  1. Danny, you must have been sitting next to me all weekend and i didn't even know it was you.... I have some great footage on DVD, it was good to see the up and coming IPO1 dogs get clean up from Sydney and our brilliant BH dogs. We had the judges staying here and it was a 2 hour a night sleep then up again for more action.... Roger and Vrom will clean up next year, they will win IPO 3 Australian Champion...
  2. Just thought we could keep on remembering Andy with another photo. Explosive Detection Dog 'Andy' takes a break during his initial qualification training at the School of Military Engineering in April 2007.
  3. With using the bleach on your grass, does it kill the grass?
  4. This is what I got emailed to me from the University of QLD, a vet/lecturer and her husband is in the top 10 vets in Australia. Hi Nicole it is safe to vaccinate even at 2 weeks of age for Parvo. If there is a risk of exposure, or if you don't know whether the mother was vaccinated, you can use the following regime: At 2 to 3 weeks of age – Killed Parvovirus vaccine • At 4 to 5 weeks of age – Killed Parvovirus vaccine • At 6 to 7 weeks of age – Killed Parvovirus vaccine PLUS live attenuated Canine Distemper Virus and Adenovirus vaccine. • At 9 to 10 weeks of age – Killed Parvovirus vaccine • At 12 to 13 weeks of age – 3 in 1 (Parvo, Distemper, Adenovirus) • At 16 to 18 weeks of age repeat 3 in 1 vaccine It is important that they get their last one at 16-18 weeks of age, because maternal antibody can block the effect of the vaccines prior to this. There would be no problem if you vaccinated your pups now with Killed Parvo vaccine, and then again in 2 weeks time. Remember it takes a couple of weeks for the vaccine to work - so you would still need to isolate them for this time. Hope this helps. Will send a picture of Booster as soon as I have my camera working again. cheers Mel (PS loved the photos - they are cute!)
  5. Yes as posted in the first post there is a list of known disinfectants that is designed to kill the virus.
  6. I would wait Tess, i was googling searching for answers for you, the majority of them said was wait 2 weeks after 3rd vaccination. I know your keen and all to get noah out, but better to be safe than sorry. But i also found this: There are 2 sets of vaccination protocols: At 8, 12 and 16 weeks is the normal. At 6, 9, 12 and 16 weeks is for when there is an extreme problem with parvovirus - which often happens at the end of summer. NEVER vaccinate closer than 3 weeks - it usually results in the pup's passive immunity killing off the new shot before the attenuated viruses in it can "teach" the active immune system how to recognise and kill them.
  7. Just curious to know how many breeders/rescue groups spray their yard regular for the treatment of parvo, or do you only spray it once a dog/pup has been diagonsed or you thought the dog had it even though the test was negative. I know alot of you have quarantine areas, but when you walk your dogs, do you wash their feet before placing them back into the yard/runs? Do you change your shoes before entering these areas? Some of the products I have heard of: f10 Disenfectant F10SC Virkon S Terminator Chlorine Bleach Parvosan Roccal What other products do you recommend? Or out of those products, what would you recommend? Also, what products do you use on a daily basis to clean the kennels/run areas hard surface and grass areas? Do you wash your dog bowls in a special product? Or in just soapy hot water? How often to you wash their water bowls (no just empty to fill up again I mean actually wash) Ta
  8. It can be from 2 weeks, 3 weeks whatever you choose, as it is a dead vaccine mothers immunity can still fight it off, at the end of the day, when we send litters out to new homes, we are never sure that the vaccination kicks in. Also studies show with the university of QLD, that the mothers immunity within the pup can over right a vaccination in the pups body up to the age of 16 weeks, this is why alot of vets recommend that the final puppy vaccination is done at 16 weeks of age. I have read so many threads where people say it is not safe to give them vaccines at 6 weeks cause the litters have become sick with parvo symtoms etc, that is only because the litter has come in contact with it, either at the vet, visitors or it was in your yard. It is still safe to give the vaccine at 6 weeks, 10/12 weeks then 16 weeks. If you are going to give a pup a C5, it must be followed up by another C5, you can't just give one, its the same with a complete C7, or a C2i. The research also says that a C4 is useless, cause it doesn't cover the complete KC components. C4's are given within a lot of pounds, where the dog still comes out with KC....A C5 is not recommended until the pup is at least 10 weeks. Remember we are currently in a high risk parvo season and you have no idea if you are walking it into your homes/yards/whelping rooms! You are better to be careful than not to be!
  9. You will notice the difference in the dog foods when they come out the other end too...
  10. My dogs used to eat proplan, then changed to IAMS, then to Advance, in between I tried them on Eukanuba, they didn't like it, lucky i only got a 3kg bag and not wasted too much money, the vet said they didn't eat it cause there isn't enough flavour in it. I love the Rehydratable Advance, and Petbarn currently has a sale on it, buy one get one free... So im stocking up for puppy season!
  11. Seeing there is so much parvo around from the heat and the rain, do you think it is wise to give a litter of pups a parvac vaccination at 4 weeks? then a C3 at 8 weeks? Is it safe at 4 weeks old? The bitch at Milk fever 3 days after birth, so the pups have had to be bottled with biolac, now 3 weeks old and as she still has limited milk, the pups are now on one solid meal a day. Or give them a C3 at 6 weeks and keep them locked up in pen on concrete so they dont feel the grass for 2 weeks. All the pups have homes, and we don't want to loose any due to parvo. Thats why the vaccinations are being given at 6 weeks, and some are going interstate.
  12. When I was fostering, my vet recommended a parvac with my adult dogs, every 6 months, as there was so much parvo coming out of the pounds. Might ask the vet about that istead of a live vaccine, just see what they say.
  13. I feed my dogs tuna in oil as they don't like sardines. where do I get minced rabbit from? I have never heard of it before...
  14. The other half just told me it was all about supply and demand!!!! Can't believe in a 5km radius how the prices differ from each vet, this is South Western Sydney. Vet 1 - $60 for both C3 and MC - Cahords road padstown. Vet 2 - $70 for C3 first pup, $60 for each other that and $55 MC Panania Vets. Vet 3 - $26.40 C3 and $32 MC Bass Hill. Vet 4 - $67 1st pup, $57 2nd pup, $47 3rd pup and remainder for C3, and $45 for MC Fairford Road. And Why does MC vary in prices, they should just have a set price for MC seeing that it is compulsory!
  15. I was just recommended Bass Hill Veterinary Clinic by my Chemist, they say they are extemely clean and it smells like a hospital when you walk in there.
  16. Got a quote tonight from 2 different vets, Im after a C3 and a Microchip, the first vet said $60 for both walk in walk out. The second vet said $70 for C3 first pup, then $60 for each after that. then $55 for MC.... How the hell do vets get away with charging prices like that? how do they stay in business? Just wanted to know what other people actually pay in the Sydney area...
  17. Just to let you guys know, Aldi dog food is made by Bushs, Aldi just put there own lables on it.
  18. I picked them up on the friday, saturday they were vacinated, tuesday they were sick. I have had them nearly 4 weeks now, wormed them last night, and yes we had worms. When I got home from work, they both had very fat bellys yesterday. there is alot of information on the net, if you worm a dog with parvo, it can make them sick. They are due for their second vacination this saturday, but from what i hear and have read, if they have the virus, and they get the injection, it just makes them sick, and im scared that will happen again like the first time. I will speak to the vet on Saturday, the new owners are meeting me there so we can ask the vet all the questions that we have.
  19. Peibe, these both pups already have been rehomed, but I still have them in care cause of quaranteen. The little boy has been desexed already, but the girl hasn't. The 3 of them were adopted by the same people, they already have the one that didn't get ill.
  20. I only feed the pups can food when they come from the pound, and they need to be wormed, Can food goes straight through them and the worms come straight out the other end.
  21. Yeah, 2 out of the 3 got it...The one that didn't has gone to her forever home and the other 2 are being kept in the puppy pen during the day and the bath room at night. Both survived. They are both eating each others poo, and there own. I was reading that it could either be a vitamin/mineral supplement deficiency or they could be ill (with worms etc) However, i dont want to worm them yet, cause he still doesn't seem to be 100%, where she is driving me insane. They are due for another vac next week, is it safe to get them done seeing that they still have the virus? Bec, I read on one of those sites you posted that they can get it again.
  22. sorry guys another question, once a pup has survived this, how long after would it be safe to get her desexed? And they have been eating each others poos, this couldn't be good for them, especially if they are still "sheeding".
  23. It doesn't tell me about the vacine and the positvie testing though. The infected dog, that has been treated must stay away from other dogs for at least 1 month after recovery...thats a long time. and whats the chances of only 2 out of 3 pups in a litter getting it?
  24. Ok, I have heard so many different things about parvo. 1. How long after vacination will the test come back positive to the vacine? 2. When a dog falls ill with this, and have been treated, are they still contagious when they return home? Will the yard need to be cleaned again?
  25. This is and always will be my little girl, she was saddly taken from me by a funnel web spider. She was 1 year and 5 days old. She is a AMsfaff and was chocolate. And thought she was human.
