  1. Ok well I think I must be the +8 for Wayrod!!! My boys arrived happy and healthy with absolutely no fuss, I am so pleased with the service and so glat the I jumped on dogzonline to get some second opinons, so thanks everyone for your recommendations
  2. Thanks Tobster, I have done that
  3. They are 19kg and 7kg respectively. I did think it seemed a little expensive but they are travelling by themselves.
  4. I'm trying to get an idea of what a reasonable price to pay for transporting dogs. I have two dogs that I'm moving from Perth to Darwin and I've been quoted from $700 - $1200 for them both to go, this sounds rather pricey to me but I'm not sure as I've never transported dogs before. I'm sure there are some people on here that transport their dogs regularly can you let me know if this seem like an excessive price or not? Thanks
  5. With the onset of spring my BC has been picking up alot of grass seeds which I'm a bit worried about, I check him over every night to make sure he has nothing in his coat but I'm also finding he's getting an increasing number of dreadies, does anyone have any tips for removing dreadies. At the moment I'm spending about an hour a night brushing them out carefully but I sometimes worry that it might hur him especially around his ears and the soft areas under his legs, does anyone use any particular nifty sprays etc for dreadies and any tips for keeping the grass seeds at bay?
  6. Thanks for the replies. All the dogs are desexed. I will take them for a walk in non regular territory to help the new lad feel more at home, I'm just so suprised at my BC reaction he's just about sitting on top of me to make sure I haven't forgotten he is number one so may need to start instilling a bit more control to the whole situation.
  7. I'm hoping I might be able to get some advice. My friend has asked me to look after her young dog for her for a while as she is unwell, which i have agreed to. I got the young fella home last night and introduced him to my two, I have a 5 yr old Jack Rusell and a 2 yr old Border Collie. Both of them seemed somewhat unhappy about the new introduction and whilst the JR didn't like it he put up with it and got over it pretty quickly, however my BC will not leave my side and when the other dog is near his tail stiffens and he will not look at him, he has also growled at the other dog. I've never had a problem with my boys out in public they are generally very friendly dogs however on their own turf things seem a bit different, has anyone go any ideas of what I can do to fix the situation. I am currently not leaving the three of them together in case the situation escalates. I'm going to take them for a walk tonight and see how they go off their home turf together.
  8. He looks like my boy who is a Blue Merle but could be an Aussie too, a bit hard to tell from the pic. I hope he finds a home soon!
  9. Agree. Perhaps dog and horse groups could come up with a joint submission amenable to both. I agree, the biggest problem at the moment is the survey submitted provides only one option for horse owners and that is to keep the status quo, no extra beach for dog owners, so why would anyone support keeping it as it is as we know there is a problem. I've been in touch with the city of Joondalup to ask what research has been done into understanding the horse owners that use the beach, however I don't believe anything has been done. If you would like to help please fill out the petition that I put in this thread above and fill out the survey, in support of horses at the beach. I like to take my horse to the beach becuase it often gives people who may have never to to see or touch a horse before the opportunity to come up to us and meet us, the number of kids that have asked if they could pat my horse at the beach is awesome, it's a great feeling to be able to make a kids day.
  10. I am a dog owner and a horse owner and I do take both my horse and my dog to the beach so I understand the issues and frustrations for dog owners, with limited parking and congestion on busy days. However I will have to travel over an hour and a half if this beach is removed to take my horse to the beach, whilst the horse beach is only 50m I would love to be able to continue taking my horse there. I would also like to see the beach extended for dog owners further south and more space made available in the car park, it may seem strange but if you would also like to see the horses stay at the horse beach, we have set up a petition to take to Mr Pickard to try to persuade him to rethink the current Draft Beach Management Plan. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/save-whitfords-horse-beach
  11. I've got two purebred dogs one that's a bitser three purebred tb's and one tbxqh, i never really put too much thought into weather I wanted purebred dogs or horses I knew when I got my BC their were characteristics of the breed that I wanted but with the other dogs and horses I somewhat ended up with them. Not sure if I would say purebred is best I think it comes down to a personal choice, agree wtih Mirawee though there is a fair ammount of controversy surrounding cross breeding horses which i support as I've seen alot of porely conformed cross breds out there.
  12. I guess we are all only basing it on our own personal experiences though, it would be interesting if any studies where done on weather or not dogs are breedist so to speak. If so my BC is breedist against other BC's never gets excited when he sees them and just turns his tail up and them :-)
  13. I was trying to figure out if dogs are able to recognise differences in breeds? Like humans can recognise if someone is from a different nationality by their appearance and accent or language they speak. Do dogs have that kind of cognitive ability or is that something only humans have?
  14. I have done. I'll be back this year for proofing so we're trial ready . http://www.midlanddogtraining.com/ I'm planning to enrol next month as we're moving up to the hills soon. If you see me come and say hello, I'll be the harrassed looking women with the mad Lakeland Terrier who wants to play with everydog or person in sight I will be there with my blue merle collie too! he will be the one completely obsessed with any round object and I will be smiling hoping noone realised we have no idea what we are doing
  15. Just wondering what other DOLer's do when they come across stray dogs? The reason I ask is yesterday I was driving and saw a dog walking along the street, I stoped and tried to call him over but he was cautious of me so I didn't push it, I don't live in the area and it was after five so I couldn't have called the ranger, what are my options in a situation when I can't catch the dog and he's not runing on the the road? In the past I had seen two dogs on the highway and I was able to call the police to get help because it was a major roadway but what about in other cases?
