  1. Thanks BlenheimBoy, rubiton and Tess
  2. Can anyone recommend a good photography forum, preferably one more suited/ aimed at amateurs (or not even amateurs- just not professionals)? thanks
  3. The people at the camera shop didn't know what to do so it has now been sent back to Canon. Pity I'm going away next week so won't have my camera, but at least this happened now rather than during the year when I need it for studio arts. Thanks for the suggestions but it looks like I'm just going to have to wait and see what Canon do with it now.
  4. Tried charged battery, tried live view (effectively mirror lock up?), tried new lenses, tried re-formatted card...nothing :D
  5. Google search reveals that it could be anything. Many people have had this Err 99 message appear with different problems. Lens is on correctly and it has happened on two separate lenses. No aperture ring. Old pics on the card can still be viewed- so it doesn't appear to be a card issue. Battery is charging now. Will try it later with a re-charged battery... The shutter click sounds wrong so I think it is likely to be a bigger issue than dirty lens contacts. :D The camera is only a year old- I hope it still has warranty! p.s. thanks for the advice
  6. Today I turned my camera on and took a photo only for "Err 99" to come up on the screen. I tried turning it off and on and also taking the battery out and putting it back in. The battery is now charging but I don't think it has anything to do with it being flat. When I take a photo the shutter click doesn't sound right. :D I have Canon 40D and it has happened on two different lenses. Has anyone had this happen to them? Any idea whats going on?
  7. Wayyyyy too creepy ! Wuss  Those little critters were everywhere ! On some walks (Mt. Buffalo in summer) the branches were over grown and the grubs were literally hanging off every leaf. A bit creepy but very fascinating- just wish I had my macro lens back then!
  8. Wow there are some fantastic pics in here! I love those lizards. I hope insects count 'cause I don't have many other wildlife shots.. too many dog photos (this is very old too- took it back in Jan)
  9. Thanks. I only put the pics together like that because I couldn't decide on a single one and I also didn't want to upload too many. I think the border is actually wonky.. oops The way I put it together was create a blank template (i have no idea what you really call it.. file maybe?) in gimp (don't have PS) then resize the pics I wanted to use and dragged them from a folder onto the template. Sorry if that doesn't make any sense!...anyway its fairly simple- the hardest thing is lining up the pics and making sure the border is even (something I evidently cannot do!). I just threw the hat at Abbie and the pics I posted are about the only ones where she nearly caught it. Most of them are variations of the last one. She wouldn't cooperate for any 'standard' chrissy pics so I thought it would be more fun for her to catch it but all she really wanted to do was go for a walk. The thing in the second pic is a wreath that my mum made. She was less than please when she saw what I'd done with it.... Ruger- awwwww that is adorable! Rocco- That pic is fantastic! Looks so professional.
  10. ..and now for something slightly less conventional... canon 40d, sigma 30mm f/2.5, ISO 400, 1/4000 eta.. and another Clicking Mad- The beach pic is great! :D
  11. Some great pics on here. Love the second toy photo Rocco. If we're still taking entries here are a couple from today... Canon 40D, 50mm f/1.8, tripod, remote, Canon speedlite 230ex pointed at ceiling. f/8, 1/250, ISO 400
  12. Nice work everyone! I took these pics last week before this thread was started but they fit anyway. Sorry there are so many! Canon 40D, 50mm f/1.8, tripod (which was wonky- arrg!), remote, Canon speedlite 230ex bouncing off ceiling [Gosh! with all that gear my pics should look so much better lol- just shows its the photographer not the equipment that counts ] f/11, ISO 400, 1/250, no editing Food dye
  13. ClickingMad- Love the biscuit shots! LOL, i often bake and well, this was just another excuse...
  14. any excuse to bake.... canon 40d no editing f/6.4, ISO 400, 1/19, tripod f/6.4, ISO 400, 1/15, tripod
  15. Nice work everyone. I really like the remote pic Rocco- so cute! Hope you dont mind if i join, my efforts are not very good... these are just the results from boredom today lol Biscuits Canon 40D. Tamron 90mm . No editing f/11, ISO 400, 1/2 sec (tripod) more... and i couldn't resist... (f/6.4, 1/6 sec ) Remote f/4, ISO 1000 (no light in the room and i couldn't hold my hand still enough for a longer exposure), 1/19 sec
  16. I'm currently just looking to see whats out there, if there is a lens that is really good and suits my needs then maybe I will pay a little extra for it. So for budget probably under $1000 although possibly more if it had a lot going for it (ie. type of lens both me and my family would use so we can share etc). As for subject matter, well whatever i can get my hands on i guess. I don't have anything specific in mind however i guess I would probably use plants, flowes, insects, spiders as subjects. I just shoot whatever i can.
  17. Thanks for the advice. I have a Canon BTW.
  18. As the title states, does anyone have any advice for someone looking for a good (but not too expensive) macro lens? thanks.

So sorry to read this.
  20. I have one dog and up until recently we have been competing in agility. We haven't done any training or trials for about two months now and its looking like we wont be going to any more any time soon. I'm really busy with school work :D this year plus I work and play soccer and netball so dog activities are getting pushed to the end of the que. If I really wanted I could still continue with agility (ie. use time like now to do something useful! ) but I'm loosing motivation for everything these days so that wont happen unless I pick up my game now! The worst thing is I don't even have any motivation to do agility any more which really sucks because I want to want to do it (ha if that makes sense).
  21. Sorry I can't help you but my BC does a similar thing. When walking with me she doesn't pull and behaves nicely. When my parents are with me however, she pulls and has to be in front. I'm interested to hear the replies.
