My neighbours would have a mojor coronary if i got noisy ones lol.

With the amount of properties within half an hours drive of me i would hope someone has some kind of stock I can practice on. I will have to do a drive around one day and ask.

I wonder if I could get away with it. How noisy are the female ducks? If I can get eggs (Duck eggs are great for cooking) I might be able to persuade my better half that those messy little buggers are worthwhile.

Otherwise I need to find someone around that has sheep that need a lot of excersise they are currently not getting. LOL

I am going to try to do a lot more work with the little tike now that he is 9 months old and more ready to get knocked about without losing interest.

I will be doing my best to educate myself at the same time . My biggest problem is distances and knowing so few people in Melbourne.

I can get out to see Herding_guy once a fortnight, but that is a fair hike for normal practice. I will be doing that though because I get a lot out of his lessons.

But it is the day to day practice I also need. I will be giving it a lot of thought over the next week or so.

I must say though, Looking at all of Jesomil's prizes and participating in this thread as well as going last Saturday really has me thinking that if I put in some hard yards Chance and I may actually succeed in winning a few of these contests. Dispite me bagging my little mate relentlessly he is a very intelligent and biddable chap. He is not afraid of stock, nor is he overly agressive. He speaks on command and loves working.........hmmmmmm ( Very thoughtful expression on my face)

They are very very well disciplined Koolies.

I don't know if anyone here has seen Chance with sheep, but he moves so fast they get confused over which direction he is coming from and are not sure where they are supposed to go. He also does this shoulder slam thing that would flatten a porr little duck lol.

But I did see feather flying from a few Kelpie mouths lol.

They go from "Hey look at the dog run around madly" to "OMG is that really my dog?"

That was us. That was my pregnant other half. Hers is the little BC girl.

K&P I am working on the encouragement at the moment. the BC (Jenna) does it no hassles but she is a slower worker and a better thinker. The Koolie (Chance) is like greased lightning but not so quick in the head.

They both love to work and would do it all day so I am happy with that anyway.

In the interim i think I will jump at any chance i have to take them Herding and do a coarse with Paul next year with Cattle.

I was there as well. The Lone Koolie hahahaha, not another Koolie in sight.

Though the farmers kept asking me if he worked and how well etc etc. He is switching off after 5 minutes or so at the moment. His hormones have kicked in and he is not used to it. But if I repeatedly took him in for 5 minute stints he just gets better and better.

1 BIG problem he has, for me anyway is getting stock off a fence. He will charge head long into a mob nop problem, but will not go between stock and a fence if they are packed in. He would rather back at that point and run across the top of tham.

Sorry to hijack for my own pic but it must be a Koolie ear thing. This was Chance at 11 weeks. His ears only stood up because his head was back lol.

Herding is an absolute blast, especially the first time.

I love wacthing puppies when they first see sheep.

It's like "OH WOW" and they forget the rest of the world exists.

Where do you normally go for sheep herding? I am now in Hampton Park on the East side? I would love to find somewhere I could run around in the evenings or weekends.

I still want to try to get out to the airport as well because we enjoy it out there.

And to anyone going just look for a tall skinny guy and a smaller and much better looking lady with a red merle Koolie pup and a BC pup.

I probably won't enter anything unless my arm gets twisted. I just want to get a feel for the events. I have never competed with a dog in anything before, i just love the fun side of it.

Does anyone find that doing Agility or Flyball etc interferes in any way with Herding?

I mean does it get confusing for the dog (or the owner for that matter)?
