When my lab was a puppy she was put in the bathroom but kept whining so we let her sleep in the lounge room and that suited her fine. If she needed to go to the toilet she would go to the door and whine or scratch at the door and we would let her out and she would go to the toilet. I am pretty sure the breeder that we bought her from toilet trained her before we picked her up.
