  1. Fantastic little dogs, full of character and life but not big on the obedience side of things. When you think Peke, think single minded, determined little critters who march to their own drum! :) Very Oriental!

    Enjoy!

I have to disagree about the obedience. I trained several pekes up to trialing standard when I was breeding them in the 80's-90's. They were very easy to train & eager to work. Sadly, divorce stopped me from trialing them but I think that they would have got their titles easily.

Several have got their obedience titles in Australia & I know of one in America that went through to UD.

The biggest problem I had was the inability of the older peke breeders in Victoria being unable to accept that they could be trained for anything but showing.

  2. Do any vets do it or are only certain vets equipped with the gear?

If only certain vets do it, does anyone know of a vet on the Sunshine Coast who does? Looking at getting Montu scored in a few months.

When we get our GSD's done we use the Clifford Park vets in Toowoomba even though we live in Cairns. They have a frame that the dog lies in to get the correct position & they will take xrays till they get the best one.

  3. We used mesh to make a pen for our last litter but 1 pup worked out how to climb out then she showed another girl how to do it. It didn't matter how high the sides were she would climb out as soon as she was put back in. Will have to work out something differant for the next litter.

We were going to keep a pup from that litter but couldn't decide between the 3 girls so we ended up keeping both of the adventurous girls. Now one of them worked out how to climb over a 5' chainwire fence at 4 months.

  4. I live in Cairns and until recently I would take my GSD's to Brisbane to see Rowan Kilmartin whenever they had problems as he is the best. Now we have a chiro in Cairns (Liza Sergeev) who trained under Rowan & is brilliant. I still see Rowan whenever I am in Brisbane with my dogs for shows, but the rest of the time I see Liza.
