  1. A firm believer in Confortis. Miss PC was down to blood and skin before we started her.. 6 months later.. clear skin and full coat and not a flea within 25 sqm.. not even the neighbors dogs !! Two doses and no residual fleas for in house MEDIUM sized dogs. WE SWEAR BY IT. When a vet is scratching his head at what to do with an OCD dog with flea and mite itch dermatitis.. CONFORTIS..

  3. Thank you.. shall do.. She is fine this morning.. just looks like some mangy moth eaten junk yard dog.
  4. Was walking a pot of hot leg wax out the front yard (dogs were with Miss 6 in backyard..) when Miss 6 opened door let dogs in and Lola bundled into me and I spilled leg wax on one dogs withers.. No scalding of skin but wax is still stuck in coat (thank god for a double coat) right down to skin. Have bathed her, cut back excess hair. How does one get the remainder of the wax out of the coat or should I just try and cut the hair back to the lilly white skin underneath and leave her with bald patches. I have some neocort..wondering if this would help if there is any sensitivity for the scalding. Vet does not open til Monday. She is fine.. just waxy..
  5. If it smells clean, looks new or expensive or cant be replaced easily the love it dont ask me why they generally do.. I have lost count of the shredded matts, blankets, doonas, pillow slips, doona covers, towels, pillows and lounges etc etc and with two bitches if it belongs to one after the struggle.. then the other pees on it for ownership.. it does pass.. eventually
  6. Yep..Staffies and alot of the bullbreeds MUST BE WITH THEIR PACKS.. My two sang better arias than Maria Callas.. I caved and have had nights of peaceful contentment since..
  7. No PC is the brindle pig dog reject on the chain (the only time I could get that close to get a snap was to restrain her otherwise it is tail whip and lick kiss central) The one looking contrite is Lola.. she always looks like she is the good girl until she eggs or starts PC (Problem child) off and on to do something norty... No mum I had nothing to do with that destruction/chaos ;) Its all PC.. shes the bad one..
  8. We now have purple poo... I was wondering what the hell it was until I worked it out..
  9. PC has just raided the 5YO's stash of bubblegum (2 packs) ..given to her by her doting grandfather the other day (despite it being a no no) and she left it on her bedside table which was then snorted up by her beloved and always hungry PC... It shouldent be a problem should it? Bloody dog... eats anything..
  10. Same as everybody else.. my girls are the closest of dogs.. except when it comes to food or bones.. separate or there will be the need for a urgent and very expensive day at the vet.. My girls had a major spat (over dominance issues) at 10 months and cost me a small fortune for week or two.. Is your dog desexed yet???
  11. Just saw this.. Labs do like to eat, but within the mass growth period I would be feeding more than the 'pet shop' recommendations.. ask your vet.. My girls at 4 months were having 1 lamb shank per second day, lamb brisket or flaps to chew in addition to their three times daily meals.. and then there was puppy milk and our vegetable off casts as well as fresh mince with egg, and our excess meat requirements.. Mine arnt labs, they are working dogs of varying degrees :D and I have never had an issue with being hungry or the vet concerned about being over or under nourished.. Once your dog is through the mass growth period and after desexing I would cut back the food to the twice daily feeds..
  12. I know its a long way away - but Moree show has it every year..it is in July I wanted to enter the dogs in it next year.. The Kelpies tend to excell at it, but so do some of the big pig dogs...
  13. Same here, I found doing it like this when they were little got them used to be poked and prodded somewhat.. We use Advantage Plus.. but not until they were bigger.. up to the age of 16 weeks they were on hand fleaing
  14. if you dont want ants getting into food bowls then place them in a shallow dish of water...
  15. We have the same problem with Lola with men and boys. But she is is the guardian of the family and only bails and barks if there is something she does not like or if she is given the guard command.. with the ferals around here it is one command I am glad to have given her. She does not do it with children, the elderly, women or family members and she does have a drop command. That said this behaviour did not start until she was desexed and the 5yo started school. I would either encourage it as in under a command word or discourage it completely. A dog that does it is just doing what comes naturally but i believe you must be in a control position to either remove the dog from the situation or have a drop command.. With the feral component we have around here and the time that she spends with myself and the 5YO on walks or at the park.. we have had reason to use the command when we were threatened.. she dropped immediately once the threat passed.

I dont know what age they are supposed to stop doing it to each other but to the human members of this pack it was sporadically by 4 months and that was it.. never again.. ever.. The still do it to each other in play fight, but not the us, not the family. Not acceptable..
  17. Staffys are really family dogs and love to bond with the family as a pack so perhaps keeping him with you as much as possible is a 'better' idea if you dont want to crate him.. we didnt and ours sleep on the bed with us much to my loss of blankets..
  18. My youngest dog still has a little of 'excess' skin on her.. and she is 10 months so i would not worry about it.. when we got her at 13 weeks it was like the skin and the dog were two separate entities at times..
  19. It is a stage, they do grow out of it.. but watch it and make sure you have an established pack order ie: you then the dogs so you can step in.. My older girl just caused massive damage to my 10 month old in a bitch fight.. and adult teeth do far more damage than baby teeth.. Just watch it..
  20. My girls are fine with the quails in the quail run.. well PC finds them very very interesting but not fatalities so far.. Other birds are another issue.. Lola hates the Heron that comes in to empty the fish ponds.. has nearly killed it a few times.. Down the park they chase the Ibis, plovers, crested pidgeons like there is no tommorrow.. but with a Kelpie cross and a StaffyxGreyxPointer what can you expect.. Lola actually holds back from the chase until commanded to 'go to'.. I guess you could always make it a training game, like we have with Lola, she has her 'go to' command and her 'come back' and for her it works a treat great for recall.. And she has good restraint without the command.. PC on the other hand, sights and Points and then off she goes.. Good Luck with it..
  21. He might be one of those vets we hear about every now and then who sell puppies and crosses.. a couple of litters would be a nice earner for him. GET A NEW VET !!!! I cant believe that he said this, seriously.. our vet is proactive to the point of discussing it at every vaccination and check up until they are booked in and done from 12 weeks onwards. No excuse for undesexed companion animals..
  22. She is eating and drinking, lethargy goes with sedation.. no fever.. just lots of singing to come out of the baby gate caged bathroom.. Fighting spirit.. after yesterday I dont want her fighting anything Yep, just checking..
  23. OK Just thought I would ask.. as some of you know PC was in a bitchfight yesterday and now has three drains in her leg..(pics are posted in general) We have bathed the leg with Saline twice today There is no discharge, heat or tenderness in the area. Any bloody discharge dissapated over night. She is sedated and on antibiotics and has a bucket on, is confined to the bathroom and is only having water and soft food.. has yet to poo from yesterday.. Am allowing her a 20 minute wander around the house every 3 hours or so.. trying hard not to let her jump.. Anything that I need to look out for?? She dosent seem to be in pain, but she is off the planet on sedatives and who knows with staffy's when they are in pain anyway.. Any advice??
  24. 20 weeks is coming into teenage behaviour too.. Id do what has been suggested and ascert your position in the pack not the lovey dovey mummy but Alpha dog and pack leader.. A dog should never ever growl at you unless in pain.. My dogs know the difference between cutie talk and mums in charge talk.. its all in the tone.. I only have to drop my tone and inclination two octaves and they know its not on.. As cute as dogs are it must be remembered that they are dogs.. and you are in charge.. otherwise there will be trouble further down the track..
