  1. The service fees at my regular vet are reasonable, a lot more so that their insane mark up on pharmaceuticals!

I think this is where they make a lot of their profit. If you compare the prices online there is a big difference - sometimes three times the price through the vet.

Or even more! I recently paid $25 for 200mls of liquid paraffin, in the supermarket it is $3.15! & $15 for an enema, at the the chemist the same one's are $15 for a box of 12!

    Live and learn I guess.

  2. 18 months isn't too late at all. I started showing my first amstaff at 2 years of age and she picked it up very fast even though I was also learning at the same time, but I had an awesome show mentor to guide me along which helped a lot!

There are a lot of nice people around the shows that will help you out with anything you need to know.

I suggest you go to a few shows beforehand and sit back and watch the judging and what is expected of you and the dog in the ring etc, take your dog to some classes if possible, make sure it is socialised and use to being in environments like the dog show and go from there.

    Have fun!

  3. It all comes down to common sense.

I see juniors controlling their dogs better than many adults do ... know your limits/strength.

At my last show just gone i had an adult come up to me before group and ask me to keep my breed well away from her dog in the group line up as her dog hates my breed and she wont be able to hold him back if he went for my dog :o Comforting.

  4. At the show i referred to earlier there was a Best Neuter In Group and Best Neuter in Show along with all the neuter classes offered (puppy, junior, inter and open)

My boy ended up getting Best Neuter In Group and Best Intermediate Neuter In Group (yes 2 sashes with this written on it) from a lineup of all BOB neuters regardless of class, after this the other classes in group were run except for intermediate obviously as we had already won that. Now for In Show all the Neuter In Group winners went in to compete for Neuter In Show again regardless of class, winner was from the Open Class so we got to go back in again for Intermediate and won that.

As i had only entered shows that offered the 1 neuter class (open) before this show i was confused about how it would run but that's how it panned out for that show.

Is this not now other shows with multiple neuter classes offered are run?

  5. There is no such thing as Neuter in Group, there are specific classes that are available. A dog could win Junior Neuter in group and win no points because there was an Open Neuter in the same breed that took out the breed then went on to ON in group. It is the same as classes. The BOB Neuters don't automatically all go up against each other unless the only class offered is 18/A.Maybe if the class was better supported it could justify the CC's arguing for more points to be available. The NT has supported the class prior to the class being given the points recognition. We often have a large percentage of our entries being neuter compared to the numbers quoted in this thread.

At the Campbelltown & Districts show this year they offered Neuter classes in puppy, junior, intermediate & open and all of the neuter BOB winners went on to compete for Neuter In Group regardless of class, with the remaining classes in group afterwards minus the NIG winners class, like BIG is run. Same for in show, Best Neuter and then classes.

  6. Sorry if this has been discussed but i can't find it on here but doesn't everyone think that it's a bit unfair that the Dogzonline pointscore for best breeder doesn't accept the neuter champion title as a conformation title?

Do they not get judged on conformation and points allocated the same way as the entire champion title! ... confused.

  7. Same price both limited and Main.

Oh come on. If one colour doesnt sell as easily as another and is in less demand why would a breeder be so terrible if they sold one colour at one price and another higher or lower ?

I believe that will encourage some breeders to breed for colour only, as they know they can sell them for me.

Just look at the "rare" blue Stafford.

    It does.

It's the same with the Amstaffs aswell, because of the huge blue craze that went on and how everyone thought it was rare, so breeders charged more, they are now everywhere! & people are still getting sucked into paying more for the colour even though is is now the dominating colour out there.

  8. I sent my dogs x-rays to Lavelle for the first time last Tuesday night. The results were emailed to me by lunchtime the next day :) and the hard copies in the mail. That is unbelievably prompt service, and I was really impressed.

I for one will be happy to use Lavelle in the future. :)

    How good is that!

I did something very stupid and sent mine off to the AVA as per my vets recommendation, they went to Canberra only to be sent back to NSW for some anonymous scorer to score them (i only know this because i rang to see what was happening), it took a bit over 6 weeks, in the end i rang them twice to finally get my results over the phone because apparently they wont send my results or my xrays back to me .... grrr

What... :mad why won't the send your xrays back???? That is very strange, at least they should send them back to your Vet?

Yes they will be sending them back to my vet whom will have to then send them onto me as i don't live close to this vet, i requested they send them to me but it's not their protocol.

  10. I tape mine on top of the airline crate, there has never been a problem with that but they do tell you that they can't guarentee it wont come loose and be lost but they way we tape it it would have to be a heck of a bumpy ride to ever come loose.

The last lot of packs were in a cooler bag pack and had food, treats, info folder, spare blanket and toys all in there, it squashes down well once the tape is applied lol

  11. No seperate class, the titled dogs worked to where they are and so should every other dog.

If a dog can't be competitive with the Ch & GrCh's to gain it's title it's probably not going to be competitive with them in the champions class (when or if it gets there) and what does that say about it's title.

Why wouldn't a rare breed get a look in for group? If they are of a good enough standard, they should have the same opportunity as every other dog in the lineup....unless some dogs there are clearly better examples of their breed than others.

The same would apply in the breed ring.
