    Pet Loo

I placed a container in the middle today with some of his pee on it.. will see how he goes over the next 2 days. I have the bunnings grass, its very heavy to lift around and wash, ill see how I go this winter as for summer I had to constantly wash it.

    Pet Loo

Hi Minimax i just read the pet loo web site and they suggest putting a pot plant upside down in the middle of the tray. I will try and do that and see how we go. Can I ask how your cleaning your loo also? and how often... I find we have to do it regularly to minimise the odour of it Thanks for your reply

    Pet Loo

Hi All I am hoping someone can help. We have a pet loo and our dog is using it fine for doing poo's when he needs to go. The issue is with peeing. He seems to like to pee on the side of it i.e. puts his two front paws on the it and leave the beg legs on the ground and pees. I was wondering how we can change this habit so he actually jumps up on it and pees on the grass as opposed to on the side/edge. I am thinking of putting a little pole or something on the top so he goes but not sure that will work.
  4. Sheena... I was feeding him black hawk only and he was going 4+ times. Now on occasions we give him a Roo stick as a treat in the morning or today we gave him a pork bone as a treat. His main meal is black hawk only. We normally feed him once a day, however we did try twice a day for a few weeks but now back to once a day. Its not an issue as such more a concern if the food is the issue or not. I m about to buy a 20kg bag and considering a possible change as opposed to replenishing the same product
  5. Can I ask on average how many times a day should a dog be doing a poo? Mine is fed black hawk holistic food and he looks healthy and maintains his weight. His poos are nicely solid however he seems to poo 5+ times a day? is this normal? I am concerned it might be his food?
  6. All solved and Argo is on the mend! The internal stitch had not removed. 2 days later the wound is healing and the antibiotics seem to have brought him back to his normal self. out of curiosity if a dog has an infection, can it affect them in terms of their spirit/ their normal self? Thanks for all the replies they were spot on!
  7. I couldn't see it mentioned so just thought I'd ask.. Have the stitches been removed by a vet? Did they tell you which sort of stitching was used? If the sitches were non-soluble and haven't actually been removed by a vet, that is likely going to be your problem. I called the vet they said they use soluble ones internally and non soluble outside.. they have removed the ones outside.. and saying the ones inside maybe causing an irritation. I believe we have just seen a stitch coming through now, so we will go to the vet Thanks Chris
  8. Hi all it seems better this morning.. the swelling has gone done and it is drying up... I am not sure but there about any stitching left but I will check this tonight and if its no better it is off to the vet :)
  9. Hi Persephone this is his little wound...(infection)
  10. Hi All How does one treat possible infection on the part where the dog had his stitches after desexing? it has a little puss coming out of the wound 4 weeks after desexing and its a little lumpy Is there anything I can apply? I just noticed it now and the vet is closed at this time Thanks
  11. Hi I have been reading on some sites that many people choose not to worm their dogs. I was of the understanding that dogs should always be wormed for both heartworm and an all wormer. Can I ask others if they choose not to worm their dogs and what is the result of this if so? Does it have to be done religiously as I have also read people choose to do it once or twice a year only as well.
  12. Thanks for all the replies. I read in another post that your dog wont get tapeworm if it does not have fleas so does that mean you don't need a tape wormer in the case you do use a product like advocate? I will treat for all worms to be safe. Regarding ticks I am in the Bondi / Centennial Park area in Sydney.. I have tried to Google to see if it is a tick area.. I did not really find anything.. does anyone know if this area is affected by ticks?
  13. Hi All I am trying to find the best product combination for fleas and worming and possibly ticks. I understand Advocate covers: fleas, heartworm, hookworm, roundworm and whipworm, lice and ear mites - So does this product cover everything I need to be concerned about apart from ticks? I have read through a few topics and found many people do not use spot ons or any products to protect against fleas? how does this work then? I would rather avoid having a dog and in turn a house infested with fleas...we go walking in the park and there are other dogs in the area too so I assume its a given to use a flea product?
  14. Thanks for all the replies! Persephone, It is a question as I heard reference of someone talking and raising a point that the sire of this particular dog was an import and that he was a nightmare dog that the breeder sold him. I believe they were talking about whether the now dogs of the sire's litters had the sires temperament or not.
  15. Hi all Can I ask does a dog inherit their sires and Dam's temperament and behaviour or not? If a sire has a very bad temperament do their puppies inherit this? As a follow on question, is it easier to settle a puppy into a new house and raise them to your lifestyle and environment versus an Adult? Apart from the obvious of toilet training, feeding etc are puppies easier to bring into a new home as opposed to adults?
  16. Hi Nushie Thanks for your reply. Can I ask which grass did you buy from bunnings? is it the really short and cheapest one or is the more realistic long grass that is heavier and more grass like? Thanks for your reply thats what I am aiming at doing also.. I know it will take a few weeks or more.
  17. Hi all Thanks for the replies. I pick up my puppy this weekend so I see how I will go. I will get the fake grass and have paper on hand also and see what works best .. I have pee pads as option too if all else fails. Thanks again
  18. Hi All What is the best way to toilet train a puppy in an apartment? What I am proposing is: 1. A pet loo (with grass) on the balcony for when we are home and take him out constantly to the balcony. 2. When at work the pup will be confined to the kitchen and I am proposing to have a small fake grass toilet on a mini toilet (from vebopet) with pee pads underneath That way its the same surface as the balcony. He is paper trained currently with the breeder, so when we bring him home should the kitchen have paper put down everywhere and the grass tray in the corner? When he is older I want to move the toileting to outside/downstairs on grass as opposed to the balcony or house but this is an effort at this point. Any comments, help etc is appreciated Thanks

    Second Vacc

I believe it depends on where you live The local vets in my area are all asking $95 - 100 per vaccination and $250 for desexing of a male toy poodle Its expensive i believe :D
  20. 8 full weeks, so anytime from day one of the 9th week. Thanks Toohey for that
  21. I just wanted to ask so I can clarify when we say 8 weeks are we talking as in the day they start their 8th week i.e once 7 weeks has past OR at the end of the 8th week when the pup is going into its 9th week?
  22. I have bought a few books 1. Dummies guide to Puppies - Sarah Hodgeson 2. Ceasar Milans book Ive read the Gwen Bailey book which i think is easier than both also liked the Australian book called dog whisperer.. The Victoria Stillwell book looks quiet good but I havent read that just seen it in stores.
  23. Stupid question here.... If you live in a unit with carpet internally and a balcony that is tiled... are you less likely to have fleas???
