Hoping someone can help. Just went past royal park station and saw a brindle whippet ( or larger Iggy) standing in the bush next to the tracks. It had a collar and tags and looked so scared. Please pass this on to anyone in the area.

I'm with Kavik, recipe for disaster and they do happen. Dogs killed by other dogs, chased onto roads, people bitten trying to fend off dogs not to mention the number of behaviour issues like Snook mentioned. Sounds dramatic but it pays to be aware. It can be good fun but I feel for it all to align with good owners and good dogs and no-one else interrupting is too rare. I avoid off lead dogs at the park unless it's a one on one and I am confident in how the other dog and mine will interact. Shudder when I see young pups being thoroughly traumatized, you know who's going to grow up the next park bully. But back on topic I believe, the lists at the start of this thread are all great and if everyone followed these dog parks would be much improved.

Thought I was going to vomit, that was awful footage. Such a relief that GAWS is in new hands. Not sure i'm going to enjoy hearing from the commercial breeder....

Good on you for trying to avoid the situtaion and getting your dogs attention in an effective manner. I would have done exactly the same. Trying to explain to someone their dog is behaving rudely is very tricky. Hard to do it tactfully especially when you're trying to avoid said dog getting to your own. And yes Flexi-leads in busy streets are a really bad idea. No problems with them or a long line in an open park, fields, woods etc.

Hi Katdog, I was asking about undercoat rakes on here recently. Didn't want to go furminator route for the potential damage to top coat you mentioned. I bought a rake very similar to the picture and am very pleased with it. It really does only remove undercoat and very thoroughly. I use it for my Labrador and moggies and I can see the coat is less dull. Happy grooming!

Thanks Vehs, Not certain on dogs except Central Asian Ovcharka once I get my space! My prefences tend to be double coats. Glad to hear you don't think price makes a big difference :)

Hi all, Am doing some shopping around for undercoat rakes. Currently would use it on a Lab and the cats but I expect to own more double coated dogs in the future. There seems to be big price differences between the professional grooming brands(over $40) versus the 'pet' brands(around $12). Is there a big difference? Do they all have rounded tips to avoid cutting coat or irritating skin? Is the length of teeth important? Did try a search but didn't find anything, if there are threads on this please direct me there. Thank you for any and all opinions!

I have a 12 yr old Lab and 14/15 yr old terrier mutt. Benefit of two oldies together is they both need shorter slower walks but the combined meds bills for joint issues and heart problems is huge! Next time I'd try for a slightly bigger gap.

Ditto, sometimes it's the fosters that were recognized as not being able to cope at the shelter or needed the extra work to become rehomable.

Thanks for everyones input. Not something I'd ever experienced but I guess it's good to know what can happen. It was frustrating how little the mother did even when the boy was shoving me hard. Whole thing could have been avoided if she'd been with him to help him understand why he couldn't pat every dog. My dog isn't a danger, he's going deaf and blind and startles easily. If I had a stranger agressive dog which I couldn't handle I wouldn't be down at the local, very busy, park.

Hi all, Just interested in how other people would have handled this scenario and what the legal implications would be. I'll try keep it brief. Crossing the carpark at my local park (not near other dogs) a boy (adolescent size but in primary school gear) sees me and my dogs and heads towards us leaving his mother (?) and dog. I keep walking assuming she'll call him to come back. He catches up to me and reaches toward my small old dog who is on lead. I say 'don't touch that one' (blunt but he caught me by surprise and was right over the dog.) He wouldn't listen and got angry, kept shoving me and trying to get to the dog with determination. I kept telling him not to. I called to the mother the dog isn't friendly. She's slowly coming and asking him what he thinks he's doing. I pick up small dog and keep moving. Eventually I hear him call out "sorry". So in my non-expert opinion he had autism. I wish i'd asked if she knew how easy it would be for him to get hurt. No harm done but I'm imagining the scenario with future dogs and wondering about the outcome given his size and the fact he was physically going after me. Not sure if i should have tried to distract him with questions or what would have helped. Felt like I needed to share this.

Another TPLO here. My Lab who is now 11 had her left hind done at around 4 years. We went with the Melbourne Specialist Vet in Mount Waverly. Recovery is long and took alot of effort. As others have said it's takes patience but is worth it. My girl now has arthritis on her operated knee and puts less weight on it. I wonder now if persevering with physio excerises for longer may have helped strengthen her leg more. Best of luck with it. Hope your clown behaves during recovery :D

Just to add something to else to look at (unfortunatly both USA), though I know K9Pro and Ruthless do great stuff. I have a couple leather leads from Leerberg which I'm very happy with and trust their strength. And if you're after something non-leather, my custom lead from Blocky Dogs is ace
