30 odd years ago whenI first moved to the country it was practice for farmers to give their dogs, food free days. Mainly I think because fat working dogs don't have staminar, and can actually die if they are too fat and doing hard days work.
Having said that I don't think it is common practice now, I know with my hubby's working dogs are fed everyday, and most others around this area are the same. Just don't hear of it much.
Although when I first started showing I was told not to feed my dog before the show, keep him keen for treats.

Hi,
just wondering if you can tell me, do you need to be registered as a breeder with ADVANCE to get the puppy packs. I only breed a litter every couple of years, wondering if I need to be registered with them to get the packs for my puppy buyers. ( I am a registered breeder with dogsnsw)
cheers
Yep you have to fill in an online form on their site, & give them all your details as well as your prefix & the breed/s of dog your involved with to become a registered Advance breeder...I don't think you are able to order the packs until you do this.
thanks for clarafying this for me

We saw 3 of what looked like under developed pups on the x-ray. She was mated the 16th March, and ovulated the 14th March as by her prog tests, so that's why I'm pretty confident of dates. She also has no mammary development, which is the first thing the vet commented on, and since I've stopped worrying about how much she eats is looking not at all pregnant.
I know 4 may be a little late, and trust me, it wasn't by choice, but I was not in a position to have puppies around until now.
So should I still be treating her as in whelp? Cos I'm trying to treat her as normally as possible to try and get her back to acting normally. She's still being difficult to get food into, so I guess I worry if there was a puppy left in there that it could be disadvantaged if she's not eating enough.
I still have the free x-ray Tuesday, should I keep the appointment? I'm quite worried about her having multiple x-rays with the radiation, etc.
You say she was mated on March 16, do you mean feb 16?????

BIS was a Dobermann, r/up was I think the Bulldog.
Aust bred in show was an italian greyhound, I only remember that one because I was in there with the hound
It was a lovely day, had a great ringside spot in full shade and with a view over the main arena, weather wasn't too hot or too cold, and I met Mercedes extremely gorgeous Clumber baby.
Scrappynsuzie, was that you who pulled a chair up next to me on the hill? I didn't realise

I've just noticed that my bitch has an uneven number of nipples. 4 on one side and 3 on the other. Anyone else got a bitch with this peculuarity.
Do you think it matters?
thanks

that is just fantastic. I'm just wondering how the "Type" of danes has changed over the 21 years since the sperm was frozen. The sire was a ch then, would he still be good enough now, and how will these puppies stack up against "modern" puppies.
I am not being critical just wondering, as I know that some breeds are different now from twenty years ago.

thanks Tenties. That was who I trying to remember

Hi everyone, hope you all had a great christmas and lets hope 2011 is a great year for dog showing.
I am wondering if there is a dvd/video available for dog showing.
I vaguely remember from a couple of years ago there was something available, but can't remember what its name was or who put it together.
I need to improve what I am doing, (live too far away from the nearest show training group to attend).
hope someones memory is better than mine.
cheers

I am looking to get a new show trolley, and apart from the cc trolleys, which are the best ones on the market, which other ones are recomended.
I bought my current trolley when I first started showing and really paid far too much for it considering the quality
It is very unstable and needs to have the bars rivetted and also aluminium strips attached to make it more stable, which will be happening as soon as OH can get himself organised. But I also need a new trolley, as my number of dogs has increased.
Hope someone can let me in on their secret of the best trolley around.
