In my breed that's completely normal. They don't come in season under 14mths old and I have plenty of girls that only come in once a year while others are around 8mths. Other lines in the same breed start at 9mths and then regularly 6mths after. Speak to your breeder and get to know what is normal for their dogs. The only one I've ever taken to a repro vet didn't come in till she was 5yrs old She was mated and whelped a normal litter. The vet could only tell me to just wait and see as there was nothing they could do about it.
ETA greyhound people will tell you to find a good muscle man as there is supposedly a back manipulation that will help them come in season. I've never tried it so cant say if it is successful or not

very cool, I wish they'd ask for whippets and/or Iggies.
I have done the odd ad with my IGs and greys. The IGs are not requested very often though
-
Surely both the above are a move in the right direction albeit much overdue.
I do not see our own Canine Councils implementing kennel inspections and core competencies before handing out licences
-
Move towards all people that care for
greyhounds at any stage of the lifecycle
(until retirement) being registered with
peak bodies;
Introduce a tiered system of trainer
licence types which stipulate how many
greyhounds trainers are able to train;
and
Ongoing licensing by peak bodies to be
subject to inspection and compliance with
maintenance of facility standards.
Inspection & compliance
All facilities at which greyhounds are
housed with licensed people, throughout
their lifecycle, to be subject to regular
inspection;
and
All new facilities/kennels to be compliant
with relevant codes of practice
-
People/Participants
National approach to education
Develop formal education modules on
relevant topics for delivery to all
participants, including the option of
progressing to the completion of a formal
qualification of Certificate 2 in Racing
(Greyhounds) through the national
Vocational and Education framework;
Development of Fact Sheets covering all
aspects of the industry to support
education material;
and
All new participants to be assessed on
core competencies before obtaining the
relevant licence.

Shantiah, thanks for posting the full link.
Lovely to catch up with you the other day at the show. Paige and Pickles looked great but little Rolf is divine.
When can I come get puppy cuddles?
It was great to catch up. Rolf is just too cute for his own good
Come over any time you like.

Havent had a chance to watch this yet (although I have read the transcript) as I was driving back from the races where I had two dog running. It was predictably one sided and as a racing participant I have no right of reply to the allegations aired on the programme.
All I can say is what a croc.
And anyone that believes the media will present a balanced view needs to do a bit more research. Lets remember a certain gardener who told the world oodles were fantastic and the public believed him and jumped on the oodle wagon. Dont believe everything you see and hear
My link makes for some interesting reading about the filming of this segment

Try Seven Hills Pet Foods. Not sure if they do your area but their meat is excellent quality

I have worked for several different vets.
First was some 20 odd years ago. I was paid a straight wage and thye provided everything
Second was 15yrs ago. I owned the business and rented the premises off them. Everything in it was mine but htey provided an after hours drop off/;pick up service
Third is my current job. I am employed as a subcontractor. Vet provides premises, cages, dryers, clippers, blades etc ( although some stuff is my own) He also provided maintenance on all equipment incl sharpening and all utility bills. Pay has changed several times over the past few years. Started off as wage, has also been hourly rate and is currently 50% of all grooms. He sets the price of all services and decided when there will be a rate change, although I have had a fair amount of input into pricing.
It really depends on the vet you are working for / in conjunction with. I have found in general most vets tend to skew things financially in their interest but if you are lucky you will find one you can negotiate with

Shantiah, does it include the potential to break into the boxes ?
Pav I wanted to do box work last week but the other dogs attending were not up to that standard yet and would not have been fit enough to run the full length without issues. Then the weather came in and I wasnt going to play in the rain.
Safety of the dogs is considered foremost and limited to a couple of 100m runs rather than doing the whole length over and over. The people running it have been racing and breaking in greyhounds for over 20yrs and are very experienced. The track is also used by professional greyhound racers and is groomed to perfection to limit the possibility of injuries to the dogs
I would think as the dogs got fitter with weekly runs then box work will be done. Again you would have to contact them directly
-
Oh I wanted to ask... I will be handling 2 dogs, can I just do the instruction once so one lot of $30 and then pay per run?
I think so. Im only cross posting. I dont actually run it so you would have to check with them when you get there
-
Can people attend with a camera instead of a dog? I've always wanted to try to get shots of sighthounds running...
T.
Cant see why not
-
Only sighthounds and sighthound crosses at the moment. Its only the second week so once its well established Im sure it will be other breeds as well.
-
Thats no good Pav Lova. Mind you I've got a couple of broken ones who will be staying home too. You could always come and help me witha couple of crazy Iggies but you better bring Poodie Milan to tame them

Sounds like the dog was a cross of some sort. My show greys are taller than my races, with much longer legs, although perhaps slightly thicker but only in line with size of the dig. They have much finer coats and dont seem to go nearly so fluffy in the winter. And their tails are heaps longer and finer than the racers.
-
Dont know about Vic, but in NSW show greys have to comply with the same rules as race greys. A greyhound is a greyhound, no matter what purpose it was bred for
-
The google pic is overseas but the florist is in Victoria and she is doing something similar. Im in NSW too but you could probably find someone local to you to do one too
Is There A Cheaper Worming Option Than Panacur?

Ivermectin doesn't do tapeworm, or at least that's what my vet told me the other day when I got some.
