  1. Our dog with pancreatitis has kangaroo meat, natures gift the kangaroo one, rice and veges and a 4x2 biscuit, has been on this a couple of years now and has been fine.

Yes I have to agree with Grace this diet ias ideal also fish grilled is great my rule of thumb for pancreatitis is 7% fat and under nothing over best of luck

  2. Contact the truckies you may find one that does not have a back load or one that will tow it back for you.

How would someone go about contacting truckies etc

Hi i Contacted the large removal companies re Ryans Freighters ,Patons, etc check your phone book in yhe area you need they always have some empty trucks after doing removals and are happy to fit extras on what they call backloads and it is usually at a very minimal cost also they were happy to put me in contact with other companies that were in the area I needed which was great as It saved me doing work there is also a website which is run by truck companies where you submit detailed item pickup drop off etc and they quote for the job(like bidding) then its up to you to accept I will try and send it to you its GREAT!only new

  3. I have been extremely fortunate with my 2 BC's. Both of their breeders have been very helpful, caring people. Always answered my emails if I had any concerns with either one very quickly.

Giving me expert advice no matter what the problem may have been related to. Their health, behaviour or me just being a worry wart . Even had offers of advice from Stella father's breeder

which I will be taking up her very generous invitation as well. Best to learn from the best.

It is sad JulesP you have not been so fortunate & struck an uncompassionate breeder. Especially when your dog was so ill.

Owey, hope Bailey is still on the improve today.

BC I agree we have been very fortunate to have sourced out and purchased from compassionate and knowlegable people so yes a good cuppa chat on phone, good friends , vets, and JUST SOMEONE TO LEND AN EAR AND LISTEN really helps it can be a really lonely time when people like Jules have to deal with these issues as I sure at some time we have all been their at the start,. I learnt one good lesson from the breeder whom I puchased our dogs MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE its not always easy but with sites and good people like on here showing Jules compsassion and freely offering their wisdom little Bailey will shine , wishing Jules and Bailey all the best any updates?

  4. And also to add...you can buy a puppy from a registered breeder that has done all the testing etc etc. and that puppy is not immune from illness either. Okay, it's not likely to have the genetic problems that untested parents might pass on but that doesn't mean there isn't some nasties out there that can strike at anytime. You cannot guarantee that it wont, but you should be there as a responsible breeder for your puppy buyer, but does that mean you pick up the vet bills? Each situation is unique. Luck (or misfortune)does have a part to play in it too.

Yep currently have 2 purebred pets with chronic illness. One breeder offered no support at all to me. I didn't expect money but a 'how is your dog, hope you are ok' would have been nice. Buying from a registered breeder is no guarantee they are going to give a shit. Bit bitter, sorry.

Sometimes all people need is a bit of tea and sympathy and knowing that you actually give a shit about a puppy you breed and how it's doing, sick or not. Some people react rather rudely to bad news as if you are about to sue them and go into complete denial. :(

  6. Hi, I had just come across this post firstly I own and breed reg Cavaliers and we have also owned and shown Border Collies my daughter has a 12 mth desexed male he was purchased from a reg breeder and had full health checked tests in my opinion anyone can pick up what they call CHEAP PUPS, NO PAPERS ETC and the old saying saving money? until something minor or unlucky as in this case happens and then it becomes an extremly EXPENSIVE ordeal. I wouyld like to wish this boy well and have a happy and healthy outcome. The MAIN reason I also wanted to post was to comment on how I found all the border collie people who so kindly offered this woman their experince and knowledge in a kind and caring manner never once being judgemental how easy can that be so I just wanted to say a big thankyou BORDER COLLIE REG OWNER BREEDERS BE IT SHOW OR PET this kind response does not happen very often people like this lady are very rudely dismissed by some breed type owners.

  7. We just found out my 13 year old boy (ACD x BC) has pancreatitis. He has to spend the night at the vets on a drip. Hopefully I will be able to bring him home tomorrow. Fortunately I think we caught it early as we noticed he was panting quite a bit and refused to eat his food last night (a definite sign my boy isn't feeling good as he usually has the appetite of a Labrador!).

What foods are suitable for a dog with pancreatitis?

At the moment he is on 100g of chicken mince mixed veggies a couple of chicken necks and half a cup of Eagle Pack Holisitic. He also gets chicken carcasses and sardines twice a week. Are the sardines a no-no?

I don't know that there is a whole lot I can cut out of his diet as it's already fairly restricted since we've been trying to get him to drop a couple of kilos.

Hi our cavalier boy also was unlucky to be diagnosed with pancreatitis, after a recovery from 1st vet stay we put him on prescription diet, worked reasonably well, was he was stable we decided to change him to Bonnie Light dry, yoghurt (low fat) Kangaroo mince , BUT THE BEST AND ONE OF THE THINGS HE HAS BEEN ON NOW FOR 4 YEARS IS WHITING(fish) which is lightly grilled or barbecue or just on george lucky though my dads a fisherman, as all my Cavvies have always loved fish as for treats(greedy cavvies) we felt that we looked at the lowest fat content in dog biscuits which was 2x4 Greyhound biscuits we break in half so he a least still gets a treat I wish you and your boy all the best.

  8. Soloman won his Baby Puppy class today against a 5 1/2 mth old Baby :-) next show is Colac..

Congrats Tenties how good is that Im sure you were thrilled especially for his 1st show, did he have the BABY WIGGLES they really are so cute all the lovely babies were their many Cavies entered? I will be going to Colac my girl will be a Junior and still is a bit of a handful, never is she dull and thats what we enjoy hope you gave Soloman a nice TEA

  9. I couldnt belive it today when I heard the John & Ang were not allowed to take their truck to Noorat shows and that the other vendor had requested and got sole rights.

You would have thought that the clubs concerned would have benefited from two vendors paying site fees etc, and not only that, given us exhibitors a choice from who we buy from.

I stocked up today on everything I will need for Noorat & Look forward to seeing John & Ang at Cohuna for my purchases.

I believe in freedom of shopping & there is nothing like competitive business's, not to mention friendly personalities etc.

I think it would be best to take this up with the noorat show secretaries who by the way have friendly personalities and have their hands FULL with making everyones weekend enjoyable also club business re vendors is just that club business , I so look forward to this weekend one of the best in Victoria GREAT 3 DAYS MEALS PROVIDED ROOMS AVAILABLE SO LIGHTEN UP SUNSHINE AND JUST ENJOY WEEKEND AND YOUR DOGS

Lucky the show secretaries are nice as your reply is really NOT friendly or nice at all!

Are you the other vendor that has a monopoly at the show?

I dont think my reply was not friendly but I do think we get to enjoy our shows and stay out of the politics of running a show, we all have the option of supporting our favourite caterers, sometimes certain factors make it impossible to have every type of vendors at 1 show, be it, cost available space etc, also not always can a vendor travel as they have other commitments shows etc, or is it cost effective for them.RE quote No I am not the vendor nor do I believe they have a monopoly at this show. I dont have a prefrence to either vendors as we alll make decision to whom we give our money., if not noorat weekend then following shows

  11. They may have just bumped the button on your profile in one of your posts...

That happened to me last week I accidentally sent a friend request and did not even know that I had done it...

Or they may want to be your friend.. I think you can accept or refuse.. Sorry don't know much about the friend thing on here or why we even have...

Thanks staffyluv probably was an accident, I will just leave it STILL GOT MY L PLATES HAPPENING

  12. I was wondering the same thing. I recently got a friend request from someone I haven't had any interaction with.

How does the friends thing work on DOL? Do friends have special access or something?

Hi Tintin Jac, Im glad someone else would like this explained?, being new to DOL is a real learning experience more input would be great from all longie members Thanks

  13. hI all, just wanted to know as am new, I received a message that a person had added me as a friend I looked up their profile but theyc had nothing in their about them after reading the problems you had recently how do you go about accepting or more to the point if its genuine?

  14. well, the BBQ is NOT going to be offered ever again as this year no one bothered to show up, it costs me money to get there and i also bring a table and supply the BBQ so no more sorry :mad

How dissapointing for you, from what I had read you went to a lot of trouble and expense please dont be too mad, gee how hot was today hoping tomorrow will be a little cooler when are you going to show your little baby tentie they are so cute

Monster i cant show my boy until the VCA get their finger out and do his paperwork i got the poor little mite vaccinated and microchipped at 7 1/2 weeks for nothing :( they said the papers would be done last week but nothing showed up little Soloman is just being one of the bigger kids at the moment he thinks its wonderful he even got to go outback with them this morning to toilet its so funny watching a baby boy, they sniff a spot that everyone has wee'd on and they sidle up to it as if to lift the leg..... but then squat

Tentie, yes VCA can do them in a DAY if you pay EXTRA but otherwise it is 3 WEEKS csurely thats a money marketing if ever, and I agree that having little breeds microchipped (another new law) earlier is completly wrong extreme stress to puppies I never vacc and m/chip same time , and all my puppies stay here with me until they are d/sexed then go to their loving homes. I am perhaps in the position to do this but I am of the opinion that this stops all indiscriminate breeding and I am able to socialise them, toilet trained, lead etc and then new owners are receiving a happy new addition I have never had a problem with this and i feel if they agree to this instead of rushing into purchasing puppies then they will be responsible owners, and makes it easier for both new owner and puppy to rehouse. I went up to show this morning way tooo hot and heard about pug owner fainting hope all is well with her. I always get a laugh out of puppies and their antics they always make you smile they really think they are big kids Soloman sounds like a real cutie at least he put a SMILE on your face perhaps thats why we have these little people, looking to catch up with you at a show my little girl is a terror not goint to Noorat even though its close she needs a bit of puppy time. I bought a lovely bed had red velvet on one side only $7.00 I couldnt make it for that

  16. Where we're you?? I'm sorry :(

hI Missymoo, I think I might have met you Friday night were you getting your dog of the dog float in the carpark at Safeways if so I was the lady who pulled up and asked if you were going to dog show and that their were cheap chickens if you needed ythem how strange dying to know let me know are you showing your dog Sunday

  17. elders weather forecast has Warrnambool at 37, are they going to cancel Saturday's show? Naracoorte have and the prediction was only one degree higher for there?

if you read what is printed on the schedule for warrnambool the show will start at 8.00 am if it is more than 38 also for lady bay

Hi Crackers you seem to think your an authority and have an opinion on everything TAD ANNOYING, I read my journal TOO

  18. hi i was talking to the secretary of the warrnambool dog show about my entries and said about bbq and they hire the oval on that

week end and that you are not to hold a bbq on the oval and also you have not asked.and it would a H & S issue she is all so took the entries

for Noorat i asked about baby pups no one asked her to enter tenterfield terriers baby ? p/s iam not showing at the weekend will be away

have fun at the bbq crackers

Crackers, that would be Beth that you spoke to ?.... we dont have the BBQ on the oval as last year she said no so we just have it somewhere else on the grounds :D

As for Noorat its no good asking to enter with out the reg being back as you can not enter as reg pending anymore, i would have otherwise ;)

Hi All, Well I spent a lovely afternoon down at the pen at harris st with my Cavvie she has just finished her 1st season so she thorughly enjoyed herself no one else down there, sounds like the bbq is becoming an issue as for entering young ones ex babies there is no more reg pending but if the dogs Victoria pullued their finger out we would not have to wait so long yes you can pay for fast service but if they can do it for extra money then they should be able to do the same for normal postage, does anyone know where to get silver sides for compact gazebo at a good price.

    Hi everyone!

BBQ is only an issue on the oval off the oval it is fine and under shady trees as well!!! Hey Tenties I will be there Friday night setting up we have an extra gazebo I could set that one up under the trees nearer the oval if you like and then we have saved ourselves a BBQ space - mind you ppl will probably park it in if it is too close . Anyway the entry for Saturday is minute so I wouldn't be surprised if judging was finished before lunch even... Bringing garlic bread to share again if I remember to buy the baguettes tomorrow.

Someone told me that you could still enter baby puppies rego pending but only if you had bred them and not if it involved a transfer. I have no idea if that is correct, the Gazette trumpets every month that shows secs are not allowed to accept reg pending entries so I don't know.

Monster if you have a BCF store somewhere near you they usually have reasonable prices on the OzTrail walls. :)

Hi Thanks , Im pretty sure their is one out the highway near Harris Scarfe I will have a look next week (BCF) I will be in Melbourne Saturday going by train hope air con is working hope its not toooo hot Sat, hoping to go up to the show Sunday wishing everyone a lovely day
