn scary noise whatever it is, you could sell it as a sound effect in a horror movie.

I love love love this show! Hope they release the series on DVD :)
Yes me too seeing as I've forgotten to watch every single show except one. How does one find out?
you can watch the previous two episodes on abc iview, I've watched them all that way, I always seem to be on the phone on Wednesday nights and just watched the SAfrican episode this morning. Interesting program. but on facebook there is a huge back last re the first episode at the Lost Dogs Home about how inappropriate it was to make the girl see a dog put down. Does anyone feel that there seems to be more badly behaved dogs because there are more badly behaved kids today, spoilt with no discipline and expected everything on a plate. Ok putting fire suit on.

What a stupid woman. If the dogs had not been with him anything could have happened. They were the best protection he could have had. I would be so grateful to those dogs for staying with my boy if I was dumb enough to lose them all in the first place.
Unreal ,callous & uncalled for. Why even think it let alone say it.
Agree.
I get the feeling the woman is actually blaming the dogs for the child going off??? ....so glad the kid is okay.
She said (I think) on today this morning that the dogs ran out of the open gate and the little boy followed. I personally found the whole thing odd watching it this morning. The way she was acting and things she was saying were just interesting for someone who's disabled son had wandered off :/
I also saw her on the Today show this morning, and at first was just happy seeing her reunited. Then I too thought she made some very strange comment, one minute blaming the dogs, the next saying her son is a known "Runner", I think the dogs followed him rather than the other way around and thank goodness they did, but I also wouldn't judge someone for stupid things they say under emotional circumstances and with cameras pointed at them, she may have been just rattling off anything without thinking or meaning what she said.

How disappointing for you. I can understand that you would be mighty unimpressed and it has probably put you off house sitters.
We have had our pets and home looked after several times by house sitters. We started that instead of kennels when our old boy was becoming disorientated and needed to stay in a familiar environment. So far, we have used three different families. We have had one small problem but it was quickly resolved with some communication. We still keep in touch with all of them and they visit us if they're passing through. We have a new dog now who has some issues that still need some ongoing management. I would be confident that my instructions in relation to his issues would be followed by any of the three families who have stayed at our place. We would discuss his needs and if I thought they weren't able to understand (it's not terribly tricky) or if they thought they knew better, they wouldn't be welcome in our home.
Tintin Jac, can you please pass on details in a pm of your house sitters. Mostly my other half and I have to take separate holidays, because one of us has to stay for the animals as we have both dogs and cats. Quite a few of the kennels wont take NON desexed cats, I breed and show my cats as well as dogs, so of course they are not desexed and the males cannot ever be housed together.
When I was quite a bit younger I used to do house sitting myself, only ever in houses with animals to be looked after, mostly other show dog owners. I would never have gone against the rules laid down, and did used to prefer that as much was written down as possible, I could tell some stories from the other side too. But I do believe that most of the dogs were really quite content, getting the same food as they were used to and in their home environment. Some barely acknowledged their owners return. Personally I think if you get good pet sitters it is better for the dogs and most definitely for cats, but the emphasis on the good.
To the OP, I would speak to the sitters you had and explain you are not happy with what you have been told and the reasons why. I will make you feel better and perhaps make them safer house sitters for the next person with pets.

I've done one session of shooting at a show. I tried to find a view that was going to allow me to get the dog and handler at their best and get down low. I used Av setting but have been playing around with TAv since then and I'll be sticking with that. I used an 80-200, f around 8 I think and shutter 640 or above (might have been higher). Here's a few of mine http://www.flickr.com/photos/81363891@N04/
I love the dachie pic, thanks heaps for the info on the settings. I will try playing around with mine a bit more now too.

Long time ago we had a Goat plus Shelties living on a suburban block in Maribyrnong and used to walk along the river with the goat on lead and 2 Shelties. Best comment ever was "Ahhh look at the baby Lassies and the ba lamb" and "what sort of dog is that"

I have just been checking some shows etc and one show stuck out for a service they are offering...
The club is going to be marking out 3x3 spots around the ring, these are offered to people who are entered at the show - I have many questions..
Can they do that, would you pay for a reserved spot for a breed specific show or an All Breeds Show, does this contravene the regulation about setting up prior to a show etc.
The club will be marking out spaces to ensure exhibitors don't hog huge areas in the front row and was informed by the VCA that for National Shows that it is ok to do so. We wont be charging a fee, As areas will be marked out for, a "seating only" at ringside and for a very large assembly area and official area, the areas for exhibitors to set up will be clear, it will be a first come first served basis but they wont be able to to have more than a 3 x 3 space, There will be a walkway between every two 3 x 3. So that anyone behind will still have decent access to get around the ring. Anyone wanting more than a 3 x 3 will be advised that it will be behind the front row. At least we are trying to make it fair.
Personally there are heaps of champ shows where i would be lucky to be squeezed into a metre and a half square,as so many mats and chairs and grooming items were reserving big spaces and the last time that happened I arrived at 6.45am.

Oooh fab, been looking for somewhere that makes trolleys with the "old style" wire rather than those horrible vertical aluminium poles. I have seen so many dogs tails sticking out of the bar type ones, they are ruddy dangerous.
I will never own a straight pole only trolley after being there when a dog I bred, owned by another exhibitor was being pushed out of the Adelaide Royal just ahead of me, the dogs tail became wrapped around the wheel, He was screaming in pain and wrenching his body in an attempt to free himself. I tried to cut all the hair to free him, long Sheltie hair, while his owner held him against the side to stop him pulling away. When it wasnt working we got help to actually break the wheel off, but he was still trapped with the hair around the wheel, eventually I cut all the hair that was caught and could see that the tail tip was torn off with only a small piece of skin still connected him to the wheel, I had to cut it off, so we could free him, there was just no other way. it actually caused major lifelong damage to his spine and his renal function as well as giving him a short tail. I would love to be able to buy a lighter trolley especially now Im getting older but will never risk those straight pole trolleys. It was one of the wooden trolleys (thats what most of us had 16 years ago) and yes it had wheel protector bits.
