    Barking!

well, the other night it was from about midnight till 3am. lol if it was only a couple of minutes i'm sure my neighbours wouldn't have an issue they're very reasonable people.

    Barking!

this is part of my reason of not wanting to use a no bark collar. Given that the issue is when she is unattended and I can't watch her it concerns me that something might happen to her and she wouldn't be able to alert us. Maybe I need to try and convince my husband crate training is the way to go. lol

    Barking!

She is barking to come inside, my husband has already said that he would much prefer she not sleep inside at al, otherwise i'd just let her sleep in the bathroom - (this is what we do on nights where the weather is particularly horrendous). If we were to use an anti-bark collar overnight what sort would be most appropriate? i've seen muzzles, spray ones and shock ones.

    Barking!

I was hoping someone could give me some training tips on some issues im having with our 5 month old Curly-Coated Retriever puppy. She is fine during the day, I take my kids to go outside and we play, she has had basic obedienc training which we've been continuing with. I take her for a 40 minute walk of an evening and then she comes inside until my husband and I go to bed which is when we put her outside - this is when the barking starts! I know she wants to come and sleep inside but my husband really doesn't want to let her sleep indoors. Anyway, its been going on for 2-3 months now and our neighbours are getting really pissed off (understandably so!) and of course its really quite frustrating for us too! I don't like the idea of anti-barking collars and muzzles so I was hoping there would be other options for us! Thanks in advance!
  5. I stand corrected. Looks like The Conversation . . . which published the article . . . is independent academic something-or-other, started through support from Founding Partners: ANU, Monash, Melbourne, UTS, UWA, plus CSIRO. Still looks like the bar has been set low for PhD research. There is no such "bar" that is set regarding a research question. Rather, researchers, Phd candidate or otherwise, usually only have to illustrate a gap in the current literature for their topic to add relevance to the current body of knowledge. Exactly... I mean, my husband is doing his PhD on the lone ranger... seriously!
  6. oh thats so lovely!!! I wanna get one for my puppy now.
  7. I agree, there are lot of crosses, and bullish looking breeds that are identified as pits. It just goes to show how uneducated the general public is. Sure i'm not highly knowledgable on dog breeds but i'm also not naive enough to call every bully looking dog I see a pitbull. Even some pedigree dogs are often mistaken by members of the general public as pitbulls. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com/petbull/findpit.html here is a good example of what people often mistake as pitbulls.
  8. No more crying at night! She sleeps in a play pen, in the ensuite (with door open to our bedroom) so she can see us and that keeps her very happy. She is the best dog.
  9. She is very cuddly. lol Shes such a great dog. My boys love her to bits, but boy can she cry at night!
  10. well, after two nights of non-stop crying. The OH who was dead against having puppy in our bedroom, has said she can be in our bedroom.
  11. All the new arrivals are just beautiful! Wilbur is a character! Thought i'd share some pics of our newest arrival. Harley Quinn, the curly-coated retriever!
  12. and here she is!!! Chillin' at her new house on the couch. :D
  13. Well Harley is home and currently asleep in her crate (with her head hanging out the door.) lol, she threw up once in the car on the way home. i Will take photos when shes awake.
  14. Wilbur and Nelly are beautiful!!! FIVE HOURS!!! Gotta take my human babies to their swimming lessons then we get to drive to our breeders house and pick up Harley Quinn.
  15. i guess some people aren't prepared for the emotional tug of the crying; especially first timer puppy owners. And i guess you can't totally prepare for something you've not experienced previously. Not the best situation for the puppy but hopefully the breeders can convince them that the crying doesn't last forever and there are some strategies that owners can employ to minimise it. I'm prepared for Wilbur's crying so I'm not worried too much; he's not our first pup. If necessary he can sleep with us in our bed if he still makes a big fuss in his crate next to my bed...OH keeps rolling his eyes when i mention this but Wilbur's emotional wellbeing is my priority. I always hated hearing my non fur-babies cry...can't send them back to the breeder though lol you sound like me though my OH has already pretty much said 'no dog in the bedroom' lol, I think hes worried we'll end up sharing our bed with the dog as well as our non-fur babies.
  16. Why does she want you to keep him entire? That seems really irresponsible of the breeder if your only planning on keeping him for a pet. Coupled with the fact he is your first dog I find that really quite odd. Hope you find a suitable puppy soon :D
  17. two sleeps for me. I don't have the issue of introducing to other dogs as we currently dont have a dog. I like the name Ruby and Ascha.
  18. aw 3 weeks will be here in no time at all! Yea, im wondering how toileting at night is going to work logistically around here. I'm still breastfeeding my 15 month old son throughout the night. I'll have three toddlers (inc puppy) in the house come Saturday!
  19. oh the bassett puppy is adorable!!! THREE MORE SLEEPS.
  20. Awww she looks so beautiful and cuddly! :D 5 more days for me.
  21. I like pup two as well! Goodluck deciding can't wait to see more pics!
  22. We're getting Harley Quinn next week too :D Saturday 13th! And she will be *almost* nine weeks.
