  1. In some breeds there is a big difference between how dogs are judged at a Breed Specialty and the All Breeds Ring.

Rottweiler and GSD Specialists - only touch the dogs for teeth, testicles and coat texture - unless they want to clarify with their hands what their eyes are seeing in regards to faults.

However, if you have a Specialist judge who happens to be judging at an All Breeds Show, they are required to be hands on - because that's what is expected of them as a Judge.

Gerard O'Shea could not understand why such importance was placed on spending so much time going over dogs - being that dogs with constructional faults will show these during movement -(even coated breeds).

Woofenpup, at the barest minimum the judge should have checked teeth and testicles.

  2. Bliss,

I know you are finally running free through the long lush grass with no pain or sorrow. There are no fences to keep you in, no need for rules now sweet girl. Playing safely and happily with Zed, Rip and Apollo. An endless supply of squeaky toys and balls for you - make sure you share them and don't hog them all girl.

Fly free and high on your Angels Wings, til we meet again.

  3. On the 26th of Feb 2005, I delivered you into this world, a squirmy bundle of new life held in my hands – today, on the 26th of Feb 2008, I held you tightly in my arms as you were delivered back with Angels Wings.

You were so impatient to be born into this world. How could I ever forget panicky scream from your human Nanna – “I can see legs hanging out”. Sure enough, my first vision of you was your tiny little pink padded feet dangling out.

You left this world far far too soon.

We had many challenges in your short life, and we got through them together.

There is a huge hole in my life just now, but I know that the pawprints you have left on my heart, will, with time, heal and fill the hole.

You will always be a Champion V rated baby in my eyes, and that’s where it is most important.

Run free my boy dog, you have forever to play hard, fast and full on.

    Forever etched in my heart.

I would like to Thank everyone for their kindness and compassionate thoughts for Zed as he bravely battled to stay amongst us.

  5. cavNrott,

Great to hear that Sophie is doing well!!

sounds like she is doing much better than expected :D

Give her a big hug from me!!!

    Wolfgirl,

great news about Pearl with no tumours etc!!!

Hope you do get to the bottom of it though,

it is not nice not knowing either :(

Give her a big hug from me!

Maia and I went to get some cuddles from Zed today :D

we let the 2 of them play off leash and they were just adorable :D

they met in the middle of the air, licked each other, shared a drink bowl together,

then Zed decided it was time to get down to boogy ;)

he proceeded to hump maia

left when he was called off like the good boy he is ;)

when he realised he was not allowed to hump her,

he couldn't stop sniffing her crotch :D

they followed each other around the yard, did a bit of chasing.

they would go off in seperate directions,

only to meet in the middle again and explore the areas the other had been exploring to see what the big deal was ;)

they would both come bolting to ZnQ and myself,

we cleverly moved out of the way to avoid being knocked over ;)

then i was miss popularity as they both bounced in my face getting cuddles,

then it was ZnQ's turn to be Miss popularity

cause they are considerate and didn't want her feeling left out :D

it was then decided that Z had had enough and was time for him to go back into his trailer,

Z did NOT agree with this decision and was looking at Maia all forlorn :p

as ZnQ lifted him into the trailer, well kind of lifted him while he dug his heels into the ground

Maia stood in a beautiful self stack watching him and waiting to see if he required her help :p

I told her it was ok, so she sat but did not take her eyes off him.

even as he was shoved into the trailer they both watched each other.

    once Z was inside,

Maia bolted over to the door and they proceeded to kiss through the door

Thanks ZnQ for allowing Maia and I to have that time with our beautiful boy.

I know Maia and I enjoyed ourselves and it was certainly therapeutic for me to spend that time with you guys!

Oonga, Thank You for bringing Maia over to spend some quality time with Zed.

Much appreciated by both of us.

cavNrott, sadly Zed doesn't have heaps of energy :) but I decided that he needed some quality time with his girlfriend, which was important for both Zed, Maia, Oonga and myself.

Zed is not doing very well at all, it's a case of qualilty over quantity now.

  6. Hi Nytewynd.

Addison's Disease is when the adrenal glands do not work as normal for unknown reasons. Animals under this condition are normally not able to produce enough corticosteroid and aldosterone by the adrenal glands. Cortisol is a natural "happy drug". It helps animals to get through any stressful situation by increasing blood sugar and relieving pain. Aldosterone enzyme works on the kidney to balance blood sodium and potassium levels which are critical to muscle and heart activity. Therefore, most affected animals do not show any symptom unless they undergo a stressful situation, such as another sickness.

The clinical signs are vague, so it can be just from being unwell, inactive, off food to vomiting, diarrhoea, drinking /urinating a lot, and abdominal pain. This can be managed by taking supplementary hormone tablets and checking blood electrolytes regularly.

A friend's dog was diagnosed with Addison's in January. She had recently undergone a hip replacement operation at 19 months of age.

At the moment she is on 5mg Delta Cortef daily, and .52mg of Florinef daily.

  7. cavNrott, Zed is getting through each day. He is up and down a fair bit at the moment. Each day is different. He is a quiet and solemn dog of late, prefers his own company now, which is hard for me to accept, but that is his way.

Hope Sophie is doing as well as she can.

Grumpette, i will give Zed those hugs tomorrow for you.

  8. Bluepoppy,

    From Kiesha to you.

Mum, I am looking down on you, and I see your tears. Please don't be too sad Mum, I will be happy here.

It is wonderful here Mum. There is soft grass - lots of it! Perfect for running and rolling in. There are streams with flowing water to frollick in - and no drought up here Mum. They tell me the Sun always shines here too.

There are so many new friends for me here Mum. I haven't had a look around everywhere yet Mum, but it sure is heaven!

There is lots of good food and heaps of toys to share with all my new friends.

Gosh Mum, you sent me to the bestest place. I feel so good - I am not sick anymore. My head no longer hurts, I am light on my feet and everything is so clear now.

I miss you already Mum, I will miss you everyday. When I see that you are sad Mum, I will send down a sunbeam to you.

I'll keep watch over you and Dad and that troublesome brother of mine. I am never far away, even though you cannot see me.

I've got lots of living to do here Mum - until you get here - then our journey can continue on together.

Love from your special girl Kiesha xxxxxx

I have been going to George with my dogs for 25 years, he is a wonderful man.

  11. Hey Shelly, part of Anzac's problem is that he is tooooo busy gawking around  We need to do more focus work with him.

Because he has the tendancy to swing his body away from you when you try to sit him, I would be walking him along a fenceline, or your hallway at home, and making him sit. Having something solid to the left of him will not allow him to swing away from you.

Given that he is not food driven (except maybe for my liver bread) and still has an evasion to the clicker, i would be hesitant in using this method, just for now. Continue to de-sensitize him to the clicker at home.

You are doing well with Anzac. We can do some work with him on Saturday, if you like.

  12. A very good friend of mine is about to have her 14 month old curly coated retriever operated on for HD. She is having a hip replacement done - to the tune of $5,000. She cannot afford the $5,000 in one go, so they have arranged a payment plan for her. If she had of been an older girl, then they would not have the surgery done.

Fingers crossed it all goes well for them.
