One of our local vets have a regular article in the paper, for the last few weeks they have been flogging this test. I'm guessing there's good money in it for them.

My heart goes out to you. RIP Buddy.
Word of mouth is the best form of advertising for any business, and it also works in reverse. Yell about your wonderful dog and tell his story, you will undoubtedly save other dogs lives.

I do some work for Pets at Peace Central West, here's a link to our page and if you look in the products section it shows the range of urns/boxes and other options we have. I guess if people haven't had a pet cremated before it doesn't hurt to have a look at all these things people are posting now as when the time comes and you do lose your pet you may remember something you had seen and liked without it being quite so stressful.
We put the pets ashes into a plastic zip lock bag before putting them into any of our urns or boxes because we understand how devestating it would be if you were to accidently break them. If people request the urn or box not be sealed we leave it open for them but even when we do seal them we make sure that it is possible without too much hassle for them to be opened.
So sorry to hear of everyone's losses at this time of year.

I do trick training or (shh dont tell me boss) I take them into work and let them run around on the 4 court basketball stadium :)
-
Chevy is 6 and a half and we have just had 2 pups come into our lives (now 3 moths old). They are litter mates, not ideal I know, but originally they werent meant to be staying with us permanently.
I am 12 days off having our 1st bubba so undoubtedly we will get another dog in probably 5 - 7years when the child is ready for their own dog.
-
Wow that's cool, and pretty amazing that an animal act has won one of these shows!!
-
I called a whole bunch of vets yesterday to find out the cost of desexing a female around 10kg and the prices ranged from $190 - $285 but I think they offer a lot of variations - eg including pain meds for 4 days or only 2 day, some did not include the cost of pain relief.
-
For my own dogs I am very against having them with other dogs at kennels. I have only boarded very few time but am lucky enough to have found a great kennel where dogs have their own individual day pen and their own individual night pen. There are 2 styles of day pens, one for the non escape artists (fence height 6foot) they are 10m X 10m and then the jail cells (fence height 3m with inward slope at top) and they are about 4m X 5m.
They have a maximum of 20 dogs at any one time in their entire kennel. They are a retired couple who do it for their love of dogsand to keep themselves occupied, not to make money.
-
I would start by just separating them at home, maybe in different rooms, or one in the backyard and one in the house. Vary the lengths of times that you do this for, then when they are comfortable I would take one out and just sit out the front for a bit, not actually leaving the yard. I would do this until they were both happy. It could be a long process but it's definately worth doing.
I have always made sure that I walk my dogs in differnt combinations so that no one becomes stressy.

Greater Western dog club in Bathurst have obedience (Saturday Morning) and agility (Sunday Morning) and are running Rally - O on the odd weekend here and there, their email address is [email protected] contact Rodney for full details.
There is also the Dennison club in Bathurst, sorry don't have their details.
Orange is definately a non event for dog things these days. I haven't been to the obedience club here in years but have been told how it has deteriorated.
Good luck with your driving!!

I had my Emma cremated last year. But can't remember who did it. If you send me the names I might recognise the company. Anyway they were great and I had her ashes back in a beautiful box in about 2 weeks. Don't know what it cost though as my Mum paid for it (but I think including the box it was somewhere around $300 maybe).
If you have a look on the bottom of the box there may be a sticker on there with the details of the company who did it for you - we always put contact details on ours.
-
Pers, I wanted to choose many answers in the second question!
Occasionally my husband refers to me as our dogs mum or himself as dad, BUT our dogs are treated as dogs, and of course wonderful companions.
Being childless we do a LOT with our dogs as we do not have children to take up our time, but we do have a bubba on the way, and honsetly it puts things into perspective. One day as I was driving along I just had this incredible connection with our unborn baby, it is a feeling I have never experienced before - not even remotely felt close to with the dogs, it is an entirely different level. I do not love my dogs any less, I have just learnt a new level of love and I am sure that level will go up again when I give birth.
I have an incredible appreciation for every dog I have ever owned and every dog I will own into the future, man, if they were people I had chosen to bring into my life as friend I am sure my appreciation and tolerance of them would be much lower

Some great points have been raised in this thread.
Greytmate, pav, snook and a few others (sorry can't remember all now).
I have been there with all of my dogs who have had to be put to sleep and honestly, I could not tell you how the vets have reacted at the time prior to putting the needle in, putting the needle in or afterwards, all my focus is on the dog.
I am pregnant and had to see the ob for the first time last week, The first thing he said when I walked in was - so are you feeling fat? and then 4 times during the 15minute visit he mentioned how 'old' I was and that I really needed to be seeing him more often (I am 35 so only boarder line old). Has this turned me off drs altogether? No this one is obviously just a d!ck, will I see him again by choice? No, I will go back to seeing my regular dr who I am comfortable with.
I hope you find a vet you can trust and be comfortable with.

On behalf of Pets at Peace CW I would like to say thank you to everyone involved in these awards, we are thrilled with the win in our category again :) Unfortunately Shane was unable to attend this year (due to him preparing for a trip to Hawaii with his darling wife for a special wedding anniversary), but he is thrilled!
Well better tell him to start planning any wedding anniversary do's for next year around Canberra - It was a good night and we missed them.
Shall do :)

My dogs LOVE their wobbler kongs, as they get better at them you put bigger treats in them so they have to work harder at getting them out.
It's funny how differently my dogs use them, Stimpy uses her feet only to wobble it, Frog uses her feet and her nose and Chevy only uses his nose, it's like he is on a mission and he keeps it rolling continuously in circles and squiggles and just hoovers up whatever falls out.
-
I have friends who got 2 pups from the same litter - one male one female ridgeback X bullterriers. The male was the boss and always pushed the female out of the way when it came to pats and food, she didn't even bother coming out of her kennel most of the time. He passed away last year at age 11, and since then she has blossomed. It's great that she has had this time now but the first 11 years must have been hell for the poor thing.

See Spot Run is my all time favourite
-
I saw a guy once with a dachshund and started chatting to him and he told me the dog was a doosh hound
-
Sounds gross but see if you can get a small bit of soiled paper from the breeder to take home with you and immediately put it where you want your puppy to wee (either on pee pads or on the grass) they are attracted to wee where they have gone before so this should attract your puppy to the right area.
-
I also know a family who lost their puppy (the first puppy they had ever owned since they had kids)due to it falling in the pool and ending up under the pool cover, it was just 2 weeks after they got the pup. It was devestating for them but especially the 9 year old as she has already begun training him and had such big plans for the puppy. The puppy was so small it just walked between the slats in the pool fence.

OT but Trisven13 I remember watching that about the dad who usually didn't take the child to child care but had to that day and forgot. That will stay with me forever, now that I have a bub I think of that poor man nearly daily. If I have left bub at home with his dad I reach into his seat (still rear facing) to double check he is not in the car. I can only lock my car from the passenger door and only get bub out the passenger side -it is something I am so paranoid about.
