  1. The GSDL are holding a show on the 10th & 11th October. The club sells leads collars & all sorts of dog merchandise. If you are in or near Sydney it may be worth your while coming to Orchard Hills/Erskine Park for a look. Failing that if you contact the League's merchandising officer they can mail any items you require. Website address is: www.gsdl/info
  2. We are only a couple of km from the fire. It is on the other side of the railway line & the Great Western Hwy from our place. Firies are worried the southerly change expected tonight may push the fire in a different direction. Keeping our fingers crossed.
  3. I agree with Nekhbet. A dog I bred several years ago was diagnosed with it. His owner had him too heavy & on too high a protein diet. It is easily diagnosed by x-rays as it shows as a shadow in the affected bones. To put it simply it is growing pains. If you slow down the rate of growth by reducing the amount of protein you should resolve the problem. Good luck Greg
  4. You could also contact Fair Trading NSW. You have not received what you paid for. Do you have a contract of sale from the breeder or anything in writing stating that he is sold on Main Registration & the papers are to follow? Good luck Greg
  5. Not sure what the law is these days but years ago it was illegal to give an animal away as a raffle prize. Greg
  6. I use a horse product called Swift. Lasts about 8 weeks. 10 ml in a syringe without the needle * apply 1 or 2 drops to each ear & the rest down their topline from the back of the neck like you would a spot on treatment & it lasts up to 8 weeks. Has to be reapplied if the dog is out in the rain. Cost is about $ 25.00 for a small bottle from a produce store. Advantix is also very good for fleia & all the other nasties it gets rid of. Good luck Greg
  7. Is Hubblebarn selling bulk supplies of meat? I know when he first opened he was going to but ended up only selling small packs. Is he doing bones as well? I have been using the fresh meat store but I rang two weeks ago & was told I would get a delivery on Saturday. I have rung 6 times & left messages but no delivery or returned phone calls. Thanks Greg
  8. Is anyone having problems with deliveries from The Fresh Meat Store that advertises on Dogzonline. I can't get a hold of Cliff. I have left 3 messages over two days & have not had a return phone call. His website is down so I can't send an email message. I'm due for a delivery but I just want to find out if I'm going to get it as I placed it almost two weeks ago. Thanks Greg
  9. You have a couple of options depending on how much money you want to spend. If you have a computer you can set up a webcam to record onto the hard drive of your computer. If you have a smart phone you could even have a look at what is being recorded while you are out. A little bit more expensive is the Swann range of cameras. If you buy a receiver with either a hard drive or a memory card you can hook up a camera / cameras. Wit these you can spend maybe just over $ 100.00 & work your way up from there. Swann have an online shop you can buy refurbished products at a much lower price than what they retail at Dick Smith, Officeworks or Big W. Good luck Greg
  10. I had a dog that used to get hot spots regularly. Put him on apple cider vinegar (unfiltered) & have not had a hot spot for years even after the wet summer we had here in Sydney. Got to be worth a try. Good luck Greg
  11. Swann put out a range of cameras & recorders. They are quite well priced for what they are. You can go to the Swann website & depending what is available at the time they have carton damaged & refurbished units available at reduced prices. They are also available at Dick Smith & I even saw an add in an officeworks catalogue. Good luck. Greg
  12. Shame about the judge having to pull out. Too bad if you don't like the replacement! Warning for people travelling from Sydney side of Bathurst. Road is flooded at Kelso & a detour is in place. Enjoy the show for those venturing out. Try & stay dry! Greg
  13. I got a call at work today from the wife to say she found the dogs playing with a red belly black snake. Rushed home (45 minutes) & Merlin, my male GSD, was breathing heavy but other than that appeared to be ok. He did have some drops of blood on his front legs but could not tell whether he had been bitten or it came from the snake when he was "playing" with it. Did a urine test at the vets & there was urine in the blood which is a tell tale sign of being invenimated. Just checked with the vet & all appears good. He is on a drip with antivenine. Fingers crossed for the morning. Greg
  14. No the blood appears to be from a scratch upon further investigation after I washed him down with water. Greg
  15. Still at the vets. There has been some improvement. Last night they were worried he was blind. This morning my worst fears were confirmed. His eyes were not responding to light. Good news this afternoon his eyes are responding. Still not able to stand. Vet thinks there is some degree of brain damage but it may be reverseable over time. Fingers crossed. Vet also thinks he may have had a stroke but can't be sure whether it happened due to the heat stress or before the heat stress kicked in. Thanks for your inquiry. Greg
  16. Easiest way to check for heat stress is check the dogs temperature. I have arrived home not long ago after taking one of my dogs to the vet. Came home from work - no dog. Found him sheltering under cover unable to get up. Found blood on his paw, automatically thought snake bite. Carried him up near the hose & wet him down. Took a closer look at the blood & looked more like a scrape than a bite. Unable to stand my next thought was a tick. Went over him quickly & no tick to be found. Next option was get the the vet ASAP. Turned out his temperature was in excess of 41 degrees. Ice packs, iced water enema & a drip & the temperature came down but slowly. Left him at the vet overnight so fingers crossed when I ring in the morning. My advice, if in doubt, go straight to the vet. The more time you spend worrying what it could be could be time wasted. Good luck. Hopefully no long term worries. Greg
  17. Glad to hear all the passengers in the trailer are ok. Any mechanical workshop should be able to carry out the repair. At worst you may have to replace the wheel hub or the wheel studs fitted to the hub. I've had to do it with a trailer I had many years ago & ended up doing the work on the side of the road after packing the dogs in the front of a ute with a passenger. Not a pleasant trip home. Good luck with the trailer & the show. Greg
  18. I don't use a groomer for my dogs but there is a dog groomer I think in Hazelbrook. I think it is in a boarding kennel up there. There is a dog grooming salon in Stafford St in Penrith. Never used either or know of anyone that has but these are the only ones I know of up the mountains. Good luck Greg
  19. A huge congratulations to Reg, the owner of Nicquistar Orsom Major AZ, who today gained the required points to obtain the title of Australian Champion. My thanks to Evi Thompson from Fur-Nature Photography for the pictues taken at the Spring Fair last year where he finished second. Greg Nicquistar German Shepherds.
  20. Thanks for the reply. Owner is going to try a few new training techniques & see how things go. Hopefully they will work. Time will tell. Greg
  21. Can anyone help with recommending a dog behaviourist in the Dubbo area. I have sold a pup to a family in Dubbo that are having some issues & need some help to solve the problems. Thanks Greg
  22. I have had a person that bought a pup off me some years ago ring me for some advice. The owner went away last weekend & had a friend looking after the dog. On his return the dog was paralysed. The dog was taken to the vet who initially thought it was a tick. Dog was searched, no tick, tick serum given just in case. Dog has not improved & vet has advised the dog has Coonhound Paralysis which can last anywhere between a week or a couple of months. Internet research says paraysis is caused by the dog being bitten by a Racoon but we do not have Racoons here in Australia. Vet believes the dog may have eaten something that has been dead for sometime & caused symptoms similar to Coonhound Paralysis. Owner of the dog did advise he has a sheep buried in his yard but is not sure that the dog has eaten it. I have contacted my vet who advises it sounds like a load of bull but without examining the dog they cannot offer any advice. Owner is reluctant to travel to Sydney as he lived on the far south coast of NSW & is worried the dog will stress with the travel. The owner is not sure what tests the vet has done but has been left with a large bill. Has anyone experienced anything similar that may be able to offer any advice? Thanks in anticipation. Greg
