  1. If you live in a tick area you should most definately be using tick prevention- something like advantix every two weeks. You should be using something on your cat also.
  2. Both the pups have rashes on their tummies from some (what we think may be) wandering dew. We have washed them in stop itch and put some dialuted iodine on the scabby spots and have been slathering them in aloe vera. We have some antiseptic cream from the vets but I'm not sure about using it because they are licking it? Is there anything else we can put on them to reduce the itch?? Poor Lola's is really bad
  3. Last night my friend and I were discussing her dog- female staffy (X I think or otherwise extremely poorly bred), my friend has just returned from an overseas holiday and she was saying that her dog didn't recognise her until she was right in front of her and called her name. She was also saying that she will some times tap on the window when her dog is outside and while she responds (looks) it's as if she can't see her (I know when I do this with my dog's they will look straight at me and wag their tails etc). She is also very timid, won't approach anyone and is fearful of strangers and I've commented more then once on the colour of her eyes- they are a gorgeous pale chocolate colour. Any is it possible she is partially blind?? She isn't even 2years old yet so it isn't related to age. Is there a way to check her eye sight or any test that can be done? My friend loves her dog very much and her being partially blind or having eye sight difficulties wouldn't be an issue.
  4. I was actually cleaning my room the other day and came across a book I was reading around the same time I first got Hero- it had all these tiny little teeth marks down one side- like he had been chewing it while I was reading I thought to myself "oh where did my little puppy go?!!!" one day you'll look back and miss all this!
  5. You could try any number of the sprays available from the pet shops or chilli powder or tabasco sauce, I've also heard that most dog's don't like citrus. But if you have a staffy like mine none of those will help and you will need to wait until he out grows it! Staffies have a strong jaw and need to exercise the muscles, make sure he has lots of bones, chew toys, kongs etc and that he get's alot of excerise and stimulation.
  6. I guess it really depends on what your interpritation of smelling "doggy" is - of cause, being a dog, she is always going to have some sort of "doggy" smell. My staffy doesn't at all have a strong smell, I only wash him because he sleeps on my bed. I agree with ellz- frequent washing isn't good for a dogs coat and could well be contributing to her "smelliness".
  7. My boy is 17kg's I'm sick of people constantly telling me he's too small- he is actually at the highend of the weight range. As Crisovar said Stafford's are meant to be an agile terrier- breed to fight and move them selves around the ring in a flexible athletic way, and also small enough to be picked up and carried under the owner's arm. Alot of the SBT's you see today (showdog's included) are, IMO, way too big, too wide, and too stocky- they wouldn't be able to do what they were meant to do which is sad.
  8. A polyp? But wasn't it nail? It looks to be "made" from the same stuff as her toenails are? (yep that sentence is scientifically accutrate )
  9. soo.......whats the virdict on our little freak?
  10. Wow thats freaky!! *note to self- check dog's for extra toe nails tonight* What did the vet say???
  11. Just email up back about the demo 4Paws Hero and I would love a Wollongong meet!
  12. I have no idea but can I just say- EEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW....!!
  13. When she was a pup the vet said it was possible it could become a problem for her as she matures as they checked it out while she was under getting desexed. But I would have thought that would be while she was growing/developing and being 3 she is finished that! She hasn't been doing anything different- if anything less because it's been raining and she just sleeps all day! And she did have an attack in the middle of the night while fast asleep. Did Mildred (love the name BTW!) have problems with snoring? Or running out of puff quickly while exercising?
  14. She does do the "reverse sneezing" thing on occasion bit it will just be one or two- these are going for a lot longer then that and I'm more worried about her passing out or something! This sounds more like her struggling to get air in and not being able to get it out- the first time I thought maybe she had sucked something up her nose but we've had a look and can't see anything. I know she will need a trip to the vet- it's just convincing my sister to take her
  15. Lately, for the past week or so, Lola has had attacks of what seems her not being able to breath- she starts snorting and trying to suck air in but can't they only last about 10-30 seconds but sometimes she will start to drool. It usually happens when she gets excited but she did wake me up a couple of nights ago doing it. Does this sound like it could be an elongated palette? She is an "Aussie Bulldog" I know this condition is rather common in Brachy breeds. Is it normal for it to come out of no where like this? She's almost 3 and never had any problems before? How much is it to treat- what do they do? If not an elongated palette what else could it be? It's pretty scary- she really is struggling to breath when these attacks come on and every time I'm just waiting for her to keel over! Please note this is not my dog but my sister's (who I live with) if it were Hero we would have been to the vet immediately!
  16. Also just thought- a lump of meat that is frozen might work too.
  17. My two get upset tummies from lamb bones sometimes - think the meat is too rich for them. So if he isn't stomaching chicken then I would be hesitant to give him any other bones. Maybe get him a nyla bone or similar for his teeth or try those dentabones?
  18. I'm soo sorry Sammy I'm just shocked.. how horrible.. please take care of yourself
  19. Hey Julie - when you here back from Horsley about training could you possibly pass on the info to me? Just had a look at their web page they don't have anything up but it looks pretty nice!
  20. Hope I get first dibs on a second hand one as per my earlier post and my thread!!!! :p ;) hesmyhero - will let you know too if I get more than one offer of a second hand one! Edited for stunning spelling NOT!! But of cause GD! :D
  21. I would also be interested in buying someones second hand one if they were willing to sell it! I have a staffy though so need the strongest one have been looking at them for ages but am worried about spending that much money when I'm not 100% he'll use it!
  22. Again I'm so sorry CDM.. Please don't beat yourself up over this (i read your post in the breeders section) it isn't your fault- its just one of those horrible things that happen- there are a thousand if's and but's but going down that road isn't going to help anyone :D
  23. APPLE- my dog's love it! Cheese left over meat (steak/chicken breast) cooked cabanosi devon natures gift!
  24. Back to Hero - how is he going, any news??? sorry I missed this staffyluv- Hero's lump has all but disappeared you can barely feel it now and for the past couple days I haven't been able to find it. He has an appointment for Friday at the vets and we will decide then if it's worth operating.
  25. Hero's lump has gotten smaller Before it was the size of a malteaser now its the size of a small pea. Should I still get it removed or does this mean it's nothing to worry about??
