  1. Did you end up donating it to someone or is it still available?
  2. Is anyone located near Texas, QLD that can do a yard check on behalf of Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue?
  3. Dogue de Bordeaux rescue is still the same and still operational. www.ddbrescue.com We have also helped rehome a couple of Neapolitan Mastiffs, and some Dogue de Bordeaux crosses.
  4. I agree with all the Nobul has put above, but just an update on the link posted at the end of her answer. The page is now located at: www.dogueinfo.weebly.com That page is a very valuable resource in terms of information on the breed.
  5. I haven't been able to post this for a while, but here goes. On the 8th of November 2013, we lost our matriarch, Viva. She passed very suddenly at home. We think it was her heart. She was fine one minute and gone the next. Viva was our rock. She was top dog, but gentle as a lamb. She took in all our foster dogs, and had a special calming effect on them. She knew they were afraid and let them know they were in a good place. Viva was also a great ambassador for the breed. She attended pet expo's and despite her enormous size (she was 70kgs), she was gentle with kids and other dogs. She also helped many kids overcome their fear of dogs, like I said, she had a special calming quality, coupled with her soulful eyes, and it just made it so easy for her to ease their fear. She was one in a million. The easiest dog I've ever owned. Easy to live with, never did a thing wrong. No problem off lead. Just easy. And she used to just lie around the house like a rug, you'd just step over her, and she'd move her tail to let us know that she knew we were there, but she didn't need to get up. We don't know what we'll do without her. Rest easy my special big girl. Until we meet again.
  6. Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue Australia has it's 2014 calendars available for sale. It is the first year we have got a corporate sponsor so 100% of all sales go to rescue. Dogzonline has also kindly supported us, hence the DOL logo on each page :-) If you are interested in a calendar please head to this link for information on how to order: www.ddbrescue.com/calendars There are also a couple of sample pages there for viewing. Calendars are A4 size (fold out to double that) and are wire bound.
  7. Anyone in or around Shellharbour (about 30 mins south of Wollongong NSW) that can do a yard check for Dogue de Bordeaux rescue can you please PM me. Thanks.
  8. Having made our Dogue Rescue 'official' in July last year, you are right, you don't 'need' an ABN or anything else, however, you DO need a CFN (charity fundraising number) if you are asking for donations. We also got an ABN as we also registered for gift recipient status (where all donations are also tax deductible for the donors). We were however, running this rescue for many years out of our own pockets by a number of breeders however, as the numbers increased we needed donations, and in order to ask for them LEGALLY, we had to obtain a CFN.
  9. We had someone find a dogue de bordeaux in awful condition that didn't want to surrender it to a pound for fear it would be put down or that the owner was mistreating it and they didn't want to go back. I explained that it is law that they must surrender it. I told them to surrender it, and then let me know which pound, and I will put my name down immediately. They surrendered to Hawkesbury. The owner did find her there, but after arguing over the fees to get her out, they decided to just abandon her there, I got her out and got her fixed up and adopted. Surrendering is not always a death sentence (although it does depend where they take them) but I always suggest taking them to the pounds that I've worked with and where I know I can get them back out from :) In another instance, the dogue was actually stolen over a year before, so the actual owners were not responsible for the dogs condition or their escape, they were thrilled when the pound called (as the microchip info was up to date and the dog listed as stolen) and they rushed down to collect. Any stray should always be surrendered - it gives their family the best chance of finding their pet.
  10. Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue have ours coming in this week. All details and an example is here: http://www.ddbrescue.com/2013-calendars.html
  11. We sure do. If you go to the rescue page the link to Facebook is on the home page.
  12. Just thought I should post here, that Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue is now an official recognised charity. We are able to fund raise, and donations are tax deductible. We would welcome any donations to assist with the vet care of these dogues. To that end, we have a heap of dogues in need of new homes at the moment (and one very handsome DDB x Mastiff named Ranger in WA). Please visit our site for more details: www.ddbrescue.com We have also not yet posted details on the website of a litter of week old puppies, who we think may be pure bred (mother was and puppies look like it too). There are 4 at the moment, and we hope they will all pull through and will be available for adoption. We will be looking for special homes in Victoria for these little guys. If you are interested in any of the dogues currently available, please fill out our rescue application form. Thanks to everyone who emails/messages me privately advising me of dogues in need as I can't normally keep up with all the posts here. Genuine thanks to those that think of us. Jo.
  13. Agree with Jed. Yes, there may be nothing they can do, but at least it's on file.
  14. Dogue de Bordeaux Rescue has a policy that if the dog has papers they must contact the breeder first. We've only had a couple where the breeders didn't want to take them back and they've come through us. Majority of our dogs have been unpapered, and we have helped with rehoming a couple of crosses. Most people on our waiting list want the dog to at least look like it's got DDB in it, so although we do assist with crosses, we assess them based on what they look like and their temperament. We've been contacted a couple of times by pounds that have got a dog chipped as a DDB but when I've gone there its clearly been a pitbull probably chipped and registered as a DDB to get around the BSL laws so we have to be sure the dog actually looks like it could be a DDB or a cross before we'll take it on.
  15. Treasurer can't audit own accounts. Have all the paperwork and know the requirements. I've had someone contact me so fingers crossed he's happy to do it, if not I've got some back up options. We've been running the rescue for about 6 years but never on donations (we sold calendars to top up our funds every year) but as people keep asking how they can donate I figured we should make it official so we can accept donations.
  16. Our treasurer is a former accountant, and our Transactions are not huge in amount or quantity so our records are easy to audit. An auditor/accountant is a requirement for a CFN but obviously our treasurer can't audit her own accounts :-) It's also a brand new account so it's starting from scratch.
  17. I know of an 11 mth old male with papers that I was contacted about. Message me if you want further details.
  18. Thanks Sas. Ours is pretty easy and basic and not many transactions. Well at least not at the moment *knocks on wood*
  19. Can anyone recommend an auditor/accountant that is used by other rescue groups to audit their books for a minimal fee. Private responses are fine. Thanks, Jo.
  20. Just my 2 cents from someone who barely posts here, but is involved in my breed rescue and has been involved in rescue, since 2003. I DO thank all the volunteers who post. Without that there would be several Dogues who probably would have either gone into the wrong hands, or euthanised. However, I have been contacted by both volunteers and pounds themselves regarding a Dogue de Bordeaux they apparently have, only to find it's not. I clearly remember going to Blacktown to look at a Dogue de Bordeaux they wanted me to take, only to be faced with an aggressive pitbull who - even if it was a Dogue, I would not have considered rehomeable. I wouldn't have even been able to take him home!! Another example was an actual dogue in QLD who I was told about but was also told she was aggressive. I asked a breeder who was local to the pound to go and look at her, and this breeders temperament assessment was VERY different. She was rescued and rehomed. This is why I think it's important that I do MY OWN research on each and every dog that I am contacted about, and not rely only on the listings here (appearance, health or temperament). They are a good guide - but I will ALWAYS ask someone I know locally, or go myself, to ensure the dog is being represented correctly, and suitable for me to rehome. I think it's great that the volunteers list all these dogs here in the one place making it easy for rescue to have a large overview on what out there and what's urgent - but I think responsibility on what actually gets removed from a pound by a rescue org, rests solely with that rescue.
  21. No. Only exhibitors were allowed to bring their dogs.
  22. Do you mean run the stand or bring your dog to the stand ect? For both i would think you would have to be a member of your breed's club and yes i assume they won't want an unpapered dog rep'ing a breed. Happy to be corrected if i am wrong. I'd agree with that but you don't have to have a dog present on the day to help out. Lots of clubs prefer owners who are members of their local Canine Council with papered dogs, as they 'need' those members to stay affiliated (it's one the of requirements). However, there are associate memberships with most breed clubs that anyone can join under, and still be included and help with these sorts of things, however, they may not have voting rights. Different clubs have different opinions on owners of unpapered dogs. I know that I like to educate people and hope the next time they will make different choices, and I think banning them from being involved in a breed club because of this makes us look like we are elitist and can often do more harm than good. We had plenty of unpapered Rottweilers turn up for the Rotty Fun Days when I used to run them for the Rotti Club - and I didn't care :-)
  23. If you're talking about the Rogue Royalty stand - I was there about 10am. The guy has a Bordeaux on his flyer, and my prefix is Roguedogue, so we had to have a chat and I had to get some T-Shirts ;) BUT Leanne, who was with me, also went down later, and she actually bought a collar - so I think you might have seen her.
