  1. and yes now he walks on either side front and back with out lead tightening. Only when he sees another dog is when he starts to pull now. but with a quick tug i make him sit and he sits and watches the other dog. I am not a troll .
  2. and please its just a method and it worked (for me) ... it wasnt imo cruel to my dog. I am not a cruel person i love my dog dearly. However you realise that this topic is about walking dogs, not about my previous post. You are entitled to your opinions and so am i, but dont keep following me around the forums acting like i am the guilty one. I am not a trainer. And i am only trying to help this op walking the dog and found that my trainers METHOD OF WALKING A STUBOURN DOG was great, not pain full and certainly not cruel otherwise i wouldnt have posted this information here . Understand ?
  3. my dog dosent heel all the time .... only when the dog starts to pull on the lead now. "The 4.the minute your dogs head goes past your left leg while walking .stop and tug the lead with a firm tug . Then lift the lead so the dog sits and dont say anything to him or look at him. And stop ." is letting the dog know where you want him to be whilst walking. My dog was the kind of dog that would race up and pull continously on the lead , to the point that it was impossible to walk on lead at all. I was getting dragged be hind him the whole walk. Even falling down on concrette when closing the front door and fraturing my knee (becasue my dog want to just run run run run run. ) When i learnt this method in 30 min my dog walks on lead loosely ..much more better than before ... but still there is an occasional tug . Its only been 3 days for me and i can walk my dog on a field.
  4. one way i have learnt to walk my dog without letting him pull is ... 1. walk the dog near a straight wall... or along a fence . 2.Keep your dog walking and sitting to the left of you. 3. start to walk really really really slowly using left foot first , make sure leash is kept really loose in your left hand and between you and the dog. if dog wont walk .... gently use your left thigh to pull the lead to make him walk. Or use your command "lets go" or "walk" 4.the minute your dogs head goes past your left leg while walking .stop and tug the lead with a firm tug. Then lift the lead up so the dog sits and dont say anything to him or look at him. And stop for a few seconds. 5.pull the dog back behind you , near the left leg. Make him sit again or give sit command . And stop for a few seconds. and start again. remember keep walking slowly, . I learnt this from my trainer and in 30 min my dog didnt pull on the lead. Make sure that the tug is quick, to catch him asap when his head moves past your left leg. And dont tug so that the dog is choking to death. firm quick tug. keep trainning him in back yard ..... then gradually go outside to a feild with out any walls and do the same. Once he starts walking slowly with you introduce him to other distractions. Like walking around your area and do the same.
  5. "well the lady said that majority of the emails where sent to her from DOL. I know there are people who wouldnt have done this , but i am refering to the people who did this. DOL or not dogs online." I said in the other post that i understand that majority of DOL wouldnt have sent her the hate emails. But i was mostly refering to the people who did it. And i know that there are people that are NOT members of the DOL who could have sent her the hate mail, and i am refering to them as well. And when i swore you "F**king Idiots*. I was refering to the people who sent the hate mail. So if you didnt send the hate mail then you shouldnt be offended. Im just frustrated that i asked for advice and it turned into this mess.
  6. well the lady said that majority of the emails where sent to her from DOL. I know there are people who wouldnt have done this , but i am refering to the people who did this. DOL or not dogs online.
  7. I think that it is disgusting, pathetic and atrocious that there were a lot of members from this DOL forum that took it upon themselves to use the website of my trainner, where i (stupidly) posted in the topic discussion about Destraint Therapy to send hate mail to her last night. I did not expect for this to happen, i am shocked as much as she is about this situation, as i was only asking for advice about other forms of training, not for you [deleted] to send this young lady hundereds of hate mail to her email. There was no where that i had stated that this woman had purposely abused my dog. My biggest mistake was in trusting that you people in this forum would have behaved in a better way and only to view her website to see if it was a legitimate one. Not for you to use her email and her phone numbers to abuse her. Now she is fearing for her safety. God job idiots ! ;) :p
  8. ill see what i can do except now the dog tore the leash apart when i took him for a walk. Have to buy a new lead now lol
  9. For some reason my dog hates the lead, like if use the lead to go for walks he straight away tryings to put it in his mouth and starts to chew at it. Or if we are at home and we put him on the lead so that he calms down when hes naughty in the house, he will try to chew the lead off. How do i stop this. I tell him no when he dose this, but it dosent seem to work. And if i were to use chilly he has no problem as he loves chilly lol. Any help

    The Flu

My dogs nose is still runny, and he has almost got rid of the sneezing. He seems more better now, but i will still check on him every now and then. Thanks
  11. my dog is like that. He knows the next neighbours dog and i introduced my dog to his dog. And a month later i showed my dog to the niegbours dog at the front yard and my dog when phsyco at him. Now my dog goes crazy when he sees other people walking their dogs past our house and he howls at them as well. I would like to socialize him with other dogs, but this experience with the neighbour's dog makes me think twice about letting him near other dogs as i cant control him when hes on lead. I fly with him when he lunges forward to the other dog when he goes crazy.

    The Flu

since last night while my dog was sleeping i noticed that he started to breath heavily. And now ever since he has woken up he has been making this noise which sounds like he is clearing his nose. And he sneezes here and there. He also has a runny nose and looks a bit upset. Is this a sign of the flu?
  13. yes he does get walked durring the day. The problem is regardless of walking he will bark anyways. He takes a short nap and hes up for anything again, barking etc. When i tell me other half to take him to dog trainning classes he wont take him. He beleive that the dog dosent need dog training.
  14. he is nine months old. now he is continuosly barking. I stood there by the window watching the road to see what he is barking at now, and there was nothing there only i can hear other dogs barking. How much does ausdogs cost ? cause financially i may not afford to take him there. I live in nsw. Is there one here ?
  15. Sigh, my ACD X Labrador wont stop barking at other dogs. He just goes crazy at them. This afternoon a neighbour across the street was taking his dog to his driveway, when my dog spotted his dog and went bezerk. My dog was so close to jumping over the fence. The owner just stood there with his dog as i tried to get the dogs attention away from the dog by saying no, grabbing the dogs collar and saying no ! throwing a toy for him to chase in the other direction away from the other dog. But still my dog continued to bark at their dog. So i chose to bring the dog into the house. I also heard the next door neighbour complain that my dog is always barking. I dont know what to do anymore with my dog barking. When the dog is inside he never barks. And my OH dosent like the dog to be a permenant inhouse dog. help me please.
  16. Hi I would like to pay a tribute to my cousins dog max which past away due to old age two weeks ago. Poor dog has been a great frind to all of our family and relos espesially. I would also like to remember my dog princess and my 3 cats oatis, ginger and trusty who all past away acouple of years ago. ;)
  17. hes not deaf, he knows his name. He sits when i say roll over he rolls over. I say lie down he lies down. When I say where is your ball ? and he goes to get his ball. If i say bring it back he occasiocally brings back what ever was in his mouth. I say shake he shakes. But he responds well to hand signals for sitting down and lie down. How do i test if he is deaf ? i mean he did hear a water tap dripping when we couldnt hear it in the middle of the night.
  18. I also notice that the dogs type of bark is an agressive bark when its people walking past And he howls as well even when the person is out of sight. He gives a grrrrrrrr also like they are a threat. When its a dog its a normal bark without howling and the grrrrrrr in his barking. When i manage to get him to stop barking and tell him to lie down he gives this whine and looks distressed or upset.
  19. I have an 8 month old australian cattle dog who will not stop barking. In our backyard the dog can get to a staircase which allows him to view the road side over the fence. The problem is that anything that walks past this road he will bark at. I have tried opening the door and tell him NO to sit and lie down. Then he settles a bit but then he starts again when someone or a dog or cat walks past. I used to ignore him when he barked, but it did not make any difference at all. I dont want to buy him a shock collar as i feel that this is cruel to do to animals. Is there any other methods to use to train him to stop barking, or to make him understand that barking at everything that moves is not ok. I know he dosent bark to get my attention because there are times when i do come outside, he completely ignores the fact that i am there telling him off. I thought of maybe putting a cardboard to cover his view but i am not sure if this will work because he can hear things walking and moving too lol. Any help would be good.
  20. Hi, I have been trying so hard to teach my puppy how to walk with me. Atm when i walk with him he seems to get so excited about the trees, grass, leaves anything that is in the park to the point that he wont listen to any commands other than sit. When i tell him to sit, he will sit. And then i say walk. Soon i say that he thinks that its ok to sprint off to anything that is in his direction, to the point that i go off flying with him. Also when walking there are times where he likes to put the leash in his mouth and dirrects me in the dirrection of where he wasnts to go. I have tried to tugg the leash. Stop walking when he starts pulling on the leash. Stop and walk the opposite direction. But nothing seems to be working. hes 7 months old. Atm he knows how to fetch, sit, down, roll over, ball (find his ball) , go get it (he gets his soccer bone squeeky toy). Bring it back. and Stay. And he hasnt gone to a trainning school yet. Any other ideas to walk a dog would be great.
  21. Im just more worries that if i decide to surgicaly castrate the dog he will be more prone to get infections from the cut area .
  22. Yes the tv show "It's Me or My Dog" is where i heard about it from and was wondering if it is a good thing too. But i am only thinking of using this as a last resort for my puppy. If you saw the tv show last night my dog has a similar attitude in the past. I could relate to that lady on the show very well. It would be like my fiance would leave the room and the dog would go beserk on me. And then when my fiance would return, the dog would act like a loving pet. And my dog loves to hump me when he dosent get his way and starts nipping me as well on the knees. My dog is not so bad with the agression now as i can tame him a little bit. But the most anoying thing is when i take the dog outside the house when i want to go back in the house, he tries to get inside .. if i dont let him inside then the dog tries to hump me and then starts to nip me. And gets agro if you take him of the couch. I was wondering also if anyone had it done. Chemical Castration. How much would it cost here in australia to do it?
  23. Has anyone had Chemical Castration used on their male dogs before. Does it work well to reduce agression and male hormones ? And also what are the bad side effects of having this done?
  24. He is an Australian Cattle Dog x Labrador Retreiver
  25. See there is a problem with my dog being inside, one is that the place we moved into, the aggreement is that the dog has to be an outside dog. And also when is time for us to go to bed chewy would rather start playing or bouncing on the bed instead of going to sleep or lie down. However in our previous place he was kind of ok, and would go to sleep if we went to bed (sometimes). And if we do take him inside to sleep in our new house, he will whine to go outside or play in the bedroom. But when hes outside he will whine to get inside. I dont understand my dog at all. Hes very disobedient when he wants to be, very bossy too. We have a metal frame bed for him, but he likes to play with it by dragging it around the house. We have a bed for him similar to this http://doggiehome.us/foldingbed/foldingbed4.jpg And he dosent like to sit on it for very long and if we put a blanket on it he will try to eat it too
