  1. My dog just returned from an infection of the intestines with a chicken bone, I was worried sick too so know the feeling. She'll be well again , sending her healing vibes.
  2. Hi all, I've just scored a 18.1kg and a 14.55kg Nutrience supreme for 172 bucks! This is from the Best Friends Melton store, NW suburbs of Melbourne. They are having 20% off many dog foods and that is on top of the member 10%. And they have a lot of tetra fish food on clearance too amongst other stuff up to 40%. If anyone wants to get anything, ring them first as the discount is not store wide. I think the Point cook, Maribyrnong stores have the same sale.
  3. Yes I think so, and they are so cute :D WhppetsMum and Coogie, really appreciate the sites! I'm sure I will find something from there!
  4. Thanks Kirty, that's a start.
  5. :) actually I'd be lucky to find her/him with such vague descriptions, prob hundreds here alone own both black and yellow labs  going through the photos, intro and sub-breed forums now and getting distracted by all the lovely photos everywhere, won't be an early night for me for sure
  6. I've found the doler who hadn't logged in since 2009, hope he/she don't mind me borrowing this pic. Have anyone seen collars like these?
  7. I'm wary of unattended tiny fluffy adult dogs mostly. They are the more feisty ones in my area even despite their lower population. If they run close enough to me bearing teeth they'd get a kiss from my boot.
  8. Sorry OT *applause* for doler's patience, I lost mine halfway reading. I think a dog is a animal no matter how one humanised it. OP it really doesn't matter how much you dislike the persons your dobe peed on, peeing on ANYBODY is a no no. Even if you think doggie is doing all a favour, even if YOU assumed he thinks he's doing the right thing, he must be corrected. It's called house rules. A dog gets anxious and confused with flexible rules where he can pee on some guests and not others. You need to seek advise from a behaviourist. Why skip around this suggestion?
  9. Well, Diva does that as well, who doesn't, I do that if I'm hungry enough Right, I can do this, it's simple enough and I'm really good at catching her body language most times . can't do this without her suspecting, will have to see.aussielover, Diva don't play with toys unfortunately. It's never interests her since pup, she's only likes dogs and humans, and smokers Maybe I can try a cigarette butt Can you define "on cue" for me please? I"m curious about the part in bold. I think she don't realise doing it, if that's true I might need to bring her attention to it first but I need to observe her a bit more to see if she's aware of the act at all. Ok, so this is briefly what I'm going to do. I'll set some goals, break down the steps, find the best time and area to train, feed her first then begin with low value treats and start with lovemesideways' suggestion. I may also need to make her aware of the problem before moving on to correct it. Does this sound right?
  10. You may be right here, possibly anxiety and eagerness. that's a very good point PAX, I totally didn't realise the need to break it down and set a goal. Ok I think I'll have a proper plan what to achieve and how to go about it. Thanks dolers, appreciate your words, that should get me going for the time being. I'll bookmark this thread and come back for more input in future.
  11. To be honest I\'m not sure if it\'s not due to stress, I think highly unlikely but I\'m listening. This dog is hardly ever stressed about anything, she ignores things going with the neighbours, firecrackers, airplane noise, loud music, it seems nothing much stresses her. The licking is not BAD to me even though it\'s annoying. The only worry I have is that it has worsen and it distracted her like a mental block, she couldn\'t even think straight when doing the act. So I thought if it\'s not a good thing I\'ll like to nip it now. Hey I will give this a go.
  12. I tried yes and yay etc before, I'm willing to do it again. We didn't have much results previously as she got quickly conditioned with voice praises and tuned it out. The reason why I tried the clicker.
  13. how can I tell if she's stress? she so loves to do all the basic sits and stands for food, what I observed anyway. It's quite consistant since pup, nothing has changed, only the licking got into the process somehow and got worsen. I seriously couldn't recall when it started happening, only noticing it late last year when she's 3.5yrs.
  14. That will be quite difficult as the moment she thinks it's a training (means me giving her a more than say three commands) she starts licking, eager though, she loves training.
  15. Can I use clicker with praise as reward? How do I do that?
  16. I'm fairly certain its the food although not 100% sure. She's in the pink of health, extremely calm and laid back dog. She doesn't lick when she plays, not when I ask her to come to me, to hang around me etc. But we can't do any proper training at all. She'll lick because she knows there's a treat at the end of either the command or the session. So she does what's required peppered with licks and swallows.
  17. I'm getting quite desperate lately, need some ideas. Diva has been very obsessed with food, being a lab I'm not surprise. She has this bad habit of licking lips (sometimes swallow too) at the wrong times. Every command I give she licks her lips. So the sequence go, Sit *lick*, stand *lick*, drop *double lick* *lick agian*. Obviously using food treats as reward has caused this. It's not an issue with us initially but at four years old now it has gone worse, way worse. She's totally obsessed with the licking that she couldn't focus on simple instructions sometimes, she'll go *lick* *swallow* *lick somemore* *look around for food* *lick* then look at me. "Mum what is it you want me to do again?" I started clicker training with her two weeks ago, at the same time with my budgie. Now my budgie has made progress. But Diva as gone backwards, she has associated the clicker with licking! So it became, sit - lick - click - double lick - look at mum. Can somebody direct me to any threads that's mentioned this kind of obsession before? Also I want to wean her off food treats with other things, like playing with a ball instead. Has anybody succeeded with weaning a Lab off treat rewards?
  18. I was a time waster to a lab breeder once in NW melb all because of her attitude! We were genuine in the purchase, made enquiries and arrangements prior after hearing much about her pups, drove all the way in winter with the heater broken down. She made us stand at the gate until she finishes her poo patrol. Then said " They cost 950 dollars each you know? and you must be quick." That's even before we entered the property. We took a look and left, before hopping into the car, she said "back to the nice warmth, huh?" That so made my blood boiled so we bought from someone else. If I see "no time wasters", I'll just move on to the next breeder.
  19. I know of some people who left as well, perhaps they weren't Dolers. The classes were too big anyway. I regretted, my dog have one issue right now that I didn't get any support back when she's a pup even after approaching trainers multiple times. That's history now.
  20. yikes missed it, where can I watch it again, anybody has a copy?
  21. I wouldn't go to FourPawsk9 again, very bad experience, which I won't elaborate here.
  22. I'd recommend Moorholme Park Dog Training Centre Located at 65-125 Bassett Road MELBOURNE AIRPORT (MEL Ref 4 D5)
  23. Just like to give everyone an update. The dog is gone, I haven't seen him for a number of days, not sure what happened. I've rang the RSPCA several times after easter and every time the operator told me the officer in charge will assess the situation and get back to me, nobody rang. I was observing him through out and he got to eat fairly regularly, last week he was given a really big bone too. But the water was still dirty. A few days ago he got fresh water but was soon gone so I'm not sure what happened. I'd try to chase up the RSPCA. efs.
  24. Yes I am doing that now, put it on, record the starting time then check the sound wave later. Thanks everyone, will keep you updated.
