yeh I don't know alot about bitches but all the ones I do know, male dogs have licked their behinds when in season. Try him out with a desexed chi and if he is still in love, get him one
-
if he was licking her bum, it's likely she was coming into season. chi's can appear to be tarty but it's part of their personality. I think "saucy" is in the standard. But yeh, bum licking probably means she was in and he was horny. Would have been very dangerous for her if they mated

Meeting A Butcher - Perth People Rejoice!
dead sheep replied to Garden Girl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
only ladies on a dog forum would get excited about meeting a butcher -
get him his own chihuahua

Hey Miss H! yeh there is two different chihuahua builds. Short and chunky or lean. I call Mort my little staffie because he is built very much like one lol I went to a show once with my boys to see the chi's. Arnie is 2.5kgs and he towered over the show dogs. Mort is 4.9kgs and taller than Arnie and twice his weight even though they eat the same and I try to give Arnie the larger bone or a little more mince. When Mort was 6 weeks old, he was 1.1kg, when Arnie was 12 weeks old he was 1.2kgs so Mort will always be larger than Arnie. Mort has a little waist and I can feel his ribs but he is just a big build. I would like to put some weight on Arnie because he looks frail but he is very strong and happy, doesn't shake so I will just keep feeding the way I feed. eta: yeh Arnie's hip is healing ok. He uses it most of the time now even when running. I think the swimming has really improved it

My Mort is a chubby bum and built similar to Bonnie and Sophie. My Arnie is a skinny bum and is very similar to your Huey. They get a chicken neck or wing each day and a couple of small dried turkey treats during the day. When we have kibble, they have 1 cup between them per day and a small chicken neck each. If I buy chicken frames, I cut it into quarters and they have 1/4 of a frame each. They always have some type of raw meaty bone for their meal and they graze on the kibble for a while but it usually lasts about 1 hour. 'scuse Arnie's photo, he had an op on his hip

you can also try Bepanthen from the chemist.

I put a small pinch of shredded cheese in the microwave and melt it till it starts to bubble. As soon as it is out of the microwave, it starts cooling down so I can sort of mould/wrap it around the tablet and they eat it whole.

poor little bloke I hope he recovers soon

vets advice is not the be all and end all and some vets will do anything for the extra $$$ that comes with an emergency desexing on christmas day (triple time I believe) With much respect the majority of vets, not all of them, have ever deaLt with this issue which is painful and uncomforable for the dog to endure, but also painful for us to watch in horror. A nick in the sheath might help but in most cases the owner needs to be prepared to *gasp* touch the dogs penis.
-
I've got no experience with this other than my own dog but a nick would not help him in his case. His penis stays out too long, sticks to the sheath and won't go back in. The sheath stretches enough for his whole swollen penis AND his glands to come out (a bit larger than the width of a 50 cent piece) when he is getting jiggy with his teddy, most retracts back in but the last inch on the end dries up before he can get it back in. His licking doesn't help, it's not moist enough. I've found KY a quick, simple, painless solution. The only thing desexing did was stop him ejaculating everywhere. He's a "big" boy and the phrase "hung like a chihuahua" is a compliment in this household. It almost touches the ground and he can't walk properly when erect He will probably continue to do it for another 2-3 weeks after the desexing, as Blab said, he will still be full of hormones. But if it starts happening again, have a look at the penis and find out if it is too big to go back in or if it just dry. A nick won't help if it is dry and the dog needs to be given a hand getting it back in. KY it up but don't try and shove it back in, do it very gently but if you are not comfortable with that, just put the lube on and let dog do the rest.

I only freeze our bones to keep them longer. My dogs like to cart their chicken around on the floor, on hot days and let it sit outside for a while to mature before consuming. Freezing for health is a moot point here.

A friend of mine has had this problem with his desexed dog quite a few times,he was told by his vet to get the dog to lay on his back and to hold a bag of frozen peas on his penis till it went down. that wont work. the reason it doesn't go back in is because it dries out and is stuck on the sheath. I would never do that to my boy!

good news Poms, have been checking in all day wondering about the little man
-
KY jelly and help it back in yourself. Happens to my horny little chihuahua almost daily. I give him 2 hours to get it back in himself, otherwise I help him out. Mine is desexed and it hasn't stopped the red rocket coming out

Baby Cavalier And Chicken Necks
dead sheep replied to Staff&Cav's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
both my boys, from the same breeder, were on chicken necks from about 3 weeks old. If a dog has teeth, it will be able to eat a chicken neck. -
and too fatty
-
jebus! one would last us till next christmas! I'll go get one and cut it up for their lunch tomorrow
-
and time to find a better local vet too Jess. Poor Chevy I hope she clears up soon

wow, go little bucca man! I hope he continues to improve for you Poms. I would think dark urine at this stage is good as it means his kidneys are cleaning out all the shit from his system from the past few days. Go little man

The smallest bags I can buy are 6.9kgs which should last me about 8 months. I have two chihuahuas. Before Artemis and Orijen, I was feeding them Iams which I bought in an 18kg bag. This lasted just over a year and I stored it in the same bag it came in. Towards the bottom, we had no problems, discolouration, smell and they didn't turn their nose up at it. With the Artemis I am feeding now, I store it in an airtight container and mix it around each time I take some from it, just to keep it nice.
