Pups/dogs do dream ... a lot! like us , some dreams can appear 'bad' dreams . :) perfectly normal .
being a living creature..he will have different moods/reactions to things ....he is also still a baby.
Infants of all sorts can have times of really wanting to eat or play ... but the body says "rest time" ..so they wander and whinge , trying to stay awake until sleep finally wins  .... LOL

His dream noises sounded off. Definitely wasn't running in a field of yellow daisies dream thats for sure. Poor babes.

Is it bad that I like that he was clingy to me. Wrapped and held him in the cardi i was wearing. Could've taken him to my bed if hubby wasn't around. Lol

puppies are funny little creatures and often do things that no one can explain. It almost sounds like a pain response but that could be just because he was a bit constipated for example.  I think he felt off and wasn't sure how to fix it. This morning he feels fine and is acting normal.

My husband has been sending me updates and pics. All seems to be ok and back to normal. But i sometimes think he's just saying that to shut me up :( LOL

My pup did pee twice in his designated area. And did his no.2 later also. Could have been constipation.... I am the biggest worry wart!

  3. Need some advice.

I have a 10.5 week male yorkie. Hes sweet as pie. Plays constantly with his toys and can entertain himself as well as us.

All weekend he has been doing his normal routine, play, nap, poo/pee, eat, play, etc etc. Then after his nap in the evening, he woke up followed my husband and I around the house and whined to be picked up. So i did because i just love to cuddle. Thats when i noticed him acting strange. He would pace up and down. Not touch his toys. Would sit on his puppy steps look at the carpet, walk up the steps to the sofa, back down to the steps, on the carpet, back on the steps, run to me for back up and reassurance, and it repeated until he went to sleep with my husband on the sofa around midnight.

Is this normal? He seemed normal this morning. Played with his toys. Ate his food. Napped. Poo/peed. Hubby says he is fine but I read that it could be puppy had a urinary tract infection. I checked him out. Checked his behind. His temperature. My husband thinks i'm being too much.

Can anyone explain or have gone through similar with their pup?

Just wanted to add that during his nap before he went strange, he was making noises in his sleep. Like little whiney crying noises. Bad dream? Can that effect them?

    Hi

This could have been linked to a previous post but I decided to open a new thread. It would be nice to get some advice from  breeders directly.

I put a deposit down for a cocker spaniel puppy from a DOL breeder couple of weeks ago, the puppy is now 4 weeks old. What communication should I expect as a part of a normal (not over the top) relationship  with  the breeder?  I have asked couple of times for a picture but I haven't received any.  The puppy will be travelling to Qld so I cannot visit in person.

Should I wait until they ask for the puppy to be paid in full and then ask for all the information , including pictures ?  I don't want to overwhelm them with emails , I just really want a picture of my puppy, the names of the parents and if they can tell me a little about her personality.

    What do you think?

I'm not a breeder but I did get both my furbabes (18week old pup now and a 5 year old) from an interstate breeder. Im sorry if this will offend other breeders but she was hopeless. If you choose to breed and sell I think you should be on top of things including communication with your buyer. She only communicated via email even when I gave her my mobile number and she still didn't offer hers. Pics sent to me via email of the pups, I would look at the background setting. It was a pig sty. That should have set alarm bells in my head. I know now that she had a few litters going from different bitches and was probably overwhelmed???? I don't know. And she posted all the paperwork to the same suburb where i live but in a DIFFERENT STATE! Took me two weeks to get it after numerous calls to australia post.

    Anyway....

I really don't think its too much to ask for pictures of your pup since you have already paid a deposit and the excitement of a new family member has kicked in.

I think it is also worth keeping in mind that, no matter how good a breeder is (or isn't), sometimes sh!t happens and you end up with a less then perfect puppy. That's Mother Nature playing with us. To me, if your pup does turn out deaf, and it's a breed not known for having hearing problems then that's a shame but life goes on. If the pup is deaf because of an untreated ear infection I would be livid and most certainly would want purchase price refunded. IF it could be proved that's what happened of course.

I agree, its not the end of the world. Any BAER is the last option. She shows signs that she can hear (or feel vibrations) but also doesn't show signs. I just need to know.

Thank you everyone for all your advice. I quite like this dog/puppy community :)

There are 2 clinics that test in SA Adelaide Plains I think it’s called Noah’s Crossing  out two Wells way .

thanks for that. I'm in Adelaide Hills. Two wells is quite far. I'll keep researching. Have also asked my vet (via fb)

If you maybe start a new thread in  'General' asking for recommendations for BAER testing in Adelaide ..
that way you will hopefully be told of the  ones folks here know of or have used :)

Hmmm..a BAER test now sounds a good plan . The breeder doesn't sound at all concerned :(

Yes i'm looking into it now as we speak. Trying to find where they do this in Adelaide.

Breeder wasn't the best and couldn't even contact her by phone. Always email which I thought was strange. Anyway, I'm not here to put her down :(  i'm more concerned about my pup and her welfare.

You can’t monitor hearing issues ,if your pup is deaf ,deaf in one ear or borderline then the sooner you know the easier you can adapt a lifestyle that allows quality, independent living and ensuring human interaction is positive not frightening the better . Your vet should have to.d you about the BAER option ..

A BAER text is the only health check to confirm it ,puppies learn quickly to adapt ,follow or read signs ,feel vibrations hence a vet check as such will not give you a true reading .

i would contact your breeder with your concerns

Yes my vet did the basic test for sound. No response from pup. Was just clicking and clapping. All the stuff we had tried at home. She also did tell me about the BAER test but also said that as a pup she will have selective hearing. But my husband and I can clearly see that she just isn't responding and showing alertness to certain noises.

I have contacted the breeder and she has said to give it 18 months and see where she's at. I'm sure 18 months would be enough time for the breeder to say, sorry, your issue now. I paid good money for a pure bred. And its not about the money but the lack of empathy and concern of the breeder about my pup from her bitches litter. :(

  10. Yes. I took her to the vet for her usual worming and also expressed my concerns. My vet checked her ears and did some basic test like I had done. Clicking and clapping to see if she would respond, jump, anything. But she didn't. I was just told to monitor and see how she goes as she gets old.

I know its not the end of the world if shes partially deaf. She's a good pup but i just can't help but worry.

  11. Thanks for advice. Raggamuffin is very food motivated. We go through the sit, stay training most days. When nana comes close to me when i have treats for training, raggamuffin will shoo nana away. Shes bossy one.

Im leaning towards an at home trainer. Thank you for the link!

  12. Hi everyone.

I'm quite new here. Need some advice, help, assistance anything as I not sure what to do :(
Firstly, I love my little 17 week australian silky pup. She's a cute little raggamuffin. I bought her through a breeder here and also bought her nana (5 year old silky terrier).
My problem is that my pup is showing signs of partial deafness. I've had puppies in the past and they all responded well at raggamuffins age. Theyve all shown signs of alert and sound. Raggamuffin doesn't respond to her name. Yes I know most pups won't and they have selective hearing at the puppy stage but she isn't alert at all. She will be sleeping and not wake up after I have slammed the front door shut. Her nana will be up straight away barking and thats when puppy will wake because of the noise. We have hidden around the corner and clapped our hands, called out to her. Her ears don't move for a while. She has fallen asleep on the couch and we've clicked our fingers above her head. No movement. Does not wake up. What we haven't tried is banging pots and pans while hidden away in the kitchen. Poor nana would just hide away.
She does however, responds to her squeaky toy.

Shes quite aggressive towards nana as well. They play rough and have gotten too rough for my liking sometimes. She will bite our hands and fingers, which i know they do, i've wailed, ouch so she would know its too hard, but she just keeps going. She will stop eventually though. I'm afraid puppy doesn't know her boundaries because she cannot hear nana or us.

I'm not sure what to do. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Thank you
