  1. Some other things that I use that have't been mentioned are wash the area with Malsaab and ensure you dry the area completly (use a hairdryer) and using cortisone creme just the 0.5% stuff from the chemist. If any of these things don't dry out the spot within a day or two - go to the vet for some antibiotics.
  2. Didn't think of Eulactyl Heel Balm, I will try this too. Wow SAS, I have never seen anything like that. Someone was creative the day when they thought of that. It would give my boy a new hobby that's for sure - trying to find his way out of it. Maybe I should look at some products that will help get the oil out of the coat.
  3. Thanks Labsrule, I'll try that and see if it is easier to get out of the coat. It is not for trying with the bedding, they have snooza beds, cool champion mats, drybed, towels, carpet etc but for some reason these can't compete with longterm lying on concrete and tiles. Dogs!!!
  4. Hi All, Has anyone found a cream/ointment to aid callouses on dogs elbows that is not too oily and sticky. One of my goldies callouses has cracked/opened up and I have been using sea minerals demal ointment. I find this works well except it is so oily and sticky on the coat, which creates it's own problems. I find trying to get this grease out of the coat difficult especially as I don't want to make the elbows any sorer. I know soft bedding would be the best solution, however this is just a little difficult at the moment in FNQ no matter what types of beds I provide my goldies will always choose the tiles or concrete. Cheers
  5. I too can recommend Liza Sergeev and found her to be extremely knowledgeable. Just wish she was in Townsville
  6. Thanks for all the reply's I will see how he is today, he looks to have left in alone overnight. Yes the vet may well be the right option. It is really comforting to know that when you find these things out of hours that there are people on here with good ideas to help in the interim
  7. I hadn't thought about a grass seed, so I will double check to make sure. Thanks It does seem to be a problem when he walks, because it keeps spreading. I do have some bandages in my 'pet first aid kit' but not sure the he will be happy to keep this on.
  8. Hi all, Any idea's if anything can help my boy? He has split the webbing between his toes. Poor thing it must be sore as he is doing alot of licking at it. I have looked and cannot see anything causing irritation now, I am not sure what if anything caused it to split. Thanks in advance
  9. I had been using Advantix for 2 months and was getting ticks so swapped to Frontline Plus only to find I have the same problem. Just googled Permoxin and this sounds like it could help. Can anyone advise on this - does this mean 40 parts Metho as a rapid drying spray???? DIRECTIONS FOR USE Dilute to 1:40 (as directed by label) in water, or methylated spirits if a rapid drying spray is required. Spray or rinse as directed.
  10. Hi all, I am sure that this topic has been covered before, but I could use some help as I have just moved to an area that has ticks. Currently I am using Frontline plus once a month on the dogs and am bathing them in Fido's Tick and flea wash, however I am still pulling ticks of the dogs. Could it be that I am lessening the effect of the frontline with the tick wash/ and or regular bathing during the month? All help appreciated, Cheers edited for spelling
  11. I appreciate everyone's advice, thanks so much. I do have to ask more questions though... Today the sore is no longer weeping, and has crusted over and is starting to look like a scab. Is this what it's meant to look like?. The area feels warm/inflamed but doesn't look infected, would this be beacuse the area is starting to heal?
  12. Great advice, thanks everyone for the different treatments. I take it that hot spot's are just one of those things? I have had goldies for about 4 years and this is my first dog to get one. Would you say some dogs are just more prone to it than others?
  13. No don't clip her. Their coat is really managable with regular grooming, and dirt just brushes out.
  14. Great Thank you I will get some tomorrow. Is it going to make things worse, bathing and blow drying him on Friday for a Show on Sat??
  15. Hi I have just discovered my first hot spot on one of my goldies. I have never experienced this before though I do know enough to recognise that this is what it is. I know hardy anything about treating it so any help/suggestions would be appreciated. It has come up on my 8 month puppy which I show, so I would like to avoid if possible having to shave off too much coat. It has come up on the back of his neck, so I think it is unlikely that he is able to lick at it, I have removed a small section his coat in this area, about the size of a 5 cent piece, and have bathed it with a green teabag (I read this somewhere). Thanks
