  1. There are 15 dogs at North Melbourne on the LDH website for rehoming at the moment. This is from the biggest shelter with almost all the council contracts. Only one dog is over 2 years of age. Where are all the others? ChuckandSteve, people have been asking questions, offering to provide places in rescue to the dogs and wondering where all the donations go for a very long time. It just annoys me that someone collecting more money for them would provide such inaccurate information.

I did actually have words with the girl and told her what I actually thought of the LDH but she kept coming back at me. I said just google them and see what people are saying. And also check their website out as to how many dogs are currently up for adoption. It took all of my being not to shake her especially when she ended the conversation with "have a nice day". grrrrrrrrrr

  2. I bumped into a girl that collects for the Lost Dogs Home who said did I like animals. Well what am I to say but of course! She said that she was collecting for ...The Lost Dogs Home... I spied the sign before she got to speak. Anyway I sort of said do you know how many dogs and cats get put down there? I said it was over 80%.

Anyway apparently that is all now changed she said that they save 25,000 each year and none are euthanised.

    What a fantastic turnaround!!!

  3. I enquired about stem cell therapy but due to where the problem is it would all be a bit of a hit and miss solution.

She is currently on injections once a week for 4 weeks and then will be having them once every 3 months.

So far so good, they seem to be working.

  4. Not a return but this was actually worse.

Woman has a dog, she gets another dog from breeder, has the first dog put down coz he apparently is not getting on with the new dog. Her partner comes home and asks where dog one is. She shows him the spot where she buried him.

Now I knew/know this woman and will not talk to her.

Breaks my heart coz I would have happily taken her first dog into foster care. A rare breed too.

  5. My girl Charley has just xrayed and the radiographs show an area of spondylosis in the lumbarsarcal region of her spine.

Medication long term appears to be the only thing we can do.

Just wondering what everyone else has done.

I have spoken to a vet that has performed stem cell therapy on a dog that has lumbosacral spondylosis.

It is done through a company called Medivet. Look them up. medivet.net.au

That looks very exciting. Thanks for the info.

  7. My GSD has skin problems and he reeks! :) Not very nice to have in the house. That combined with the shedding (seriously I get a whole dog's worth of hair off him every week, despite him missing hair from skin problems) is making me not very keen on getting another one.

Kavik, I had a GSD who had skin problems and she stunk. I put her on Lamb & Rice for about six weeks and she came good. She was fed Nutro Lamb & Rice the rest of her life and we never had any problems. You may have already tried this solution but if you havnt its worth a try.

I have tried pretty much everything diet related that I can think of  As he is getting older his skin is getting worse  Being pregnant at the moment I am noticing the smell even more! Ick! Unfortunately it makes me not want to spend much time with him.

Years ago I had GSD and he had terrible skin problems and it smelt awful. Was at the vets continually and they kept giving me stuff to bath him with. I eventually stopped bathing him and guess what. His skin problems cleared up. He never had a bath in the final 3 years of his life and only ever smelt when stressed.
