  1. the Holy Island is in the UK off the coast of Northumberland. South of the Scottish border but north of Newcastle. you can only get across at low tide. there are some great photo spots like an old church surrounded by ruins and wetherd gravestones, a boat graveyard, lots of little cottages and of course the most awesome little castle. would love to go back. at the time i had only had my camera all of two weeks and was still figuring it out... only took a few pics there is a flickr group with some pics here http://www.flickr.com/groups/holy_island/pool/
  2. this is off the orig topic but it may help StaffordLove quote from DP Review . this rules out some lenses from auto focusing on the d40 range. here is a list of compatible lenses i saw on a dp review forum. as you can see there is still heaps of choice for the D40 user.Nikon AF-S lenses: 12-24/4 DX 17-55/2.8 DX 18-55/3.5-5.6 DX I 18-55/3.5-5.6 DX II 18-70 DX 18-135 DX 18-200 DX VR 55-200 DX 17-35/2.8 AF-S 24-85/3.5-4.5 AF-S 24-120 AF-S VR 28-70/2.8 70-200/2.8 VR 70-300 VR 105/2.8 VR 200/2 VR 200-400/4 VR 300/2.8 VR 300/4 AF-S 400/2.8 AF-S 500/4 AF-S 600/4 AF-S Sigma HSM lenses: 10-20mm F4-5.6 EX DC 12-24mm F4.5-5.6 17-35mm F2.8-4 DG 50-500mm F4-6.3 DG 50-150mm F2.8 EX DC HSM 70-200mm F2.8 DG MACRO 80-400mm F4.5-5.6 100-300mm F4 DG 120-300mm F2.8 DG 300-800mm F5.6 DG 14mm F2.8 EX 30mm F1.4 EX DC HSM 150mm F2.8 EX DG 180mm F3.5 EX DG 300mm EX DG 500mm EX DG 800mm f5.6 EX DG
  3. my wife got this one printed onto canvas for me for my birthday last year.
  4. bit off topic but we were happy both times we used these guys for canvas printing. they are in melb but they shipped to Syd and Bris no probs. colour was great too.
  5. top gear is fantastic it is so funny and beautiful to look at that my wife actually sits and watches it with me not tg aus though... that is like a car wreck.... unfortunately here is a flickr group for people who take three or more exposures of cars and create a High dynamic range image by merging the three exposures in PS or other software. 99.9% of them are way way over done. but when someone gets it right it really can make the cars look great.
  6. NO No experience But i am a top gear freak i watch a re run nightly and am currently on my 5th time through the whole thing they do some gorgeous cinematography. they seem to use a lot of graduating filters, and they do a lot of the filming when the sun is low in the sky. Also a lot of their most impressive stuff is in the wet or overcast (this may just be a coincidence being english and all ;) ) i also like how they sometimes use really wide angles and get distorted horizons etc. It really is shot quite beautifully. good luck, sounds like a lot of fun! here is some screen grabs from the last couple of top gears that i think are super cool ;) hope they help they do a lot of this focus on forground stuff.
  7. true but this is different, the below quote is taken from a deviant art website article. this is the bit that gets me the most. it has given people a domain to butcher peoples art and photos and then showcase it as their own. it shows a blatant disregard for copyright and intellectual property
  8. you can search for your images on the site by sing the search function. Adding a favorite in flickr is not a copyright infringement as you are fully credited and your work is not altered/moved in any way. these people are taking your hard work and using it in their own creations without crediting the artists or requesting rights.
  9. there is a website out there called polyvore it has the ability to take images from your flickr library and allow others to access them and create montages/collages with them, it is creating a bit of a stir on flickr and a petition has begun to get the site shut down. I have had a bit of a search on the site for photos that have been used of mine and of some of my flickr friends. none of mine have been used but below is a link to one of vickie's that has been used. http://www.polyvore.com/opet/set?id=4471471 if you want to check to see if any of your flickr images have been accessed by users of this site you can do so by going to http://www.polyvore.com and in the search on the top right change from sets to items and type in your flickr name. if you feel strongly about this and want to sighn the petition you can find it here Polyvore has commented on this situation on their blog and there is a link to a form to have your property removed from their site
  10. I love this thread, well done everybody!
  11. does anyone know a good online seller of B&W filters in Aus? I want to get a good quality UV filter for my zoom and a good quality polariser for my wide lens
  12. Luke, Just want to add my support. I enjoy your photography knowledge. and i appreciated your integrity to your beliefs in the "general" threads. This is a big forum. and there is plenty of room to stay away from certain areas. for example i go nowhere near off topic way too much period and manapause talk for me in there... scares the crap out of me
  13. yes i do and i need help before they go stale. we are going to mac centre for a movie this arvo ill drop a couple off about 5ish ok with u?
  14. we did passionfruit cupcakes for our corporate Xmas pressies this year. I took this shot before they all went off. this was on the dining table with the light coming through the window. for stuff like this it is a great little lens.
