  1. Training for a beagle - you cant beat David Weston's Dog Training the Gentle Modern Method.

I'll have to get it and read it quickly! She's doing well, but boy does she resist! Stubborn doesn't quite cut it. My husband is stubborn, melody is on a whole other level lol! Lucky she is cute and we love her to bits.

  2. My hubby had a more thougher look last night and commented on how white it all is now. So I'm not sure what it was. She has very dark rings under her eyes as coat colour. We go in to the vet tomorrow anyway for a general checkup so I will mention it then.

Don't have any more pics than the one I had unfortunately, she did get her second vac Saturday just gone, and a daresay the vet would've given her a check over then too.

  3. Thanks we are both smitten. She is yet to meet the children though! I bet they will be over the moon!

I can't believe what a talker she is though! She loves to sing, and sing, and chatter away. It's very cute, but I'm hoping it doesn't turn into a problem. Only her first day so I won't be too hard on her. I'm sure she is just missing her mum and sisters.

  4. It does look a little bloodshot, but there is a shadow there. Otherwise she's such an adorable little bub! I love her expression

Looks blood shot but it also looks that it may be a bit moist with a tear stain. As I said it may be just the way the photo is taken but thought it better to check.

Good spotting! My husband is an optometrist and he thinks she has mild conjunctivitis but could be from the flight. We have wiped using a bit of saline solution and it seems to be a lot better today. If it gets any worse ill take her into the vet.

I ended up taking her home early because she just wanted to be held and I couldn't. She howled the store down  Thankfully we weren't busy and the boss loves dogs.

I have a few more pics in the photos section :D

  5. Sharing our first photos with our pup just taken on an iPhone 5. Not fantastic quality but want to share. Will blow the dust of my DSLR and pray she stays still! Christmas photos are coming soon, so hoping to have matching christmas outfits for the family (including the dogs!)

  6. What a day!! I have definitely gotten the most affectionate out of the litter, it also seems the most dependant. She just wants to be snuggled next to me constantly. Puppy games are fine mum, as long as I can be up here on the couch with you!

I worry about how she'll go by herself today. I wish I didn't have to but I have no choice. She can also sing, and is living up to her name. We had a really good night though, she whimpered for a bit but went to sleep. No baying or howling like I was waiting for, and I didn't have to resettle her! So I'm glad for that! Made it to 5:30am for a toilet break! Yippee!

I'll just back for a pic!

  7. :welcome: Iris! <3 she is so cute!!!! I'm watching the in flight checker so far she is on time. Was fine when I woke up but as time goes i'm getting more nervous. Breeder called me to let me know she was on the flight, he seemed a bit sad. He will miss her, and said I will fall in love with her. I hope I do!
  8. Today is the day  ! Now I have to wait until 3:30 and pray the plane is t late or that I don't hit major traffic! I've almost definitely decided on Melody, but I will talk to her and she can tell me what she likes.

I spent another $15 on doggy treats for training lol, and have 2 cleanrun orders with things just for her coming! I hope they hurry!!

Just have to get through the day now!!!

Elz how was the first night with little miss Iris?

  9. Once you get a bad flea infestation the dog's immune system can go into overdrive and make him react to lots of things he never reacted to before. I had this problem with my boy last year, finally resorting to dreaded cortisone to settle things but then he reacted to that. Now after more than a year of Chinese Herbal Medicine we are almost back to a normal dog. He actually improved on Black Hawk but I still feed mostly raw, so it is only a small part of his diet.

This is what I was originally thinking, maybe all these chemicals have dried out his skin or ruined his immune system. I just didn't know it it was a plausible hypothesis. I've not heard of CHM for dogs! I had some for pregnancy years ago. Where did you get it from?

  10. Lots of advice here. Seems every dog is different!! I'll try tea and salt bath (not at the same time) and take him to the vet I just didn't want them to give me medications to cover the problem. I'm a bit like that with my kids. I hate just giving them medicine when there are other things I could do which would fix the root of the problem.

I have considered raw in the past but I'm just so worried about not getting all the balances right. I'm not sure he'd eat veggies either, I look at some dogs eatin pumpkin carrot and lettuce and think WTH my dog doesn't even sniff it! I gave him a chicken frame the other day to try and add some raw but he didn't do much with it and I ended up having to collect bits and throw it out. I gave him 3 hours to eat it but was paranoid about chicken going bad. Was I over cautious??

  11. Thanks, maybe I should take him to the vet for an allergy test. Didn't think he had any allergys as he's been on the same food since we bought him home (almost 2 years now) and he wasn't always itchy. I just wondered if the fleas started him itching and now its gotten worse with time. I know dogs itch, but just didn't think it should be so bad.

Only thing we have done is the oatmeal shampoos and some moogoo from my personal stash. The moogoo works on his underbelly but not much for other areas.

  12. Hi All, Just wanting some advice on my boys itching behaviour. We did have a huge flea problem which has been eliminated (well I bloody hope so!) after about a year of trying every stupid thing under the sun. We used a heap of different spot ons as well. We washed with malowash (is that the spelling) several times during this too. He was bathed twice a week during this. We have also had the whole house and yard pest controlled twice! Finally have gotten comfortis to work, and I haven't seen a flea on him for about 2 months now. And yet he still itches.

With this back story, I thought maybe my boy had developed a bad habit of itching. So I bought some kongs and filled them with cheese (his favourite!) but he would still itch while playing with it. So I thought maybe all these spot ons and chemicals might've dried out his skin? So we are using oatmeal wash during his bath and the dog washer hoses him down with cold water. I have a furminator and brush him once a week and was even tempted to shave him to see if it was the hear (not that its hot at all here atm!) was agrivating him.

His diet hasn't really changed, he is a giant fusspot when it comes to food and will only eat supercoat. I thought Goldies were hoovers? I wanted to try Black Hawk but he turned his nose up to RC and SD and don't want to be wasting more money on food he won't eat. He has some raw stuff occasionally, but i'm not overly knowledgable on how to porportion it right to get a balance.

Still itching. Is there a cream or oil I can rub into his coat to soothe the skin? Could there be something else making him itch that i've missed? Open to suggestions.

(It doesn't 'annoy' me that he scratches. It 'bothers' me because I worry that something is wrong. Other than the itching he seems perfectly fine.)

    Thanks in advance.

  13. Hey there! Sounds like you are on the right track. I had a bit of trouble getting responses from breeders, was easier for meto email first and follow up call a day or so later (just to make sure they received it and to offer them the chance to ask questions). Some just never returned email or calls :(

I always knew I wanted a girl, to dote on with fun bows and collars. <3

    Best of luck!!! :flower:

    Thanks Llante :)

I'm kind of glad some of them haven't gotten back to me tbh because after some more research and feedback from people, I think perhaps it was good they have ignored me :)

Deep down thats why i would like a girl, so I can do the same as you re bows and pretty accessories, But if its a boy, then I'll be just as happy too.

I've never been able to have a human baby, so this will be extra special for me too :)

I recieved 3 emails last night from breeders in my area. That's the way, already have one set up and then people start replying to my emails and calls. Oh well, guess she was the one for us as she was the only one available at the time.

  14. ONE MORE SLEEEEEEP!!!

Oh exciting!!! I have 2 more sleeps!

Have you got everything bought and ready to go? I can't set mine up until after she is here as its a surprise and I don't want my kids not wanting to stay at grandmas because the new puppy is here. I get 2 nights alone with her before she meets the kidlets.

Have you got a name yet??

Yep, this is my first of many new puppies so it's kind of "old hat" for me to get a new puppy.

    Her name is Iris :)

When do you pick her up today? Please share a pic ^__^

  15. Hi all,

As the title suggests.. I am looking for someone to show my 17wk old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel for me.

I show horses but am very new to dog showing so am wanting someone to show my puppy the ropes then hopefully i can show her later on..

Is there anyone in the Brisbane area that trains/ shows dogs for clients? I am willing to pay for the right person to show my little puppy. :)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

P.S i have attached a photo of the little rat bag!

If you decide to show her please let me know as I'd be interested in it too (complete newbie) I'm also in Brisbane so we could at least know someone else is new too.
