I think there's an IPO club in SA, might be best to contact them re IPO breed Rottweilers.

Very happy with her so far,she has nice drives while being social and an off switch which makes her a pleasure to live with.

Have seen some nice Groenendael French ring dogs on line but that being said was quite a bit of Malinois/Tervueren in the pedigree.

Never thought my old Rottweiler female was a great looking dog but her drive, strength and nerve were incredible.

She was only about 34-36kg boy could she run, nearly as fast as current Malinois.

As already stated here's my Rottweiler from the 80's.

Used to do a 10k walk every mourning until she was 12yoa and still be keen for more.

Met Felix v Magdeburg in the late Eighties impressive dog.

Have a copy of Pettengell's book "The Rottweiler" with a great photo of him in it.

Hoped I wouldn't have to resort to reading the instructions.

I was very interested in the comments re. Rottweiler Drive.

If I was to compare my Eighties Rottweiler female to my current WL Malinois Female I'd say drive and activity level wise very similar dogs.

My old Rottweiler was definitely harder to handle than my current Mal. That's not to say my Mal. doesn't have her moments.

As stated previously, a great idea would be to use a trainer experienced in working breeds.

They would be able to take your friend through how to use play to gain control and bond.

I have found play to be one of the most important factors training my Malinois, allowing me to avoid most conflict but still get my way.

Skip can you explain the "problems at home" comment?

If I was to use a head halter or a correcting style lead on a working breed I would attach a flat collar as back up.

Have a Euro. style lead that has connectors at both ends.

Huski, my Malinois and your female (my girl is half sister to yours through Hassan. Please correct me if I'm wrong)definately have Terv. and Gr. way back in the 50's.

A dog named Xavier a Terv. ('52 Belgian Ring champ) is in my girls pedigree online among others.

Re Black malinois the only ones I know of are XMechelse Heders (XMalinois), the black coming often from a Gr. named Andor van de IJsselvloed.

I seem to remember a belgian interbreeding some years back (Malinois x Laekenois), I think the litter required pre approval with the state body.

Best to check with the body in your state.

My working line Malinois has a longer coat. Often asked "what cross is she?" people normally thinks she's part GSD.

Read an interview with a IPO trainer who always tests pup on unfamiliar terrain, often just the reaction to the new environment will indicate if he will even continue the test.

He has taken two pups to multi world Championship wins.
