I bought 2 of these some months ago. Filled them with old pillows. There must have been a big storm one night cos the room was covered with "snow" the next day. No more beds!

Our Golden litter was born on the 13th. 4 girls an 3 boys. They were all between 480 and 520 gms, so big strong bubs. All doing well and weighed around 750gm yesterday at lunch time. 2 hours later I found a little girl dead in the whelping box. She was still warm so gave her mouth to mouth, cardiac massage and a drop of brandy but couldn't get her back. Such a shock. I'm feeling your pain, Trisvin.

Congrats to all the August babies! We have Golden babies due next week.

Think my babies were born on the same day, MonElite, so I feel your tiredness. She had a litter of 11 but sadly the last 2 were stillborn, 5 hours after the others. I had someone comment yesterday that it must be difficult to manage with wet dogs and puppies in this weather! They seemed surprised when I said that they were all snug and warm in my dining room.

Congratulations on all the Feb. litters. Also sorry to hear of those that didn't make it. Our Golden Retriever puppies were born yesterday. She had 9, 7 males and 2 females, then 5 hours later 2 others were born, sadly stillborn. So I'm sharing your sadness, tiredness and yet joy with the surviving puppies. Touch wood that all our remaining puppies thrive!

Thanks,Dacinbcs. That is good to know and a lot closer. Are they expensive? I would love to find a good "local" vet that doesn't sharpen their scapel and open their money drawer when you walk in. I share your frustration, Freundhund! Us city breeders must be rare breeds!

I was extremely frustrated yesterday trying to organise a quick prog. test for a bitch I have visiting my dog. Normally I would just head straight out to North Richmond vet but I have just returned back to work from holidays and couldn't take any more time off. It seems that none of the vets in my area have in house testing, one even saying that it could take 2 days to get a result. Most of the receptionists I rang did not know what I was talking about and had to ask then call me back. In fact, I am still waiting for the clinic at Sydney Uni to call. The high point of the exercise was being told by one vet that it would cost almost $200 because they would have to charge a consult fee as well as she is not one of their regular patients!

A litter of Golden Retrievers due Feb 23rd. Our girl lives in Port Macquarie with a relative so it's like a "long distance " litter, though we will be bringing her home in 2 weeks. Litter confirmed today by photo .

I like your 5th paragraph Steve. Well said and perfectly sums up what I've seen in my breed.

My girl is currently having her second season and acting very strangely (or maybe just differently to my other girls). Her first season was back in January and seemed very normal. She was staying with my son at the time and was flirty and flagging for his dog (desexed). Today is day 15, she is still not flagging and won't let my dog near her. He is at the "frantic" stage so she must be ready. He is an experienced stud dog and is very sensible until exactly the right time. Maybe she just doesn't fancy him?? I am not intending to mate them this time but can I expect problems in the future? Any thoughts would be welcome.

I meant one of the black ones but they would do nicely. They would "match" my Goldens and still work well in retrieving. Are they called yellows or goldens? Do you get many per litter and would that put you off doing that mating again? Sorry about all the questions - just interested.
