  1. My dogs have eukanuba performance. ($98 for a 16 KG bag, last ~7 weeks for two 23KG dogs) Guaranteed to have over 30% protein. (the most I have seen)

My 23KG dog eats ~2 cups of it a day and that is it compared to ~4 cups of supercoat energy that he was on before. He poos less than half what he used to also.

  2. Any pics so we can see if she is actually skinny?

Amlovinya posted a q of how to put weight on her young amstaff, I looked at the pic and thought she must of had brain damage coz that dog was bordering on fat!

  3. phatdex- do you think they suck their tummy in to make themselves look neglected on purpose to get more food? LOL I have wondered this for so long now.

I think so LOL My boy really looks horrible when he is eating. The ribs sorta move in and out while he sorta breathes weirdly while sucking up his food. If someone looked over the fence then, they would def call the RSPCA! :D

  4. I was wondering how she could eat so much. Seriously I've never seen any dog consume so much food so fast. She doesn't even take a breath. She looks like she's starving everytime I feed her.

It's just her ribs sticking out, her spine isn't showing at all, but she looks like she's sucking her tummy in all the time.

I was thinking it was the quality of the food, but have had Purina recommended before from someone here.

Soooo, I'll get some Eukanuba (sp?) and my local butcher is a really nice bloke, so she'll be spoilt with fresh meat :D

Is it ok to only give raw meat though?

Dogs ribs stick out when eating coz of how they eat. My boy looks like hes VERY neglected when he is eating and looks all skin and bone. Then once hes finished he looks normal again. LOL

My 23KG boy gets ~2.5 cups of Eukanuba performance per day and does ~1 hour of sprinting plus ~2hrs of walking a day.

4 cups plus 750g tin seems a huge amount!

  5. My shar pei sonic is very soft mouthed when playing and very puppy like and he does the shake the toy like crazy thing where as my amstaff Gouki is very strong mouthed and dog aggressive and prey drive motivated, and he rarely does the shake with his toys. He prefers to stand on one end of the toy and rip upwards from it with his mouth. I dunno what that shows, but my soft dog wouldnt be killing anything, yet he pretends to kill his toy, where as the one who would kill things doesnt shake. If that made sense.

  6. RSPCA investigates dog squad's 'cruelty'

THE RSPCA is investigating the NSW Police dog squad over its use of electric collars and also firing revolvers near their animals to test them for sensitivity.

Police had to suspend part of the training for new dogs after a complaint the noise sensitivity test could cause the dogs psychological problems.

It is also under pressure to get rid of electric collars, which send a jolt of electricity into the dogs and are considered so cruel they are illegal in NSW, South Australia and the ACT.

NSW Police is fighting the RSPCA on the basis it believes it is exempt from the law governing the collars.

But the dog squad has drawn the ire of certain dog breeders and trainers, who disagree with the squad's recruitment tests and training in general.

At least three have told The Daily Telegraph they will no longer supply dogs to the police.

"The collar was used for the first time this year as a last resort to correct the behaviour of two highly experienced operational police dogs," a police spokesman said.

"Had the re-training not been successful, these dogs would have been destroyed. Police dogs are highly trained to exacting standards and can not simply be 're-homed' or placed in the general community."

Lisa Boyle, who has professionally bred and trained patrol dogs for more than 15 years, alleges a $5000 German shepherd she supplied police in May was returned with psychological problems after a sensitivity test.

"They handed me back a dog with serious problems and said 'We don't want him any more'," she said.

"That's okay if he's a pet and you're going to keep him but I do this for a living."

Another breeder, who has supplied Queensland and Fijian police, said he had demanded the return of his dogs only months ago after hearing how the squad tested new recruits.

WTF? E - collar, firing gun near a dog? Good grief the RSPCA has nothing better to do!

  7. Pit bulls are not good guard dogs, they like people too much. They are bred for dog fighting, so dont be too surprised if once it grows up it tries to kill your "yaya". So always watch them together. They may be the best of friends forever, or the new one may attack your "ya ya". You never know.

  8. Yes, I understood as Erny did that the shep tried to bite her and she punched it. I have never punched a dog, but I have given a dog a damn hard smack that bruised my hand so I know how she felt.

I feel my shar pei is the same as your shep. I gave up trying to train my amstaff in weight pull because of him. if I left him in the backyard while training the amstaff he would keep licking the amstaffs face, running around us and carrying on. If I locked him inside he howled the house down and my amstaff would be too distracted to listen to me. In order to do it i would need someone to take the shar pei for a walk also. So I know the frustration.

My Amstaff is reliant on me as he was an only child, my shar pei is totally reliant on my amstaff as when he was little he was always with my amstaff and thus he will listen to the amstaff before he listens to me.

  9. You might have missed the point that sch training is 90% individual. You turn up for a class there is no class, no group. All dogs are locked up, one is out being trained. That one finishes, the next one is out.

Lets say there are 10 dogs to train, 15 minutes each, do the maths how long will it take and if you are last how long do you wait for your turn....

I meant the handlers. They will be learning and training just by watching others. But no use in even watching if ur dog cant have a go.
