    Everything staffy!
  1. Ruthless that looks interesting. Do you know anywhere up North to do this? Just got another little rescue staffy pup with all the energy of Blizzard! Might take them both.
  2. I have a little staffy who is all of 22months old. She's the highest energy dog I have come across for some time. She has bursts of energy so she's not a distance girl, but she recovers quickly for her next burst of energy. She's not got the highest attention span either. She's the baby of our pack of 6 staffies - each with their own favourite activity but young Bliz needs to find her niche. Any suggestions on which sports would be good for her (she likes her home alone so maybe a pulling sport) and she's not what I'd call water crazy although she's saturate herself if she's sees and opportunity to later jump on you! Good with other dogs and with all humans - although can be a little dominant when first meeting strange dogs. Doesn't fight them, just wants to hump them! We live near Newcastle NSW.
  3. Also try the rescue forum - they'll have plenty to pick from - some even as close as Wagga
  4. Is there anywhere up North a little - like Newcastle NSW?
  5. This sounds like the best fun. I have a cattle x staffy who I think would be perfect. Is there anywhere near Newcastle NSW to do herding that you know of?
  6. Does anyone know if there are agility and/or flyball lessons at Lake Macquarie (near Morriset) in NSW?
  7. Have a couple of chew toys (or even a pigs ear) close on hand. Every time he starts biting your hands etc, swap your hand for the toy or ear and praise him. If he goes back to biting your hand, get up and walk away (ignore him). It won't take long for him to get the idea. Hope that helps.
  8. I have 5 staffies, all had the same ability to chew everything in sight, in fact my youngest is 13 weeks and she's been through 4 leather shoes, 3 belts, handbag, cords, leads - anything she can get her little teeth into. I think puppy stage is a little like labour. You forget the pain when they get older so you go back to the cute stage again - the puppy. My eldest is 13 years and he went through the same. Your pup sounds like his little mind is going a million mile an hour. I think you may need to teach him to relax and settle a bit. Don't acknowlege him when you get home until he's a rest - sitting quietly or laying on the ground. It's really hard at first, but they get better. Each time he jumps at you during this process, direct him away without ever making eye contact. Establish that you are leader and this is your space. You choose when to have anyone in that space, not him. When he relaxes and is laying on the ground, then and only then call him to you for pats and cuddles. Establish that he gets things when he is calm, not when he is eratic. This exercise is one of many you can do. My quickest one to pick up the being at rest technique took all of 7 minutes, my longest 1 hour and 23 mins (longest time I've ever had a dog to pick it up!) It works well and I highly recommend it. I'm currently going through the process again at the moment with my pup. It's all a matter of pre-empting what they might be able to get at - all in all, hard work.
